Hi, everybody. Good morning. I was a little too close to you. That looked a little intense. Hi, I'm Miss Shannon. Happy Saturday. If you end up joining me on a Saturday, if you join me somewhere in the future, happy what day it is to you. I feel like I look a little shiny. So hello, Alana. Good to see you. I'm going to powder a bit because although this is going to be a sit in the house morning, I still feel a little shiny. I don't know how you're feeling. Shiny. Welcome to this Saturday edition of Comedy Through the Chaos.
I am Miss Shannon. I'm a variety of word related things by trade, which include a comedian. a corporate speaker, a voice actor, an event emcee, and a benefit auctioneer. Last night, I was very fortunate to be the benefit auctioneer and event emcee and an event for a wonderful organization in town called Housing First Minnesota Foundation. We were raising funds for some of their primary initiatives where they are developing a number of facilities for our unhoused community here in the Twin Cities, so I was very happy to be able to do that.
but the mom and me because I am also the proud parent of an adorable 18 year old kiddo who happens to be high supports on the autism spectrum that was the part that always makes it difficult because you know yesterday he was just a little off this little off not complexly off not the most off not like we had to cancel all of our stuff off but just a little off you know and so I dropped him off at school little off picked him up from school little off so I was doing best to make sure that he was as regulated as possible when I left to go to this event so that my sister and his caregiver could hang out with him and things went mostly well you know he had a couple little you know a little speed bumps definitely not any roadblocks last night so This morning, you know, we were going to start our regular scheduled routine, which would be me talking to you, making him breakfast, hanging out throughout the day, and then I was gonna get ready for the event that I had this evening.
And instead now, you know, he was gonna have like a appointment with his adaptive personal trainer, but he's in bed kind of thing, and I think I'm gonna leave him there. And this week and last week has been a very good example of why I have to sometimes in my life slow down and do what I call, which is called audibles. Call audibles where, yeah, I had these plans, I had this agenda, but what can I move around to make it more flexible and more appropriate for where we are actually in our life in that particular day?
Alana, I'm so glad I put on that powder. I think I look a little better. So you do what you can in little spurts. So, no, I just texted his personal trainer before because she checks in every week and says, hey, how we looking? kind of thing. And often the answer is, we're looking good, come on over. And then some days it's like today where I'm like, you know, we're feeling a little, a little sedentary, a little off. It's a. an odd weather day here in the Twin Cities. So I'm gonna let him stay over in bed and then hopefully as he wakes up, we'll be able to roll some other things out because I have really learned in my particular parenting journey that I have to think long term.
I know over the next couple of weeks, this is my busy season as far as work goes. So his schedule is not as consistent as it is the rest of the year. So that's already gonna put extra strain on the system. By that, I mean our little personal ecosystem here in the house. And instead, I used to really try to force it to feel as normal, to get done as much as possible. And I've just learned that what works better for us, and things might work different in your family, what works better for us is if I can build up as much the momentum of self-regulation, the momentum of feeling our sense of peace, of having his version of autonomy being able to make some choices in his schedule where he can instead of filling every moment in what I think he should be doing figuring out a way to work that into the way that actually gets an outcome that I want versus the activity being the thing um and so today I think is going to be one of those you know those those Eeyore and Pooh days because I'm usually Pooh and Tigger combined and a little on the peppiest side and he could be a little bit more Eeyore and I'm gonna let Eeyore today and see how things go because I do think that from previous opportunities it's made sense.
to allow things to progress as they need to progress instead of trying to force them to progress at the speed that I want them to. And that's what I'm going to lean into. I was just saying that we're in a little bit of a teen vampire mode today. Thank you for tapping the screen. And I'm going to let him do that because he hasn't done it in a while. I haven't brought that up in a while that he's been like, hey, get up, make a bathroom run, go straight back into his room. So today, if he's doing it, I think there might be some sort of reason behind it.
It may be astrological Maybe there's something going on up in the heavens that I didn't know. Like, I don't think we're at a full mood or anything. But clearly today is the day that he it could be the weather turn here. Yeah, it could be the weather turn that we went from spring related to cold again. That would make sense. So I'm just going to let him be. And that I think, you know, if you've paid attention to the way that our journey has been, that's been a good change for us. Yeah, it is the weather too.
