Here comes the weekend! JC will offer one way to weave self love & kindness into your life.
Cadre JC invites you to think about the idea that rest is not a passive act. Quite often, we need an activity that is restful, that is peaceful. Rather than the absence of work, what about the culture of rest? Stillness is a fallacy.
Well, hey there, Cadre JC here. Happy Friday. m. m. On a Friday for you, too. So this is our wellness routine livestream. m. As the week wraps up, I jump in to the Cadre sphere here to offer you some ways to build a little bit of wellness into your routine right now, if you're going like, wow, where are you? What's the sound in the background? Well, I'm at my gym. There's people out there on stair steppers, people lifting weights, people boxing, people doing whatever it is that they're doing, for whatever reasons they're choosing to do it.
I'm in a half pigeon right now on a yoga mat, which may be the first time I've ever live streamed in half pigeon before. But it set me up as I thought about today's topic to go. How can I practice what I'm sharing as an opportunity for you today? So I had to be in a posture like this today. I want to invite you to think about the idea that rest is not a passive act. In other words, rest is not the absence of work. So this morning, I was up nice and early to catch a flight to say goodbye to my parents down in Orlando, so then I could get back up to Minneapolis.
I worked for a few hours, and then before I got to the gym, I ran to the post office. The bank picked up a prescription for my anxiety medication at Target. I filled up my gas tank, and I have rehearsal in about 60 minutes. But I knew I needed something to rest. Let me switch sides. I needed something to allow me a little bit of rest time culturally. Often, if you have a day like I'm having, rest would be the I'm gonna sit and I'm gonna idle, and I'm gonna ruminate for those few minutes that I have before I have to do the next thing.
Sometimes sitting is a really, really great way to actively choose to rest. But what I mean is those times when we passively go, all right, I have a few minutes, so I'm gonna do nothing because we equate doing nothing to rest. I'll tell ya, we could sit idly and allow life to pass us by, but the mind keeps racing and the heart keeps pattering, and we don't actually rest. Christine says, I just woke up from a nice rest in peace and quiet with my eyes closed. Yes, right Chris, that was a. Was what?
Was that a choice? Was it a. Hey, I'm gonna take some time now to rest in peace and quiet. Hey, Cadre. Nice to see you. But I want you to think about that. How often do you go, I need to rest. So you simply stop doing the work, and your brain goes, okay, well, now I'm supposed to be resting. Cause I'm not working. Quite often, we need a catalyst. Quite often, we need an activity that is restful, that is peaceful. Like right now, even though I am speaking with you, I am in a state where my body's going to.
So perhaps your opportunity, as you look at maybe a long weekend. I know a lot of employers give off this coming Monday, so perhaps you have a three day weekend. Maybe it's the end of your fiscal year, or maybe it's the end of kind of the way that you set up your personal year. Right? Maybe we're looking at resolution season coming up this time when we're supposed to go, here are the things that I'm gonna do, and maybe that gets overwhelming. So maybe in the midst of the overwhelmingness, you stop and you sit and you idle and you think, and your heart beats fast and you go, okay, just rest.
Just rest. Just rest. My invitation for you tonight is to choose things that are restful, to choose things that bring you peace, and do that when you need rest. Cause even though right now, my muscles are stretching. Hey, speak. Wonder. Nice to see you, my friend. Right. Even though right now I'm in a state of work, here's a little secret that no one wants to tell you. Stillness is a fallacy. Stillness is a lie. So if you ever someone say, all you need to do is be still for a little bit. If your heart is beating, if your mind is racing, if your breath is rising and falling, you are never still.
Stillness is a state of mind, and stillness is found through us, finding action that allows us to go. Ha. Rather than grind culture, what about grind culture? Matched with kind culture? Rather than rest being the absence of work, what if there is work to work? And what if there's work to rest? Some thoughts for all of you today, Luke and Chris. And speak. Wonderful. Exactly. Luke. I never knew how to spell it, but I think you just got it. I'm gonna get back to my stretching, my active resting Joe.
But, Joey, I didn't know you were here, too. Nice to see you, my friend. Keep reminding each other of the things that make us whole, that make us. Well, that pull us into this very special group of people with a special intention. That's you, Cadre. We'll see you soon. Bye.
