when the sun gets down and burns a tar up on the roof and your feet get so hot you wish your tired feet were fireproof under the boardwalk down by the sea On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be. And we'll hit the pause as we go under the boardwalk. Drifters. Such a great song for this summery, summery time of year. I hope you can find some place to find some shade, to find some pause, to find some calm amidst all the things that you have going on in your day. And if you can't, hang in there.
I hope you're doing good, but if you're not, you daily remind that you are still incredibly capable, still incredibly worthy, and probably still going to accomplish some pretty remarkable things today, cadre friends. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. And I know that you do your best to share that energy with those people around you. Be anxious for nothing. It's a line. It's a little bit of scripture, but it is a line from a musical called Come From Away, a musical about the 38 planes that got grounded in Gander, Newfoundland on September 11th, 2001.
I'm currently music directing the show and our director yesterday shared something A lot of people look at Come From Away as a September 11th musical. A musical about this horrific, traumatic day. And the director said, if anyone asks you about the show, don't tell them it's a September 11th musical. Tell them it's a September 12th musical. Because musicals about how people responded to this horrific, traumatic day. The story is 38 planes got grounded in this town of 9,000 people. called Gander, Newfoundland in Canada, because they needed to A, get the planes out of the air and B, they needed places where the planes could be grounded.
And Gander had this old airport that's like, get everybody down in Gander. So all of a sudden these 9,000 people who lived there took care of the 7,000 people who got grounded there. And it's the stories of those days. Be anxious for nothing. There's a story, all the stories in this musical are true, based on real events, real people. And there was this moment where the people were being taken from the planes to places where they could sleep and eat and all those things. But a lot of people had no idea what was going on and they didn't speak the same language.
So all of a sudden there's this bus full of people who didn't speak English. And the person who's trying to get them off the bus noticed that one of the people was holding onto a Bible. And he was a person who was familiar with the Bible. So he's like, I'm going to try to find something that even though I can't understand the words in the language it's written in, I can understand the numbers. So I could find something that I know in English, and even though I can't read it, I know that says something that they can read.
6, he's like, this is it. And the passage, the verse is, be anxious for nothing. And the people on the bus looked at it and they're like, okay, we get it. They're not here to hurt us. They're here to help us. And then all of a sudden there's this line and that's how I began speaking the same language. And the musical goes on. It's really a beautiful story. Be anxious for nothing. My invitation for you today is to take that same pathway. Find the things that remind you that you are living in a world that is ever-changing.
We don't know what's going to happen next. There's reasons to feel all the anxiety and to stop and shut down. And yet, the work you do, the things you care about, the passions you're called to, it's what's guiding you to the next step. So take a deep breath, everybody. and be anxious for nothing. I'll see you tomorrow.