So that's what I'm guessing because I've been able to collect data in our mother son relationship that says, you know, if he's in this kind of mood, there's usually some sort of reason and just because of the way he processes which he can't always completely articulate while he's in this mood but me poking at him and going no you gotta do adaptive training you need to get up and be on the schedule on a Saturday isn't necessarily the best course, especially over the next couple of weeks as I'm doing some busy work-related stuff over the next few weeks.
It's going to be enough of a schedule shift for him that if I could kind of ramp him into it, that's what I choose to do. And so I just always encourage you to kind of look for those opportunities, those moments that seem like we're letting the plan down if we don't press through. And then reminding you that the plan is supposed to serve you. We are not supposed to serve the plan if that makes any sense. And I had to really do that while he's in this mode. Could you get some tests? Absolutely. You know what's funny?
You bring that up. You probably can't see a little bit of my bed. I am a doer by nature. And so what I'm gonna do today is I'm gonna like officially make my bed and do all of this stuff. I bought new sheets recently junk food junkie and I had not switched them out and did all those. exactly what I'm doing, the task that always gets put to the bottom of the list and gets rolled over. I've been saying I was going to do this for a week and hadn't. So I am going to do that. I'm going to rearrange some stuff here, some very completionist, satisfying things, very low pressure, low stress.
Thank you. So very, hey, I would like it if this happened. You know, that's when I consider my ketchup on laundry day where I get to fold it when it's nice and warm out of the dryer. So that's how today I'll go and I'll do my work event this evening and we'll just let him chill and see how it goes. And I always appreciate being able to check in with all of y'all as my accountability partners when his type A mom is good at going. We need to be a little less type A today. Today needs to be a little let's follow his routine versus what my routine would be.
And that's the plan. This Thursday, I do plan to join you. I'm gonna have to do some scheduling math and see how it goes because if all things work out, then my, you are so true. Once you check off these tasks, your hot tea will taste better and be more enjoyable. You are always correct when that comes, when it comes to things like that, junk food junkie, I agree with you. I'm gonna start the kettle, do some things, just knock them off. I got my music playing in the background. And real talk, it's good for me to have days like that too.
And I of course am not the kind of person who will schedule my chill days and go, today needs to be just a chill ketchup day. It usually happens like this where some things need to move and then I am blessed with unscheduled time. So I'm going to look forward to that today because I don't really have to kick in and really get anything done until like none of the have to's kick in until this afternoon around four o'clock, you know, when I'm getting ready to go to this event. I'm gonna have a peaceful day.
No wood chips today because it's gonna be cold, I think. So I did move a few last week, so I don't plan on moving any wood chips today unless the weather becomes less blustery and damp, which I didn't check the forecast. I don't think it's gonna be the case. I think it's gonna be a little gross today. So indoor projects, it is. And so we'll get back to wood chips next week. But find something this week. If you do get the opportunity to have that unplanned, unscheduled time, cherish it. Enjoy it.
Use it to refuel and reset yourself because the universe doesn't always allow the time that we need to be able to do those things. So if it blesses you with a cancellation that you didn't think was coming, Take it. So I'm gonna go start the kettle junk food junkie and then I'm gonna put the new sheets on the bed and just see how things go today, right? Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's anything. Hopefully, you know, I don't think there's anything brewing. I think it's just a. He needs a chill a chill day, so I'm gonna let him do that and so we'll see.
I will check in all with all of you on Thursday. I do plan to do a couple of posts throughout the week just to let you know how things are going and if it does turn out that I called it wrong and there really isn't anything like maybe there's some things that are some some not terrible illnesses just some little some groupie things that are going around here in the Twin Cities in our educational system so maybe he does have something but I don't think so I think it's just teenager vampire day so Fingers crossed and thank you so much.
Great weekend to you as well, Junk Food Junkie. I will see you and your posts later this week. I appreciate you. And for everybody, I hope that the day treats you well. If it doesn't, shame on it, not shame on you. Giant hugs.
