  1. 0:00It all starts with the first step to organizing your life: defining priorities

Dan Cunningham is a life organization and culinary coach. He says defining your priorities is the first step to organizing your life. Reflect on your values and goals. Create a vision statement. And create a schedule that reflects your priorities.

Hi, I'm Dan Cunningham. I'm a life organization and culinary coach. If you're feeling overwhelmed by chaos and clutter in your life, or you don't feel like you can keep up with your responsibilities or achieve your goals because you're constantly distracted and disorganized, this is for you. First of all, I want you to know you're not alone. Tons of people are in the same pose. But there is a way to regain control and create a more balanced, productive, fulfilling life. It all starts with the first step to organizing your life.

So what is that first step? It's all about defining your priorities. Before you can start decluttering your physical or digital spaces, creating schedules and to do lists or implementing any other organizing strategies, you need to really have a clear understanding of what matters most to you. What are your values? What are your long term goals? What are your short term goals? What do you want to accomplish in your personal life, your professional life? And how do you want to feel on a daily basis?

Defining your priorities is so important because it gives you a framework for making decisions, setting boundaries, and managing your time and energy. So when you know what's most important to you, you can focus on those things and let go of the rest. You can say no to requests or activities that don't align with your goals or values. And you can delegate tasks that are not your strengths or don't bring you joy. And you can create a schedule, a routine that reflects your priorities and allows you to make progress toward your goals.

So how do you define your priorities? Here are a few steps you can take. Reflect on your values and goals. Take some time to think about what matters to you most in different areas of your life, like family health, career hobbies, spirituality write down your values and goals in a journal or put them on a vision board. Identify your top three priorities and narrow down your list of values and goals to the three that are most important to you right now. These could be short term or long term, but they should be specific and things that you can take action on.

Create a vision statement. Write a sentence or two that encapsulates your top three priorities and how you want to feel when you achieve them. For example, my top three priorities are health, my family, and my career, and I want to feel energized and connected and fulfilled every day. So you use those priorities as a guide. So whenever you're faced with a decision or a task, ask yourself whether it aligns with your priorities and whether it will help you achieve your vision. If the answer is yes, go for it.

If the answer is no, reconsider or delegate it. Define your priorities. It's the first step to organizing your life because it helps you create a roadmap for successful and happiness. So take some time to reflect on what matters to you most and use knowledge to guide your organizing journey. Good luck and keep checking back in right here on Cadre.
