Rachel takes her own advice by closing her laptop, planning a walk with her dog, and sketching apartment plans, while urging viewers to give themselves permission to rest. The episode ends with warm well-wishes and a gentle signoff.
Hello, happy Tuesday. Are we live? Are we working? I think we are. Hey honey buns. I'm gonna let folks take a moment to trickle in. It is hot here today. Hi Rach. How are you my love? Good to see you. This is my last week in my sublet. I'm moving into my new apartment on Saturday. Very excited. Very excited. Yeah. Hi, Jules. Nice to see you. Hi, Speak Wonder. Oh, the gang is all here. So sweet. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that this week is being very gentle on you. I, was just saying I'm like super, I'm super excited because I am moving into my new apartment this week, which I'm very, very, very excited for.
A, because I'm just excited to have my own space, but B, because I'm going to finally have like more of an indoor space. So like I've had this like really lovely, I don't think I'm really showing y'all, but like it's like a very like outdoor, indoor, like situation but my kitchen is outside and it's not really a full kitchen and the only table situation I have is outside which is really really nice and it's hot so like during the day when I'm working on stuff like I'm outside and I just like I get overheated so I'm excited to have an indoor space with some AC because I think that will be good for my brain and my body for Milo because he's got some really dry skin right now.
My poor little baby, I had to take him to the groomer because he was like scratching so much that he matted up his ears like really bad. And they were like, oh, he's got like really dry skin. So no, it's not the whole thing, but like everything except for the bedroom and the bathroom. So and it's not like a full kitchen. There's like a mini fridge and an air fryer and a microwave and like a little sink and like a big dining table. And there's like an outdoor TV It's super cool. It's a really cool space, but it's not great for like forever.
So 50th birthday. Yes, let's go, Jules. Happy belated. Happy birthday to you, my dear. What season are we in astrologically? I don't know much about this time of the year. I know our next season is Cancer season, but I can never remember what's before that. But anyways, yes, moving and this week, The topic of the week on Cadre is rest as identity. Fascinating topic for this young lady. Rest. Wow. I am still learning how to rest. Like I'm I'm better at I'm better at resting than I used to be. And I'm better at telling myself that like I don't have to earn rest.
Like I don't like just high gym food. I like don't just have to like don't just get to rest like after I've worked really hard or when I'm exhausted. Like I can rest whenever I desire. But when I first started like learning about this like concept of rest, like a few years ago, I was like, what does that even mean? Like how do people rest without doing things? Like does that mean I like literally lay on the couch like a zombie and don't like don't watch TV, don't read, don't look at my phone, like what is like what is resting?
And yeah, it was like very difficult for me to like conceptualize that and like I wanted to make rest an activity and I sort of realized that like in a way rest is an activity like rest is like something that you plan for or something that you carve out time for. And like it's more about like what is restful to you. So like what's restful to me might not be restful to you, right? Like and vice versa. Like for some people, like doing a craft is really restful. For me, no. Like doing a craft is like I'm thinking I'm like I'm brainstorming.
I'm like invested and like that's not like a way for me to like turn my brain off. And for me, I really need mental rest. It's less than I need physical rest and it's more than I need mental rest. So sometimes for me, rest is actually getting into my body, whether that's going for a walk or gentle yoga, doing something where I can get out of my head so I can rest my mind. So I think there are a lot of different ways that we can rest. And I think it's really a matter of asking yourself, when I do this, do I feel rested after versus is this how rest is supposed to look, because I don't think it's supposed to look one way.
Yeah, like, oh yeah, you rest down. Sleep is a different story. Yeah, I feel like sleep is like, sleep is a funny one because I feel like I also like put sleep into like the rest category because like obviously like we're like that is rest and like recovery time. But also like if rest or sleep is like the only way I'm resting, like I'm probably not actually resting as much as I need to be like, at least for myself because I'm like always on, like whether it's with work or like, I just like I'm always on.
And so like finding ways to rest that are like that happen like throughout the day, like taking breaks, like taking actual breaks and taking a moment for myself. And also longer forms of rest, literal retreat, whether that's like vacation or actually spending a weekend or your days off of work not working. I'm not good at that. I have a hard time with that. Yeah, so I think it's really important to carve out A, like what does rest mean to me? What are times where I feel rested afterwards? Or just like what sounds restful?
Like if you're like noticing that you have gone hours throughout the day or days in the week or weeks in the month, like just literally nonstop on the go, like just ask yourself like what would feel really restful right now? And like your body and your brain will like probably have an answer. Like if I ask, okay, let me ask, I would feel restful right now. Honestly, like a spa day, getting, getting some TLC from somebody else would feel restful, like a massage or having somebody take care of me in some way, having somebody cook me a meal, like being taken care of in some way so that I can like remove those responsibilities for a few hours.
That sounds really restful. So like again, like it's not going to be the same every single time. Like sometimes like what we need for rest is Spa day, what even is that? No, literally. I don't think I've had a spa day in such a long time. It's going to be different for everyone, right? So there are lots of ways to rest and lots of things we need to rest, right? So I kind of said this already, but like we have to rest our minds. We have to rest our bodies. We have to rest our hearts. We have to rest our like our social time, our relationships.
Like For anyone out there that's codependent or have an anxious attachment, like resting socially is a really good exercise around like helping us build healthier attachments and reducing codependency. Like taking breaks from spending, like doing everything with somebody else. So like having alone time is like rest from social. And I think that Again, like there's no right or wrong way to do it. It's just we got to find ways to do it. In summertime, I like to relax in the swimming pool and listen to music.
Oh my god, that sounds so nice. I need to find a pool. I wonder if there's like a public pool somewhere nearby. I'm sure there must be to just like lay out that sounds delightful. Therapist is off this week, so I've been telling myself I'm taking a break. A break from therapy? No, literally. Sometimes we also need like therapy rest. Like I have absolutely taken therapy breaks where like I'm like, what? I think I'm in a therapy rut or something or like we're just not getting anywhere and I just need to take like a self-analytical break, like self-analytical rest.
And I think that's super important and smart. So I love that. My summertime peace is being in my garden. I love that. I want to garden. I want to know how to garden. My mom has like the most beautiful garden ever, which is hilarious because she was like such a city lady growing up. And like to see her now like thriving on a farm with a garden is like the coolest thing. And I hope one day to have a garden like my mom's. I aspire to that. I think it'd be pretty incredible. So. All right, my loves.
Well, on the note of rest, I need to log off for the day. 30am and I probably could work for the rest of the night, but I'm going to take my own medicine or take my own advice, take my, what is it? Clearly the brain needs rest and I'm going to rest my brain. I'm going to close my laptop. Yes I am. And I'm going to go for a nice little walk with Milo. Yes I am. And then I might like just lay in my bed and I might sketch. I might sketch out like my, this is what I'm gonna do. If anybody cares. I'm gonna get graph paper and I'm gonna measure out my new apartment and like draw it out like a blueprint and start like imagining where I would put furniture.
Yes, thank you, Rachel. Taste of your own medicine. Taste of my own medicine. So I hope you all find ways to rest tonight, this week, this weekend. give yourself permission to rest. You are allowed to rest. You cannot function well if you do not rest. So as as someone from one productive princess to another, we don't produce well if we don't rest well. So I wish you all rest and I will see you same time in my new apartment. Oh my god, next week. Okay, honey buns. And as always, stay hydrated.
