Miss Shannon opens the stream with a warm Saturday greeting, describes her work as a comedian and speaker, and sets a relaxed tone by acknowledging she's at home and casually imperfect (like having a stained shirt).
She apologizes for missing the Thursday livestream and walks through a busy week that included caring for her child, launching projects, and preparing for Convergence, a long-running sci‑fi/comedy festival that compressed her schedule. She notes reminders existed but the day slipped past.
She explores the recurring habit of overlapping commitments and the value of intentionally creating space to be fully present. She emphasizes moving from guilt to practical steps for reducing mistakes and giving herself grace when things are missed.
Shannon describes her plan for the day—preparing for the session, tackling a reasonable to‑do list, then attending the convention later in a focused burst so she can be fully present for each activity.
She offers safety and sensitivity reminders about July 4th fireworks and triggers, invites the community to share resources, makes a light closing remark about tea and laundry, thanks viewers, and signs off with encouragement to be kind to themselves.
Good morning and happy Saturday to all of you. I do believe that it is Saturday, at least in my portion of the cadre sphere. I am Miss Shannon, by trade a variety of word related things like a comedian and a corporate speaker and a voice actor and event emcee and a benefit auctioneer. A variety of things where I'm very happy that we get to use language to try and make connects. Hello Yaziel, good to see you in the chat. Hope that Saturday is treating you well. I was just saying that I'm Miss Shannon and I am very happy that you are here in the cadre sphere.
I usually share content from the perspective of a proud parent who has an adorable 18 year old kid who happens to be on the high supports autism side of things. And I don't know, does that mean, look at what I did to my shirt, Yazio. Starting the day off perfectly imperfect as we all are. We'll see. I'll keep that on for a while. All of my things that I'm doing for the time being will be encapsulated in my home. So I think it's okay that I have a stain on my shirt. So I'll fix it later. So thanks for joining me for this edition of Comedy Through the Chaos.
I will start with an apology to you, everybody here in the cadre sphere. Here's how my week went. My week has been abundant as far as having a variety of things that I wanted to accomplish throughout the week. And that includes keeping my kiddo busy while he's on summer break, It also includes launching a couple of career slash work related projects this week. And there's also in the city that I live in, the city, I mean the state of Minnesota, there is currently an event going on called Convergence.
And Convergence is a large fan driven sci-fi and comedy festival. And the nerd in me has great joy in this community. It's something I've been going to basically for almost 20 years. And the interesting thing is that it does make for a very busy weekend, including Thursday. And I think this is an interesting phenomena that happens where time shrinks and then flashes forward and expands. And you're like, where did the time go? And so I had on my, I normally do this live stream on Thursdays and on Saturdays.
So I had on my calendar in my personal schedule that I was going to do my live stream on Thursday. And I knew that was going to come up right against a tech rehearsal that I needed to do for Convergence. But I thought that actually be very interesting. Like my friend Speak Wonder got to go and talk about how she did her live stream while she was in Manhattan. And I'm like, yeah, it'll be no big deal. I double things up all the time. So that was what I went into this week anticipating was going to happen.
And what's funny is that yesterday, which we know was Friday, we sat there yesterday, I'm sitting and I'm getting ready. And I was specifically preparing to do a 2pm live stream because somehow Thursday got so compressed that I honestly forgot that it was Friday. And so I'm like preparing, had all my notes, all this stuff was ready to go. And then it turned out, I'm like, I'm like, sis, It's Friday, you missed it. Oh my gosh. And of course, I look back through my notifications. It was there, were reminders, but I was so in the particular moment on Thursday that it completely passed by.
And the good thing is that I can apologize and show and know that I'll be shown grace from the Cadre community. The good thing is that I know how to show myself grace for missing things. and doing that. But the lesson that I like to take from this, along with the fact that a good apology is a quality apology, but the lesson is how much we have a tendency to try and overlap. And this is a recurring theme in my life of, oh yeah, I can do all the things instead of going, but would it be better to prepare space around individual things so that you can be fully present in what it is.
And that is a lesson that I am continually reminding myself about. It is okay to allow space to be fully present. I don't have to continually be multitasking even though I do have the ability to multitask fairly well. It still is not optimum. it's still, if there are certain times and certain activities and certain conversations that I can have that allow me to be fully present, I know that there's benefit in that. And it's one of those things just like, I don't know, eating your leafy greens, that is not always the most exciting thing of your life.
It's more exciting to be able to go and look, I did all of the things simultaneously, but I've learned in my life that it just isn't sustainable. So Back to the, sorry that I missed everybody on Thursday. Back to the hopefully learning the lesson that I keep falling into of allowing yourself space to be present in what you're doing. Because I do always remind myself too and I am proud of the transition out of guilt where I would have normally in the past rested in the guilt of you messed up. and been a lot harder on myself for longer instead of going, I'm going to acknowledge this mistake and then see what I can do to make sure that one, it happens less.
Two, it happens, it doesn't happen in situations that are less forgiving because there are some things that if I did forget about them, they would be a bigger problem. then if I miss one of my live streams, as important as everyone in the cadre sphere is to me. I know that it's a space that is made and bundled around us all being perfectly imperfect. So that's the second thing is remembering that I'm like, well, I want to make sure I don't do this in these other spaces where I would not have that grace and that latitude.
And also just reminding myself that it's like, well, what feels better to you? And so it's going, you know what, make a decision so that you do have the space and the time to really enjoy everything that you have. So today looks more like that. This morning I got to fully prepare to come and hang out for our session, which I feel good about. I have a few things that I will work on throughout the day, a very reasonable to-do slash list that will lead to my ta-da list at the end of the evening. And then I will be at the convention again this afternoon for a very burst type style of activities so that I can be fully present in that particular moment.
And so that is my goal. So if you are in a position where you plan to celebrate anything to do with July 4th, please be safe. I hope that everything turns out in your favor. I know that this can also be a very complex time for a lot of people. So if you are in a place where you're worried that your neighbors are going to be sending off fireworks or those things are either triggering to you or your animals, I hope that you are able to find peace and respite in this day. And I do always want to remind people that we do appreciate you sharing information here in the CATRE sphere so that we can provide resources and contribute content that hopefully some sort of baseline for you to go yeah that's what I needed right then and I'm glad that it was available.
So I'm going to make some tea and then decide if I'm going to address this spot or just put the entire shirt into the wash. that might be the answer. That might be the answer. But thank you for being part of our cadre sphere. Always make sure that you keep in touch with us. I appreciate being here with you. And I always want to remind you, I hope that the day treats you well. If it doesn't, shame on it, not shame on you. We'll see you back here Thursday if I don't forget. So
