Chapters

  1. 0:29Welcome and check-in

JC opens the video with a friendly introduction, expressing care and wishing viewers well. He sets a calm tone with breathing encouragement and normalizes whatever someone may be feeling today.

  2. 1:29Introducing the word sorry

The host references Justin Bieber's song 'Sorry' as a way to begin thinking about the word and its meaning. He notes that he enjoys the song and uses it to segue into the topic of apologies.

  3. 1:45Why apologies backfire

JC describes a common habit of over-apologizing and argues it isn't always necessary, especially for minor things. He explains that apologizing often shifts energy toward the person saying sorry, which can prevent the person who was hurt from focusing on their own needs.

  4. 3:26Reflection and invitation

The video closes with an invitation to examine one's own use of 'sorry' and consider alternative ways of being that don't make oneself small. JC encourages reflection, wishes viewers well, and signs off.

Zip it ahead. when you search for the song title Sorry, there's not a lot of great songs that come up. Let's talk about why. My name is JC. If we've never shared time and space together before, thank you for the opportunity to spend some time with you right now. It truly is a gift to spend some time with you. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. And I hope that this Saturday is a bright one for you. Whether it's a weekend for you, whether it's more work for you, whether Saturdays or Monday or Mondays or Saturday, we hope that you're doing all right.

If you're not, here's your daily reminder that is A-OK as well. You're probably still going to accomplish something pretty remarkable today. So breathe in, breathe out, do what you got to do, and have a good one. Just talk about that word sorry. So it was Justin Bieber, sorry. Is it too late to say that I'm sorry? I like that line. Not necessarily the words, but I like the song. It's a good bop. It's a good bop. I, one of the ways that I annoy people, but I strategically say, okay, if this is annoying, it's worth it to me.

I can't not invite people whenever they say sorry. to let them know that it wasn't necessary for them to apologize. And then I say, hey, unless you're like pinching someone or punching someone or poking someone with the intent of hurting them and other things of the sort, like unless you're intending to do something that's bad, saying sorry isn't necessary. Not just, not because, two things. Number one, You didn't do anything to be sorry for. But #2, here's the deal. Whenever we say I am sorry, your intent is to make the person you're saying sorry to feel okay, to be having what they need to feel enough and nourished and safe and loved and seen and all those things.

But here's the deal. The second you say sorry, where does all the energy in the room go to? It goes to you. Because now everybody's going like, my gosh, they're feeling sorry. I want to help them. So the person that you hurt, if you actually hurt somebody, all of a sudden, rather than focusing on themselves, which is what you want to do, now they're focusing on you. So I annoyingly tell people all the time that they don't need to say sorry with the intent of doing what we're doing right here in cadre.

And that is inviting people to do little things often and consider that maybe there's a different way to exist than the loud, voice of the world saying, well, you need to make yourself feel small. You need to make yourself feel wrapped away so that no one can get you. Something to think about today. My invitation for you is to consider the times that you say sorry and go, should I actually be sorry? Should I actually be feeling sorry right now? Have a good night, everybody. We'll see you tomorrow.
