Breathing Technique for Flight Trauma Response

FHFaith Hunter

Overthinking? Restless? Feeling like you just need to do something? That’s flight mode kicking in. When your nervous system is wired and scattered, this breath will bring you back home to yourself. ✨ Inhale deeply while counting 1-2-3-4-5 in your mind. ✨ Exhale slowly, counting 1-2-3-4-5-6-7. ✨ Keep breathing, allowing the exhale to get longer. Extending the exhale tells your body to soften, to stop running, to just be. You don’t have to chase peace—you just have to breathe into it.

Faith is bringing you a breathing technique to address flight trauma response. This is called the grounding breath with counting. With each breath, feel yourself coming back to the present moment. Inhale slowly, exhale softly and allow yourself to be.

Hey there, beautiful one. This is Faith and I am bringing you a breathing technique to address flight trauma response. That's that sense of anxiousness feeling fear creeping up and bubbling to the top. Or maybe you're overworking. That means you need to pause and ground. This is called the grounding breath with counting. Especially in those moments when life is going too fast, we have to slow down and breathe. I always like to place one hand over my belly, one hand over my heart, and I'm breathing deeply in through my nose, counting anywhere from five to seven counts and then I exhale slowly for maybe seven to eight counts.

Now as I do this, I am observing and noticing the rhythm of my heartbeat, feeling the belly and chest expand as I breathe in and breathe out. But I want you to know it is all about being present in the moment. And with each breath, feel yourself coming back to the present moment. This is your time, your moment to pause, to breathe and to reset. Inhale slowly, exhale softly and allow yourself to be.
