No matter the time, the space, the mood, you are exactly where you're supposed to be. Last night was the first day of auditions for Giraffes Can't Dance the musical at Stages Theater Company. Risk to feel the things you're feeling.
Good evening, Cadre. How are we doing today? A Cadre today. If you want to let me know how you're doing by giving me a number, feel free to do so. No matter the time, the space, the mood, you are exactly where you're supposed to be.

Good evening, Cadre. How are we doing today? A Cadre today. At the end of the day, a surprise present, a mix up and a little Beetlejuice the musical to play it in tonight. Hey, Mel Myers, how are you doing today? Sms, I'll hit the pause right there. How are we doing? You two and up. And everybody else who just ticker taped up right on by y' all snuck in at the door at the same time, say hello, how are you doing today? I was in a class today and someone, the teacher was like, you know, if you struggle with answering the question, how are you doing?
They said, give a number. So all of a sudden these, you know, people in the room started saying, how are you doing? I'm a seven, I'm a six, I'm a nine, I'm a 73. At least it gives people an answer. And that number only has to mean something to you. So if you want to let me know how you're doing by giving me a number, feel free to do so. My name is JC if we've never shared time and space together before, thank you for the opportunity to spend some time with you right now. Hey, Chris Portman, nice to see you.
I'm glad that I'm here. I'm glad that you're here. I know what I know and I care about y' all 1% better. Craig was on this morning, so I decided to go ahead and pop on this evening to say hey. No matter the time, the space, the mood, whether the sun is up or down, whether it's hot or cold, whether it's a day that's, that's rainy or sunny, you are exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm that friendly everyday face and voice right here in the Cadre sphere. And it's my honor, Smzabs, I'm glad that you're a 10.
And today I want to share about something that I was reminded by and I'm ever taught by younger people that I get to observe in this world. Last night was the first day of auditions for Giraffes Can't Dance the musical at Stages Theater Company where I music direct and I had young person after young person, 9 to 18 years old, walk in and share some music. So at Stages, people audition acapella so with no instrumentation they get to pick a song. One minute could be any song. They do their deal. Here are three things that I wonderfully learned and I'd love to share with you about life from these young people.
Number one, risk to feel. Risk to feel the things you're feeling. I just played a song called Home that is sung by the young girl character in Beetlejuice, the one whose mother has passed away, the one who feels disconnected from her father and her stepmother, the one who befriends Beetlejuice and the ghosts that live in the new house. And this song called Home is this young person saying, I don't know where home is, but I'm going to risk to find it. It's moody. Imagine 11 year old walking in to sing a cappella.
This song with big feelings. That's what young people are really good at doing. They feel their feels. There's another great moment where all of a sudden, at the end of this young person's vocal audition, we're like, great, thank you. Head on out and we'll bring you back in in a little while to dance. And all of a sudden they're facing like this and they walked back out. Right before they walked out the door, they're like, I don't like dancing. And it was the most memorable moment of the evening because they shared their feelings.
They risked to feel. That's number one. Number two, keep going. I always love saying in the theater world or the storytelling world or the professional presentation world, or the doing the thing you do world, no one knows you're making a mistake unless you take a moment to go ahead and go. And then all of a sudden, everybody, rather than enjoying and intaking the things that you are taking care of, that you are presenting, that you are the expert on, they move their focus from that.
