I first started EMDR therapy two years ago, weekly. Over time it began to teach my brain how to regulate. Then I started being able to use these skills in my day to day life. But if you're on a journey of therapy or self, you're not doing it wrong. It takes time and you got this.

A lot of people feel really overwhelmed when they first start therapy. Not because they're doing it wrong, but because their nervous system has been holding on to so much for so long. I first started EMDR therapy two years ago, weekly. And I would first start my sessions talking about my life and then all of a sudden just be brought on by some intense emotion. Often before my mind would even make sense of why that was happening. Then my therapist would pause me, as she knows I'm in distress, pause me, ask me how I'm feeling, where I'm feeling it in my body.

And then we would begin a EMDR technique, either bilateral tapping, eye movement, or a guided imagery. And over time it began to teach my brain how to regulate. Then I started being able to use these skills in my day to day life. So I would be going throughout my life and notice I'm getting triggered or I'm feeling really anxious. And I would go to these tools to help me re regulate my, my nervous system. This didn't erase anything that's happened, it didn't take away my grief, but it gave me capacity to regulate myself and to make a deeper connection with my internal body and state.

And it's been truly life changing. But if you're on a journey of therapy or self, you know, guided, whatever, you're not doing it wrong. It takes time and you got this.
