  1. 0:01What is your signature sin? Ask yourself what God has given you

A signature sin is usually the thing that you go to most often. It's a gift God has given you that satan twists. I have this problem where I like to save people from physical harm and emotional harm. When I get overwhelmed, usually something's off.

I'm gonna get really vulnerable with you guys today and share with you a deep, dark secret that I have. It is what I like to refer to as my signature sin. Now, don't go crazy with me. That phrase I actually read in a book, but what it means is it's a usually. So we know what sins are right from. From the Bible, from religion. And a signature sin is usually the thing that you go to most often. It's like, kind of like your easy go to. And it took me a while to really reflect on this when I read that concept.

Like, what is my signature sin? And I discovered it because it's actually a gift God has given you that satan twists. That's what a signature sin is. So, a gift that I have is. Is I like to be helpful. I like to solve problems. I like to rescue people. I like to make sure that people feel okay. I don't want them to hurt. I just really don't want to see destruction, evil, and hurt in the world. And so I kind of have this problem where I like to save people, and I like to save them from physical harm.

I like to save them from emotional harm. It can also be known as codependency, people pleasing trait. But I literally just want to, like, save people from heartache and further hurt in life. And so I have this kind of, like, rescuer mentality. And in doing that, I also like to solve problems. Like, I like to fix things. And I am a great problem solver because I'm very analytical as well, and I'm very strategic in how I think. So problems, solutions come easy to my brain, and I like to achieve things.

So, again, all of the strengths that God has given me, this is actually, like, the top list on my strength finder assessment is actually, then what? The devil will twist. And so what happens is I end up with this kind of, like, what I call it, like, savior complex. Like, I need to save the world. I need to fix everything, and it's up to me to do it, and I take on this responsibility. So it's my signature sin to actually want to save and fix everything. And I recently made the connection that I don't get overwhelmed very often in life.

I usually am pretty efficient. I can get stuff done, and I can check things off my to do list with rapid speed. And I'm a great problem solver, like I mentioned. So for me to get overwhelmed, usually something's off. It either means I have bit off more than I can chew. I have got too much on my to do list. I literally don't have enough hours in the day to do it. But I recently was overwhelmed, and that wasn't the case. And so I had to reflect on this. Like, it's not that I don't have enough hours in the day to get this done.

I actually do. So why am I overwhelmed? Because that's usually why I get overwhelmed when I just have too much going on. And I realized it was because I had a problem in front of me that I couldn't fix. I could not find a solution for it, and it was driving me absolutely crazy, because that what fuels me every day, that I can solve problems, I can fix things, I can save people, and I literally could not fix this problem. It was completely out of my control. So what did I have to do? I had to raise the white flag of surrender and say, you know what, God?

You're gonna have to do this one, because I can't. And it was in that moment that. That overwhelm just left me when I could just surrender it to God in that moment. So I would just encourage you that, first of all, figure out what your signature sin is, whether you want to call it that or not. What is kind of like your go to. Maybe it's gluttony. Maybe it's like, I overeat because I'm lonely. Maybe it's, um. I I turn to gossip when I'm stressed. Uh, maybe it's. I I become lazy when I'm stressed.

Like. Like, what is your thing? Like, what is your go to thing when you're, like, stressed, that. That becomes kind of like, just what. What twists in you. And it could actually be a gift that you have that gets just twisted. So think about it that way, too. And then after you've discovered what your signature sin is, start to recognize when it comes up, because you'll. It's really reflective to figure out, oh, my gosh, I'm doing it again. I'm doing it again. Okay, so I need to raise the white flag again and say, you know what?

This is out of my control. Because that's what we do as humans. We like to control things. And when things are out of our control, what do we do? We become more controlling, and we try to fix it. So raise that white flag and say, you know what, God? You're gonna take this one back because I was trying to be superhuman, and I'm not. And you can have it back. And I would invite you to try that because I'm gonna venture to guess you're gonna have a similar experience to me where that weight starts to lift when you can finally surrender that to God.

So I hope this was helpful for you guys today. I'm doctor Carrie and I am just glad to be on this journey with you and support you in any way possible. So if you have any questions, comments about this video or anything, please reach out to me. Love to chat with you. God bless. Bye.
