  1. 0:13Do nothing today with our live practice of meditation

We're going to be focused on doing nothing. The whole point here is to come back to a state of calm and focus on your breath. It's amazing what happens when you stop your thought process. With meditation and stopping and being still, you gain access to this hyper level of clarity.

  2. 4:09Starting with 20 breaths is a great way to begin your meditation

So let's start with a big inhale. Big exhale. One more just to start our relaxation and start to begin our practice. The point of meditation is to really break that down and make it more linear. And this is the first step that can help you to do that.

All right, good morning, everybody. We're here today with our live practice of meditation. As you can see, here I am in my comfortable little meditation space. So whatever that looks like for you, you can get your space together anytime that you want to get into a time that you want to disconnect from your distractions, from work, from your life, even for five minutes, you know, this is possible just to take a break. So the whole point here is do nothing, you know? So this was on our last week's theme, do nothing day, which we missed because we were sick.

So I did a very good job of doing nothing myself, don't you worry. But today we're going to kind of go back and revise this and do it one more time with all of you. So we're actually going to be focused on doing nothing. So that's kind of the whole point here is, you know, through our days, we typically get really distracted, you know, with things that are going on with our work, with relationships, with friends, family, things that we need to do, cleaning, whatever you can think of, you know, it makes us think, you know, ahead.

It makes us think in the past. But we always have a hard time kind of finding ourselves here in this present moment because we are intelligent beings and we have to come up with stuff and ideas and solutions for problems, which is natural. But every once in a while, we need to stop that process of thinking so intensely and really come back to a state of calm and focus on your breath, where there's really no thoughts involved. And it's kind of amazing what happens when you stop your thought process.

You stop and take a break from your own thoughts, from yourself and almost disconnect from yourself as who you know. And when you actually do that, it's strange because in the first few minutes, you won't really notice much. And as you get into the practice more, you'll start to notice. Thoughts will start to drop in, almost like magic. It's almost like you're not even thinking the thoughts. It's this level of clarity that's it's not like making a choice between one thing or the other. It's like having an understanding of discernment, and it's like a stronger feeling of understanding your choice of what is right and what is wrong.

So with meditation and stopping and being still, you kind of gain access to this hyper level of clarity. So let's go ahead and give it a try. So wherever you are, I'll give you just a few moments to get comfortable, as you can see, like, I've got a blanket of I'm really kind of cozy because we want to be as comfortable as we can. Because if we are sitting still and we're not moving, it's very important that we stay that way. And the whole point today is we're going to be going through about 20 breaths and I'll guide you through the breaths.

Inhale to exhale. And we're going to be focused on not moving. You see how I had an itch back here and I moved. So through this, just 20 breaths, it's going to be kind of an example. I usually do 100, 200, 300, up to 500 breaths sometimes. And I try and stay still through this whole thing. And that means not even going to itch your nose or your head or change your hand positions or anything like that. It's 100% stillness besides your breath. That's it. Everything else you just bring awareness to in your body.

And that is all that we're doing. Literally, don't do anything, don't even think. But when thoughts come in naturally, they will allow them to and let them go. That's the whole point. So let's go ahead and get started. Hopefully you found a comfortable space where we're not going to move for about the next three to five minutes. So let's start with a big inhale. Big exhale. One more just to start our relaxation and start to begin our practice. Start to wind our mind down and start to take a little break before we begin our day fully.

Okay. And we'll go ahead and begin our 20 breaths. So now make sure you're still. Do not move your hands, legs, body, head, face is like a statue. Imagine it like a statue. Now close your eyes and we'll inhale. With our first INhale, deep Inhale. You can hold slightly at the top. And exhale. That's one. Inhale and exhale. That's two. Inhale and exhale. That's three. Inhale and exhale four. Inhale and exhale five. Inhale and exhale six. Inhale and exhale seven. Inhale and exhale eight. Inhale and exhale nine.

Inhale and exhale. And that is ten. So just for the sake of this exercise, we're just going to do ten breaths for today. I think you understand the idea of this tool that I'm giving you. And this is something that you can do, obviously on your own at Home. And just like breath, counting alone and setting yourself up with a like 50 breaths or 100 breaths can be a really great way to begin your meditations, especially if you're new, because it's very easy to get distracted and start to think of all the things we need to do for the day or things that happened yesterday or what's going to happen.

And all that kind of stuff will come up in meditations, especially if you're new. But that's okay. That is normal. That's absolutely normal for that to happen. But you know, when we are starting, it's good to have that understanding that this is normal. To have an over active thought process is normal and it's okay. But the point of meditation is to really break that down and make it more linear because we want to be able to think clearly or utilize those overactive thoughts in a way that's beneficial for us.

And this is the first step that can help you to do that is to really sit down, be still, and allow your thoughts to come in more clearly. So with that, that's our meditation for the tit for today, and I hope you have a good one. Guys, I'll see you next week. Thanks.
