Hey, folks, how you doing? This is Nick the poet. I'm a Cadre creator, and obviously I'm a poet. I'm also a creative coach, and I work in the marketing business and have made films that have played in film festivals. So I like to dabble, you know, in a lot of different things. But one of my favorite things is to go live on the Cadre platform. We are super, you know, excited and enthusiastic about our message. We just had our annual retreat in Austin, Texas, and we believe, you know, going into 2023, wellness is really, you know, the most important thing.
You know, are we feeling well? Are we happy? Are we mentally healthy? Are we making progress? Are we having growth? You know, these are the questions that we can ask ourselves as we go into the new year. But let's not jump all the way ahead to the new year right now. Let's see how we can really enjoy this holiday season. Let's see how we can be jolly. It is the season to be jolly, so let's see how we can be jolly within this holiday season, which is filled with stress oftentimes, and travel and all of these different things.
So I just wanted to give you ten simple, fun things that you can do that are going to enhance your wellness over the holidays. So number one is get a massage. You cannot go wrong with a massage. If you're asking yourself, do I deserve a massage or not, the answer is yes, you do. You know, make it happen. It can relieve stress and ease muscle tension and just relax you. And we certainly need more of that during the holidays. So that's number one. Number two is my personal favorite. Go for a walk, you know, especially if you can go for a nature walk, and especially if you can bring your family, friends, and loved ones with you on the walk.
I think it's such a great way, you know, whether if you go alone to kind of meditate and to think, and if you're with, you know, family and friends, it's a great way to, you know, connect in a way that's not always revolving around, you know, food or drink or, you know, tv. It's just such a great way to connect. So get out there and go for a walk. That is my tip. Number two. Number three is to practice some yoga or meditation. Just ten or 15 minutes can go a long ways. And so you're kind of seeing the theme here.
It's, you know, how can we relieve the stress? How can we be present? How can we be in the moment? And we know that yoga and meditation are great. I would highly recommend checking out. There's a body scanning meditation from Cadre member JB, J Bren, and Matu. So check out his body scanning meditation. Evan, the counselor, who's also a Cadre creator, has some great meditations and mindfulness techniques in his videos, too. So get that yoga, get that meditation going, and it's gonna make the holiday season a lot smoother for you.
Number four is spend time with friends and family, connect with others, try to be present during this time. It's gonna increase your happiness. And so schedule that time, and when you're there, really try to be present with them, connect. This is the season for that connection. So really big one there. Number five is to get enough sleep. So it's important to make sure that you're getting enough sleep during the holidays. So this is when our bodies, you know, need to recover. And I know if I'm not getting enough sleep, I'm more likely to be hungry, angry, lonely, tired, you know, all the things, you know, come at me when I'm not getting enough sleep.
And I think it's also important to remember, like, sometimes I don't get enough sleep, and I kind of, you know, freak out a little bit about that. But it's okay, you know, if you have a night where you don't get as much, even a couple nights in a row, you're gonna be okay. Just keep breathing, keep working on staying in the now, because I find if I get too worried about my sleep because I know how important it is that I actually can, if I don't get it, then I worry too much about it. So just do all the.
All the things you can. You know, for me, it's cutting caffeine at a reasonable hour. It's getting off of technology at a reasonable hour. It's working on, you know, self care, you know, whether it's taking an Epsom salt bath or, you know, doing some writing, some journaling, listening to a little meditation, you know, anything you can do to soothe that nervous system so that you can get a good night's sleep, making sure your room is nice and dark, all that good stuff. Number six is to eat healthy foods.
So, you know, during the holiday season, we're outside of our typical routine. And, you know, I don't think we want to be perfectionistic about this. I think we just want to try to eat as healthy as we can during that time. Fruits, vegetables, whole grain, lean protein. All this stuff is going to make us feel better and not have us crash, you know, with too much sugar, you know, too much of all of this, this other stuff. And number seven is to take breaks throughout the day. So when we're feeling overwhelmed or stressed, you know, it's important to take those mini breaks.
Maybe it's, you know, stepping away from your computer or from your workspace or from wherever it is and just doing a little bit of light yoga, maybe a walk around the block, maybe a call to a friend. Maybe it's doing the dishes and just really being mindful and paying attention to the dishes. Maybe it's prayer. Maybe it's meditation, you know, anything that can kind of take us out. I know sometimes I get so focused on a problem, you know, and it becomes. It's a little thing, but it just becomes this big thing right in my mind.
But if I could somehow find a way to step back from that, right, that's where I'm going to get some relief and I'm going to be able to know, you know, what to do next. So number eight is to connect with nature. And so we talked about this one in the walk, but maybe you want to go for a drive through nature. Maybe it's just, if it's the winter season, you know, having some, some plants, you know, in your house, maybe it's. It's really. Maybe you're in a place where it is snowy, but you still just go outside and get a little bit of that, that fresh air and bundle up.
You know, there's so many different options, and we know that connecting with nature has amazing benefits. Number nine, you know, give back. How can you give back during this season? How can you help others? Whether it's volunteering, whether it's reaching out to, you know, family or friends who aren't as connected, whatever it is to do during the season that we can, we can give back, because I know that when I give back, I'm feeling a lot better. If I'm not giving back, if I'm just thinking about myself, not good.
Not good. That's where I run into trouble when I get too worried about my own problems, my own worries and fears. Right? So if I can give back and get outside of myself, it's a huge, huge deal. So number ten is to ask for help. You know, the holiday seasons can be really tough for a lot of different reasons, you know, and so do not be afraid to ask for help. You know, do not be afraid to reach out. There's a new mental health crisis hotline. You could dial 988. There's so many great options. You do not have to do this alone.
I repeat, whatever you were going through, you do not, absolutely do not have to do it alone. So just something to remember and just that art of asking that I always hearken back to. Everything we want is on the other side of fear. It might be on that other side of questions, that question whether we're asking ourselves or someone else. You know, don't be afraid to ask. You know, ask for help. How can I help you? How can you help me? Do you know anybody who can help me? Right? These are the kind of things, I think that are going to make us stronger in 2023 because we don't need to do it alone.
So those are some tips for you. We have some other amazing live streams coming up over the next week. Make sure to go to Cadre IO to learn more of these. And you can also share that, that link with your friends. Let's get people on this app, let's connect, and let's have fun and be peaceful and prosperous and positive while always remembering that we have a lot of work to do, but we're going to do it together. Okay? Have a great day. Talk to you later. Bye.
