  1. 0:00JC: More and more people shy away from answering that question with confidence

When it comes to something like art, do you have an opinion? More and more people shy away from answering that question with clarity and confidence. When you are in the seat of creating, whether it be something at work or something within your passion, your pastime. It is your job to have an opinions.

In a nameless place I thought I love was a hopeless case? Till I found you? Till I found you? Lived a wasteful life In a hateful city? There was no love Just pain and pity? Till I found you? Till I found you. You don't know how you me and you don't know what you gave me? And you don't know how you saved my life. I'll hit the pause button right there. Good morning, Cadre. How are we doing? Triple B, 1% better. Nice to see y' all this morning. That was a little Britney Jean. A little Britney Jean Spears coming at you this morning.

Who I am a huge fan of my biggest musical influences, Harry Chapin, Karen Carpenter, Barry Manilow, Neil diamond, and Britney Jean Spears. You may go, oh, that's an eclectic bunch. And I go, yeah, I bet we all have eclectic bunches of things that make us who we are. And with that being said, I'm glad that I'm here. I'm glad that you're here. I know what I know, and I care about you. And with that being said, Happy Wednesday. Or if it's not a Happy Wednesday, you're still in the right place. Sometimes we're inundated with one perspective, as if there's one perspective that is right, and the other ones are either wrong or maybe less than right.

And in reality, in the Cadre sphere, we show you that there's lots of ways, lots of pathways, lots of experiences, lots of ahas and surprises, challenges and successes that make us go, oh, here's my secret success to being a little bit more. Well, a little bit happier, a little bit brighter, a little bit better. My name is JC if we've never shared time and space together before, thank you for the opportunity to spend time with you right now. Do you have an opinion? I bet you do. I'll be more specific.

When it comes to something like art, do you have an opinion? You may go, yeah, either I like this art. I don't like this art. I like this music. I don't like this music. Okay, I'll give it a little bit further. When you are in the seat of creating, whether it be something at work or something within your passion, your pastime, your hobby, let's say you sign up to take a class, or you sign up to be a part of an ensemble, or you sign up to be someone creating within the larger sphere, where there is someone who is bringing things together, whether that be a boss or a director, a professional, the senior person on the team in those situations, do you risk to have an opinion.

More and more people shy away from answering that question with clarity and confidence. I'll give you an example. Let's say I am music directing a play. The cast is a bunch of 10 to 18 year olds. More often than not, I see those young people wait for me to tell them what to do before they start doing. And you may go, oh yeah, kids. Also in another scenario, let's say I'm the artistic director of a senior citizen rock ensemble made up of 60 to 90 year olds. They sit and they wait for me to tell them what to do before they start playing and doing.

Let's say I am the director of a team in a major organization and I sit down and I bring my team together and I go, so what do y' all think? They wait and they look around for the person to speak first as if there is a right answer versus question is what do you think? Not what is the capital of Virginia? Or what is three plus seven? Which has a very finite answer. We are trained somehow to think that the person in charge is supposed to tell us what to do. Whether it be in a space of creativity or a space of professional clarity.

Those people who are leading, and I will say it this way, if they're doing their best job, solicit, they elicit people to have an opinion. Hey, Mel, nice to see you. It is your job to have an opinion. When you walk into being a positive agitator of a team or a cast, the number one thing that makes a musician a musician is not how good they are at their instrument, but how do they transfer their musical opinion, their musical perspective through that instrument to make people go, huh, Now I get it.

Now I see it. It's the reason I played a little Britney Spears today, because I adore me some Britney Spears. And the reason why is I watched Britney grow up. I grew up when Britney did. And I saw the stress and the tension that Brittany had to experience that I didn't have to as much. I see how Britney used her music to go ahead and share and to say and to offer the world a perspective through her eyes. And I go, ooh, Brittany, I see your musical opinion and I appreciate it. But here's what I say to my kids, whether they're 10 to 18 year olds or 60 to 90 years old, I say this.

The best thing that can happen is that you have a choice. You make a choice or you have an opinion that everybody in the room loves. That's the best thing that can happen for you. Now watch how little my hand moves. The second best thing that can happen is that you have a perspective or an opinion or you make a choice that everybody in the room hates. Notice how much my hand just moved. The worst thing that can happen is that you don't have a perspective, you don't have an opinion. You don't make a choice because you're waiting for someone to tell you what to do.

If you are that person, I invite you today to go ahead and risk to have an opinion because you do. There's something inside of you going here's what I think or here's what I would do or here's how I see it. Answer those questions what do you think? What would you do? What do you see? If you start sharing those things the world's gonna put you on their biggest of stages y' all this is such a good bop it's the last track on the Britney Jean album Give it a listen and have a good day I'll see you tomorrow I.
