  1. 0:03Rachel: Where do you like to go to unwind on Wednesday

Rachel: Happy Wednesday. Jules and Mel, where is your favorite spot? Where do you like to go to unwind, to reconnect, to get grounded? Nick: For me it is outdoors. Just able to hear nature.

  2. 2:00We're talking about watching our mouths today on Christian Channel

All month long we're watching our mouths. Sitting on the stairs by the lake, looking out over the water. To travel on the beach, looking over the ocean. The water is calling us like Moana. So Emily, Jules, tell me, where's your favorite spot?

  3. 3:28We have to watch our mouths and we're not gossiping or slandering

We don't gossip and we don't slander. We have to watch our words and we have to make sure we're not gossiping or slandering. Be intentional with your communication and the topics that you discuss. Let your words spread more light.

Hello everyone. Good morning, Cadre. Hello, hello, hello. Come on in. Welcome and Happy Wednesday. It is a new week. It is a new day. We're in the middle of the week and it is showing great signs of goodness. Hello, Mel. Welcome to get to the Root with Rachel. So happy you joining me today. How was your day? How was the weather? Where are you? I think this is my new Cadre spot outside. Hi, Jules, nice to see you. So I am outside. This is my new favorite spot. I'm wondering, like, do you guys have a favorite spot, like a place rather than your home in your community that you just love to go to and it just rejuvenates you.

So tell me about your. Your favorite spot that you like to go to. So I have two. I have outside in my front yard. I'm outside my house and it's at the park. And I just love to just walk. I love to see nature. So tell me Jules and Mel, where is your favorite spot? Where do you like to go to unwind, to reconnect, to get grounded. That's peaceful for you. For me it is outdoors. Just able to hear nature. Hello, Nick, nice to see you. Nice to have you here with us today. Happy Wednesday. Hi, Emily. So glad you are joining us today.

So I before I get into. We're talking about the mouth. We're talking about watching our mouths. And I have a good one today. You love the ocean. Absolutely. Do you live near the ocean? Mail. Like, are you able to go there frequently? I say when I retire, after my kids graduate from high school, I am definitely moving near water. Absolutely. Hands down. So Emily, Jules, tell me, what is your, where's your favorite spot? So before we jump into. We're talking about the mouth today and all month long we're watching our mouths.

We're watching what comes out of our mouths. And this is a Christian based, evidence based channel. So we will be inserting scriptures today locally. Sitting on the stairs by the lake, looking out over the water. I'm with you. The river. Okay, listen, I think we all three got this in common. The water is calling us like Moana. Nick, what is your favorite place? Jules. To travel on the beach, looking over the ocean. Yes. I feel like we're all like moana. We'll call to the water. Yes. Okay. So we've been talking about watching our mouths.

That's a good one. Are you guys ready for this? It's a healthy reminder. I don't know if you do this or maybe like co workers or friends, family, but I want to remind you that we don't gossip and we don't slander. We have to watch our words and we have to make sure we're not gossiping or slandering. See someone. Now, in my family, sometimes we make jokes or we share information. And I think sharing information is valid, right? But gossiping is when you're sharing someone else's information and they're not even in the mix, they're not even in the room, right?

If you're. It's a difference between informing someone about news or information. But then it's another thing when you're gossiping. And in order for us to watch our mouths, we have to check and to see am I sharing valid, important, valuable information or am I just sharing somebody else's business. Sit with that. And I'm not saying it's anybody on this line, but I'm just saying be mindful of the conversations that we're having with folks, okay? Because it hurts. It hurts. It hurts to hear that someone shared information about another person, right?

As a counselor, when I wear my counselors hat, a lot of people share and that's fine. We're processing, we are learning, we're grieving, we're overcoming. That's valid because that's a healthy, safe environment. Hear me? But when we find that our words are putting down someone or our words are hurting another person's name, that's not the same, right? And I hear sometimes just various people talking about family, talking about other family members or co workers, you know, gossiping or talking about or putting down another colleague.

And that's not fruitful. And in this season, we're talking about, hey, we're going to be fruitful and we're going to be intentional and cultivating healthy communication. And so as a, as a reminder, just think of me as your big sister right now, okay? Think of me as your auntie, your cousin, a family member, a wise friend. If you ever find yourself in conversations that's shifting that, you know it's not going to bear fruit that could cost you a relationship. Shift the conversation, shift the conversation.

Change the topic. This is my, this is one of my favorites. My favorite phrase is, oh, I have a fun fact. Or did you hear about the Cardinals? I live in St. Louis. Did you hear about the Cardinals game? I just shift, I shift the topic and I talk about sports. I'll give you an example. I volunteer at my daughter's school. Okay. So this is with little ones. Okay. These are with teenagers. But a kid was about to share business about. They were about to Gossip about a fight that occurred earlier that day, and they were about to share.

I can tell they were about to share some private information about another person. And I literally shift the whole conversation. Now, granted, I am working with youth. I'm working with teenagers, so it's very common for girls and boys to share other people's informations. But that's just a prime example of you're in a space, you're with people, your peers, and you heard about something or you got intel and, like, girl, did you hear. Ask yourself, is it valuable? Is it important? Is it gonna be fruitful for this situation that I'm currently in?

And so I'm shifting my camera because I feel like the sun is in my eye and, like, messing up the view. But I just want to encourage you today that as we are intentionally watching our mouths and we are intentionally covering ourselves, be intentional with your communication and the topics that you discuss with other people, because you never know who's listening, okay? And if we find that we are contributing, even if we're just in the mix, it can taint our reputation. It can taint our reputation.

And so if you're in corporate America, if you are working on a job site, if you're a contractor, if you're a mom, like, you are modeling healthy communication when you shift conversations that no longer gossip or slander someone else, okay? So two things. You are a role model. Someone is always looking at you. Not in a creepy way, okay? But in a way of admiration. You are light in this world. You are light. Jewels. Male Nick. Whoever chimes in, you are light. And so when you are intentional with what you're speaking in the conversations, and your contribution in conversations spread more light.

Let your words be seasoned with, like, flavor and goodness. Let your words birth something new in the atmosphere that you're currently operating in. And when you sit and you think about man, I'm valuable and my words are valuable. You will see the benefit of watching your mouth. So before I wrap up, good people have empathy on others. Consider if you were the other person, how would that make you feel? Have empathy and just check. Is this adding value? Would this help or hurt my reputation? Is this really spreading love?

Am I being the light? You are powerful. You are needed. You are necessary. And when you share, you add value. When you share your point of view, you add value. Let that sink in. So as I wrap up, my charge for you is to remember that you are light.
