In this live we will be practicing and observing the length of our breath holds, both at the bottoms of our breath and at the top of our breath.
Find your comfortable seated position, whether that's outside, laying down on a mat, sitting in a chair. For this practice, we're going to be mainly focusing on our breath holds. We want to kind of get into a meditative state with our breath work.
So with these types of holds, you can absolutely practice getting longer and longer. This is a really great way to find some natural relaxation. Be cautious of where you're trying to do your breath holds because you can get a little bit woozy. See you next week for our next breathing and meditation exercise.
Hey, everybody. Good afternoon. Good morning. Wherever you may be. We're going to be coming on today with another breathing exercise, so I'll let you guys go ahead and get signed on. Find your comfortable seated position, whether that's outside, laying down on a mat, sitting in a chair. Most important part is to make sure that you just feel comfortable and when you start breathing, that nothing is kind of bothering you, you know? So we want to kind of get into a meditative state with our breath work and kind of deepening our internal awareness and our practices in that sense.
So hopefully you guys are logging on. Looks like we have our notification. So for this practice, we're going to be mainly focusing on our breath holds. So we can hold at the top all the way, and we can hold all the way at the bottom. So two different kinds of breath holds. And always in between, we're always inhaling to the top, we're exhaling to the bottom. So what we're going to do is simply explore the top end and the bottom end of our capacity here. So let's start just by breathing all the way in and exhaling.
Just a few deep breaths. Maybe people are still logging on here. So just find that kind of natural rhythm in your breathing. Breathing in with your stomach to your chest and imagining the top of our head, that's kind of our foundation here. And just breathing for now, becoming comfortable with our breath. Inhaling and exhaling. Nothing too different besides that. We're just. It's a very deep breath. Deeper than usual, maybe deeper than you've taken all day. And let's breathe all the way in and just kind of hold a light, hold at the top and just feel that, what it feels like.
Let's let it all out and just hold slightly at the bottom. Feel that. Good morning, Cadre. Hope you're enjoying your breath. Holds deep. Inhale again and just release. We're just deepening our breath at the moment. Nothing too special here. Stomach, chest, up to the head and just relaxing. Just centering ourselves, coming to a peaceful place. We may be distracted with whatever we're doing for the day. So right now, we're just kind of focusing on grounding ourselves with our breaths before we actually dive into our practice.
So a couple more. Just at your own pace. Deeper than you have from the rest of the day. Just letting it out. Inhale all the way to the top. A light hold. Feeling the sensation in your chest and just release down through your belly. Feel that sensation of it all coming out, almost allowing the negativity to release from you as you breathe out. And when you inhale, it's like inhaling compassion, love and any kind of intention that you want to take in for the day. So let's take in that intention, whatever you want it to be.
Love and light, happiness, all the good stuff. Hold it in and let's go ahead and breathe out. Any sort of toxicity, negativity, anything you don't want. And let's hold at the bottom. All right, we're going to be getting a little bit longer into our breath holds. So let's go ahead and inhale all the way in. And we're going to hold for about 30 seconds at the top. Make sure you have all of it in. Feeling the sensation, feeling your heart beat, maybe you feel tingly all okay. And go ahead and release slowly out with a sigh and leg.
Really release everything. Push. Push the air out, all of it. And hold this 1 may be a little bit more difficult. Just hold as long as you can. And let's go ahead and breathe it all in up to the top. And we're going to hold again. Hold here, keep going. Holding at the top. Just feeling the sensations. And let's release. Let's go down to the bottom again, out to the belly and hold. And let's go ahead and inhale all the way, belly, chest to the head. Last couple sips and hold again and release. We're going to do one more round of that.
All the way out. Hold at the bottom. Keep it up and let's inhale all the way. Last couple sips at the top of the head and hold at the top. Keep going, keep going as long as you can. Feel that air expanding the chest. And let it all go. Got a little gas on my belly on that. That's great. So to return to a normal breathing rhythm for just a moment, give yourself a break. Feel the expansion just coming in and out normally. Maybe a little bit deeper than usual. Just to feel the full compression of the chest going in, in and out.
In through the nose and sigh through the mouth. In through the nose and sigh through the mouth. Alright, we'll return to a normal breathing rhythm. So with these types of holds, you can absolutely practice getting longer and longer. So we want to shoot for with a hold on any, any either at the top or the bottom. You want to shoot for a hold that's of at least about 30 to 60 seconds. And to actually expand our lung capacity and expand the amount of time that we can hold on to those breath holds. We want to start to shoot for about 90 seconds, all the way up to 120 seconds of no oxygen in the lungs and holding your breath.
This is a really great way to find some natural relaxation, especially after the breath. The breath work and then going to zero oxygen in the lungs. It can give a real sensation of tranquility within the body. And to come back into your day, it's very kind of refreshing, renewing. So I would recommend trying these different breath holds. With some of the practices we've done, you can do rounds of 30 just normal breaths and then releasing your hold all the way out. And try and hold that for about two minutes.
See if you can get up to two minutes. You know, it's almost like a competition for me at this point. I've tried to get up to. I think the longest I've gotten up to is about four minutes. But by that time, it's getting pretty tough and even it can get kind of dangerous. So depending on where you are, you might want to lay down. You know, don't be doing anything that's like near a pool or, you know, in water or driving or anything like that, because you can lose consciousness if you are pushing it to its limit.
Now, this is okay. You're not going to harm yourself, you're just going to come back. But I would be cautious of where you're trying to do your breath holds because you can get a little bit woozy, a little bit dizzy, and even, even kind of lose where you are for a moment. So just be careful with these. If you're doing them on your own and just kind of know your body's limitations, start small and then work your way up. So with that, I think that's all that we have for today. And I will see you guys next week for our next breathing and meditation exercise.
So hopefully you enjoyed and I'll see you next time. Bye.
