  1. 0:01Mafi: I'm glad you're here, Luke

Hey there Cadre. How are we doing today? I hope you are doing swell if you're like me. It is already a long day. But as we get ready to jump in, Mafi, I want you to remember, speak, wonder that I am glad I'm here.

On Thursdays we often talk about things like grief and loss, but I'm also going to throw in the idea of remembrance. If you don't know where you are and where you're going, stop, stand still, and honor that.

Hey there Cadre. How are we doing today? I hope you are doing swell if you're like me. Peace and joy. It is already a long day. Do you ever have those days where you have to start earlier than what seems normal for you? Well, that's one of those days for me. But as we get ready to jump in, Mafi, I want you to remember, speak, wonder that I am glad I'm here. Amar. I'm glad you're here, Luke. I know what I know and I care about you. On Thursdays we often talk about things like grief and loss, but I'm also going to throw in the idea of remembrance.

Grief and loss often bring us into the perspective of what has been and maybe its relationship as to how things will be. But out of the maybe the normative of grieving or losing people or chapters of life. Today I want to talk about the grief. Maybe it's not even grief, but the loss of remembering where you are and what's going on. Quite often on Thursdays, I spend time drinking some decaf with Luke, the founder of Cadre, around 7am but today I had to be at one of my offices at 5 to get some stuff ready for some events happening today.

Left the office about half an hour ago, changed, and now I'm getting ready to go ahead and move to work through all the chronic ickiness that I deal with every day that if I don't move, my body says we're close for business. And I tell you I parked in the parking lot and I don't remember where I am or what's going on. I'm like, where am I? Why am I here? What day is it? Have you ever experienced that before? This loss of remembrance, of where you are, why you're doing what's going on? You know, I was chatting with another Cadre contributor last night and they shared a similar story where they were doing some work in the evening and they're attempting to read some documents and put some things in place.

And they're like, it doesn't make any sense. And they actually emailed one of their colleagues saying, hey, the stuff you sent over doesn't make any sense. Are you changing it? It feels like the words keep changing. And the next day they emailed back. It's like, no, I wasn't in the documents, so and so forth. And my friend was like, I think I was having one of those moments where I momentarily lost the grounding of where I am, of where I was, of where I'm going, of why I'm Doing what I'm doing. And I think so often, everybody, we all experience those moments.

You know, we often talk about wanting to be in the flow state or, you know, being, you know, being. Being locked in or zoned in. And all of a sudden, we find ourselves with a little ripple, a little wave that pulls us out of that. That familiar current, and we go, what's going on now? So often I like to offer a tactical and a practical like. And, hey, when you're experiencing something like this, here's something to do. And I don't think this is a really great tactical or practical today. But I'll offer you this.

When I left my office and I walked out into the parking lot, I stood there, I stood still and I tried to remember, when did I get here? Did I drive here? Why don't I remember waking up and it took me a little while to realize a. Where I was and what I was doing. And then it took me a little while longer to find my car. But that's a really important step of the process. If you don't know where you are and where you're going, if you don't know what to do, stop, stand still, be where you are with what you have, and honor that.

That's my definition of mindfulness or meditation. I use it all the time. Being where you are with what you have and honoring that or making the most of that. Because I'll tell you, I still feel kind of. And it feels really good to see all y' all coming into the Cadre sphere this morning. Jules, Mel, who else did I miss? Andi, Mac, nice to see y'. All. It's like, ah, something familiar, something that can be the cobblestone on the road that leads me back to finding my car, leads me back to the next step of the day, leads me back to the light and the heavy things that I get to carry.

So when you find yourself today, if you do going, where am I and how did I get here? And you've lost the remembrance, and it maybe feels scary or kind of out of body. Give yourself that moment to be where you are with what you have, and then sooner or later, get back to work, y'. All. I will see you the next time I see you. Have a good one.
