The host pauses after a musical intro, greets viewers, and briefly explains the Cadre Today segment and its regular cadence.
JC reflects on nearly three years of daily segments and explains the recurring 17-word phrase he often uses to open: 'I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you.' He notes his tendency to speak a lot as part of his role.
JC proposes treating the opening phrases or a song's intro as the whole message, asking how expectations and nourishment would shift if appetizers or intros were regarded as the meal itself.
JC tells viewers their words are 'verbal hugs' and reminds them they're enough, mentions the song 'Gift of Life' by We Banjo 3, and ends with a lighthearted suggestion to enjoy mozzarella sticks.
And I'm gonna pause right there. I'm gonna pause before we even get to the words of a song today. Because it was beautiful. The music was beautiful. It didn't say anything, like in the way that we use words to say things. But there's something about the beginning of a song before we get to saying something that is beautiful. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. What if that was enough? My name is JC. If you've never been here before, I am here every single day for this Cadre Today segment for Almost, actually, we're right at that three-year mark that we've been doing this thing regularly.
Pretty cool. And there's been chapters where I say different things at the beginning, but for quite a while I've said those 17 words. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. And then I say other things because I talk A lot. That's kind of what I do for a living. I talk. I listen. I reflect. I say things back to people that I heard them say. That's what I do. But, what if, Speak Wonder, the whole cadre today was, I'm glad I'm here, I'm glad you're here, I know the things I know, and I care about you.
What if the whole cadre today was that little musical introduction to a song that I didn't even tell you what the name was? What if that was enough? How would that shift what we expect to receive or what we expect to be nourished by? What if the appetizer at the meal was the meal? Now I love a good appetizer. I'm the person who I will go to the restaurant and I will get the appetizer sampler and they're like, oh, do you want anything else? I go, nope, I do not. Because appetizers are designed to be tasty.
So if I can have a plate of tasty and I don't have to have the other stuff, yeah, I'm all about it. Some people are like, oh, can I have dessert first? I'm like, no, give me the appetizer sampler with a side of appetizer samplers. Because there's something that is enough and nourishing about the thing that precedes the thing that you think is supposed to be the thing. So today, Speak Wonder, your words are verbal hugs in a needy world. And they're enough. So I will play that introduction to the song again.
And I'll tell you that the song is called Gift of Life by We Banjo 3 if you want to listen to the rest of it. But the introduction's enough. And so are you. Go have some mozzarella sticks today.
