This morning I almost didn’t try. Nothing was technically wrong. I was just tired, it was snowing, and everything felt heavier than usual. I stood there for a minute seriously considering calling it. Then I paused, made some tea, and reminded myself that there will be days when we truly can’t do the thing. Today just wasn’t one of them. So I tried anyway. We got moving. We made it to school on time. And it turns out he had a really good day. Ta-da!!! As parents and caregivers, sometimes the victory isn’t a perfect morning or a flawless plan. Sometimes it’s choosing not to quit before you start. Have you ever thought it was going to be too hard, and then surprised yourself by getting through it anyway?
I almost didn't try. I woke up tired. It was snowing. I almost decided that today was the day that we stayed home. But then I reminded myself that there will be days when we really can't do the thing. So I tried. And you know what? We made it to school on time.
Confession this morning. I almost didn't try. Not because anything was wrong, it's just cuz I woke up tired. You know that kind of tired where the dreams worked overtime and my body didn't get the memo that I was supposed to rest. So I stumbled out of bed, heard that my kid was still asleep and then looked out the window and saw that it was snowing. And yeah, I thought this feels like a solid day to just not. So I almost called it. I almost decided that today was the day that we stayed home. The just because it felt difficult to try.
And then I paused, I made some tea, I took a breath and I reminded myself that there will be days when we really can't do the thing. And today just wasn't one of those days. So I tried. Anyway, I woke him up, I got us both moving. And you know what? We made it to school on time. Ta da. And it turns out he had a really good day. And so did I. So I'm glad that I saved the option of not trying for another day when I really need it. So has that ever happened to you? A moment when you just were going to give up on trying and then you surprised yourself and did it anyway?
