Chapters

  1. 0:01Greeting and intention

The host greets the audience, notes the odd timing, and establishes a supportive tone by saying they know things and care about the viewer. This short intro sets the mood for the reflection to follow.

  2. 0:36Need a Minute project

The speaker describes their Instagram channel 'Need A Minute, Take A Minute' and the practice of filming 60-second clips in public places. This explains the context for the anecdote that follows.

  3. 1:13Time and place reflections

Using a titled clip about being 15 hours 'in the future,' the host explores how places and times can feel both familiar and strange. They observe that being somewhere physically doesn't fully determine how connected or new it feels.

  4. 2:17Permission and self-compassion

The speaker offers a gentle recommendation: when you feel far from what’s normal, allow yourself permission to break expectations and be kinder to yourself. This is presented as the main offering of the video.

  5. 2:48Sign-off and farewell

The host wraps up with a casual goodbye and an acknowledgement of time's relativity. This short ending reiterates the relaxed, nonjudgmental tone.

Hey there, cadre. Happy whatever day it is. m. in Sydney, Australia where I am, which then I think it means it's midnight in Minnesota where I normally am. But whatever day this is, I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. know, I shared, I have an Instagram channel called Need A Minute, Take A Minute. And what I end up doing is I videotape minutes, 60 seconds of time somewhere. And normally I do it when I'm somewhere around this planet that we live on and I'm a stranger in a land.

Normally in a public space and I'm standing next to a fountain or in a park or sitting on a train and I video a minute and then I ask the question, do you need a minute? And I answer it by saying, cool, take a minute. So I was on the train and I recorded a minute. When I shared it to the Instagram channel, I titled it, you know, I find myself 15 hours in the future, but I feel like I've been here before. And that's how it feels sometimes, right? It feels that where we are doesn't answer the whole question of where are we.

You can be somewhere you've been and feel like you've never been there before. Or you can be in the middle of a new world and feel incredibly comfortable. I tell you, I've never been on on this continent before. And yes, even though Sydney, Australia is a very westernized and a very standardized city set up for people to be able to come from wherever and to do the things they do and the way they do the things, it's still far away from what is normal for me. And so I invite you today. Whenever you feel like you're far away from whatever is normal to you, give yourself some grace.

Give yourself the permission to break the rules of what should be normal or what should feel good or what should feel hard because I'm coming to you from the future and yet I feel like I'm where I normally am. That's, I think, the offering for today. All right. I'll see you whenever I see you, whatever day, whatever time that is. Bye.
