Happy Tuesday. Are we live? Are we working? I'm in my new apartment with my new Wi-Fi and my new everything when I have no furniture. Hi Rach. Happy Tuesday. Hello, hello. We're here, we out here guys. We really out here and Yeah, things are happening. I hope y'all are doing well. I am the most like excited and overwhelmed girly. Hi, Jules. I yeah, I moved into my new apartment this weekend and It's been such a whirlwind, but I'm just feeling super, super excited about my new space, but also really overwhelmed because I don't have any furniture.
And when I moved in, I realized there are so many things I don't think about needing until I don't have them. In my brain, I was like, I made a list of like, These are things I'm gonna need to get. I need to get a couch, I need to get a desk, I need to get a kitchen table. But then I got here and I was like, Oh, I need scissors. Like, I don't own scissors. Like, and stupid little shit like that. Or like, I don't, I need measuring cups. I need like paper towels and cleaning supplies. Like all these little things that like, I just was not, it just like, doesn't occur to me until I'm here and I'm like, oh, I can't like open a box because I don't have scissors or I can't actually.
cook because I don't have a pot. just silly little things that I just was not thinking about. So I got really overwhelmed. And I called my mom and I was like, mom, I just like, I don't know what to start with. Like, I don't know, like, what's the most important thing because I can't buy it all at once. Like, I just can't afford to literally just buy everything all at the same time. So I have to take my time, which is a good practice, but also I have to live. So I'm like, what do I prioritize? And she was like, just focus on the things that are driving you the most crazy not to have.
I was like, oh, that's smart. Like it's not driving me crazy that I don't have a couch. I'd like to have one, but it's not driving me crazy. It is driving me crazy that I don't have scissors. It is driving me crazy that I don't have a dish rack to dry my dishes. So like focusing on the things that like I are the most annoying not to have is like a pretty great hack. And like I think that's something that I'm also trying really hard to practice this time around because I have moved so many times is taking my time, which is hard for me to do.
I have a tendency to want to do it all at once and like nest right away. I'm trying really hard this time to slow down and like not rush the nesting process as badly as I want to. and getting comfortable with things being in process, with things being unfinished, with empty spaces, empty walls, empty drawers. Like I don't have to rush myself into filling all that space and I can be in process unfinished. Yes, I can. Yes, I can. Yes, I can. Don't forget a plunger. crap. Yeah, I bought a What do you call it?
Toilet bowl cleaner, which is supposed to arrive today, and trash cans for my bathroom and my kitchen. But I didn't get a plunger yet. I think there might be one here already. I have to look. But yeah, slowing down is really hard for me. But every time I do, life gets better. And this is really embarrassing, but I had to record myself for like a video the other day and I went back to watch it and I was like, very aware of how fast I'm moving in the video. Like it's it's evident how how my internal speed is set to like rapido like and I just thought like, wow, Rach, like you like you can you can slow down.
Like you don't have to do things that fast. Like and so I've been really trying to like not like in just the grand scheme of things, things, grand scheme of themes, grand scheme of things. slow down, but also in like smaller ways. So like, and I've talked about this a lot, but like I'm trying to single task, not multitask. So if I'm brushing my teeth, I'm not also taking my earrings off. I brush my teeth, then I'm done. Then I take off my earrings. Then I wash my face. Then I take off my necklace.
Like I'm normally trying to like do so many things at the same time, which just contributes to this rushed mindset of I don't have enough time and I do have enough time. So I'm trying really hard to slow down, do things one at a time, focus on one thing at a time, pay attention to that one thing I'm doing. And I don't know, I'm curious to see what's gonna happen. especially with my living space, if I allow myself to do that. 'Cause I have this tendency to think if I don't do it right now, it's not gonna happen.
But that's not true. It's not like I'm never gonna get a couch. I'm gonna get a couch, but if I don't do it this week, it doesn't mean I'm never gonna do it. I think that's the fear that I have. I think the fear is if I don't do it now, it's not gonna happen. And that's rooted in trust issues right there. brother that is some serious trust issues with myself I guess we're having this is like a solo therapy session now I'm just discovering things I did not realize but like yeah if there's this like tendency that I have to do things quickly because I'm scared they won't happen otherwise is it that I don't trust myself to do them or that I don't trust that they're going to happen because in my past other people haven't done things So I feel like I have to do it all myself.
Maybe it's a combination of both. That's a question for my therapist that I still don't have 'cause I'm still waiting for health insurance. But yeah, I'm trying really hard to slow down and see how that impacts my life because I have operated at full speed, 70,000 miles an hour, driving seven cars at once while watching, I don't actually do that, but like you get the metaphor, I'm trying to slow down. so yesterday I went to Goodwill to look for some furniture and there were, there were couches there and they would have been fine.
And there was part of me that's like, I'll just get this until I find something better. And then I was like, no, Rach, you don't, you don't need to do that. You can just wait. Like, you can just not have a couch until you find the one you want. Which was like, kind of a relief to not like, come home with a couch that I was like not excited about just so I could have a couch. So yeah, that's my practice right now. Excuse me. Wow. Hang on, I'm just gonna read some of these comments because I did not read them.
Sometimes simplicity is best. Yes. Facebook marketplace. Oh yeah, I'm all over that. I think I have some messages I have to respond to actually. When I got my first apartment, my rolling chair acted as my couch desk chair. Yep. Yep. I literally, my desk is also my kitchen table. It's also like where I watch my TV shows. Like I put my computer on my desk and I just sit and watch my TV shows. So we're using one piece of furniture for multiple functions here as well. Love that. My hubby and two boys are at the state track meet and I'm purging, rearranging and keep telling myself trust the process since my house looks chaotic.
That's so real. That is me often. I'm like the queen of rearranging and purging my stuff. Like it feels so good, but like in the moment I'm like why did I decide to do this this is insane like but it always feels really good afterwards um yeah I feel that okay my loves um well I'm so excited that this works because I just installed my new Wi-Fi like two days ago and it's been fine but I haven't tried to go live since I got it so I'm glad to know that this works in my new space and uh I'll keep you posted on both the furniture but also on the slowing down.
Because I won't keep trying and I hope you do too. So and Jules very excited to hear how your purging and rearranging of furniture goes. So keep us posted. Okay let's
