Happy Thursday. Cadre crew, hello. I am coming to you live from Mexico. I am in Sayulita this week. I'm taking a little bit of mini vacation, so I'm in my Airbnb right now. I hope that my wi fi is solid enough so please let me know if it's not. And hopefully everything's okay. But yeah, I'm super happy to be in some sunshine and just get out of my normal routine. It's interesting because, because this week the. Hi junk food junkie. The theme this week on Cadre is paying attention. And it's, it's really interesting because I find that when I, when I travel.
Hi Rach. I am forced to pay attention. There is, you know, everything is different. Where I'm staying is different. Where the grocery store is different. Figuring out what I'm going to eat for every meal is going to be different. My responsibilities are different. The language is different. The weather is different. Everything is different. Which means I have to pay attention. I cannot be on autopilot. And, and this is one of the reasons I love to travel because it's, it's forced mindfulness. You know, we are on autopilot so much during our day to day lives because we're doing the same thing over and over or we're just, we just know.
When I wake up, this is the first thing I do. This is how I make my breakfast. This is, you know, where I go get my groceries. This is the list I always have. And it can be really easy for us to kind of just stop paying attention because we can easily go on autopilot. It's kind of like, you know, when you drive somewhere that you've been a million times and you don't even really need to pay attention because you, it's like a muscle memory. We can be this way in our lives. Like, we can be in an like operating from a place of muscle memory on a daily basis and it can sort of stop us from actually really paying attention and tuning into our own world and what we need.
So I love the fact that, you know, when I'm traveling I have to pay attention to my surroundings because it kind of like helps me train that part of my brain which allows me to pay more attention to myself. It allows me to pay more attention to when my body is saying, nope, this is not the right thing. It allows me to pay more attention to my gut and my intuition. It allows me to pay attention to my feelings when something is coming up because I'm exercising that mindfulness muscle. This can Be.
This can be difficult if we haven't experienced any history of trauma, physical trauma. It can feel really uncomfortable to check in with our bodies and to do that. So if it makes you feel anxious or if you start to feel panicked doing that, you can stop. That's okay. You don't have to. Or you can just focus on one body part, right? Like, find a body part that feels neutral. Like, maybe it's your hand or maybe it's your inside of your elbow. Like a body part that doesn't create any anxiety and just focus on that body part just to start to get comfortable with paying attention to your body.
The second thing that I like to do is journaling. Y' all know I love to journal. Oh, no. Am I freezing? No. I hope I'm not freezing anymore. Hopefully this gets recorded and posted. Okay. But the other thing I like to do is journaling. So writing down, like, the thoughts or the feelings that you're having, like, this is just to be a list of, like, okay, I'm gonna. I'm gonna notice, like, here is. Here are some of the thoughts that I had today. Here are some of the feelings that I had today. And just kind of going through the last.
The last hour or the. It can be the whole day and just reflecting on, like, what came up and starting to pay attention by reflecting or by in the moment, writing down just, like, where you're at. Just like a free journal, a free write, a free diary. And so these can both be really lovely ways for us to pay attention to ourselves. And over time, you'll start to do this more automatically. So you'll start to notice, like, throughout your day, like, oh, I'm actually noticing without trying to check in.
My chest feels really heavy. And I know that when my chest feels heavy, it means something is weighing on me. Or maybe I'm feeling some grief or some sorrow. So what do I need when I feel that way? I need to either cry out or I need to move my body or call a friend. You'll start to notice those things as they come up rather than retroactively. So I really hope this was. I just saw a comment saying it was freezing. I'm in Mexico, and my WI fi is. It's. It's Mexico. So the WI fi is just not going to be the best anywhere.
So I apologize if this is a little spotty, but I'm hoping it gets recorded and posted okay. So you can review it. I love you all very much, and I hope you're doing well wherever you are in the world. And next time, I will see you same time, but back in Seattle. Adios.
