  1. 0:01Hello there. I am one minute late, and I apologize. The world is on fire

Hello there. I am one minute late, and I apologize. The world is on fire. If this is your first time with me, because I'm coming on at a time that's very different than I would normally. If you're watching this on replay, come in and get some of this goodness.

  2. 0:40Take a pause in your day to check in on how things are going

Mel Robbins: Let's start with a pause. She says you have the ability to shift your day. Wherever you find yourself, can you just name it and be okay with it and check in? Robbins: It's something that we don't often do unless somebody guides us to do it.

  3. 1:48Another thing I will invite you to do, this is an emotion regulation tool

Another thing I will invite you to do, this is an emotion regulation tool that I always think is helpful, is let's kind of rate your week. On a scale of 1 to 10, one being the lowest. I would give myself, as a week, a solid 8.5.

  4. 2:49Coleman says not to allow difficult moment to define you

I want to spend a little time today just really honing in how important it is not to allow a difficult moment to define you. We're going to have moments, seasons that feel a little rough. Don't let it define what you believe about yourself. And both can coexist.

  5. 5:44Make sure you are being intentional about acknowledging the good in equal amounts

I want to invite you for a moment. Let's share some good. When we actually practice taking time to acknowledge and name what is good, it creates a spark into the reward center of our brain. Don't let a tough moment create momentum that will take you in the wrong direction.

Hello there. I am one minute late, and I apologize. The world is on fire. Does anyone else feel that way? I hope you don't all feel that way, truly, but there's just so much happening. If this is your first time with me, because I'm coming on at a time that's very different than I would normally. Come on. I'm so glad that you're popping through for a moment. If you're watching this on replay, come in and get some of this goodness. Hello, Jackie. Hello, Coleman. Good to see you. I think one of the best ways for us to start, which I love to start, is let's start with a pause.

Right? You are likely pretty into your day. You're going, I hope your day is what it needs to be for you today. But if it's not, here's the good news. You is that you have the ability to actually shift your day. You have the ability to determine. Hey, Mel, you know where you want things to go and to direct. But I want to invite you to just take a moment, take a beat, pause, maybe, like, lean back into your chair for a moment, shrug your shoulders and just go, like, how am I? Like, really? You know, I'm getting all the things done.

I'm super pumped up about this, or I'm overwhelmed about this. Wherever you find yourself, can you just name it and be okay with it and check in? It's something that we don't often do unless somebody guides us to do it, but it's super important. Another thing I will invite you to do, this is an emotion regulation tool that I always think is helpful, is let's kind of rate your week. If you think about, on a scale of 1 to 10, one being the lowest. Hello, Dr. Teresa. 10 being like, I'm having the most phenomenal week of a lifetime.

Given the context of your life, where are you? How would you rate your week? That's a chance to kind of check in, to kind of notice, oh, my weeks have been running low lately. Or, oh, no, they're actually kind of running on a different gear. 5. And I'll be honest, I almost lowered it a little bit. That's awesome, Jackie. But I had to remind myself that I wasn't rating a moment, that I'm rating the entire week, which is where I want to focus. Thank you for that, Dr. Teresa. I want to spend a little time today just really honing in how important it is not to allow a difficult moment to define you.

Right. We're going to have moments, seasons that feel a little rough, that are unwanted, that are uncertain. Love that rating, Coleman. But I really want you to consider how are you speaking to yourself during these moments? Are you giving yourself. Thank you, Mel. An opportunity to recognize this is a moment, this is a situation, this is a season. But I don't actually have to let it define everything that I believe about who I am or everything I believe about what's possible. I don't have to allow it to create what we call anticipatory anxiety.

So sometimes, depending upon what's going on, when something's not working the way that we want to, or we're actually coming off of a season where everything was really great and then something happens that we didn't expect, it can cause us to anticipate with anxiety. Am I going to be able to recreate this and make it always feel good all the time? Am I going to be able to get through this? Am I going to be able to navigate this situation when I don't know how it's going to turn out or it's not happening as fast as I want it to?

And again, that's the moment that you just want to pause and remind yourself it will not feel this way forever. I hope that all of you have something that's happening in your life right now that's good, that is bringing you joy and pumping you up and exciting you. And it's also possible that you have something else that's happening that's just kind of. But I'm still working through this over here. This is still really, like, getting me down. I'm really frustrated we can't figure this out. And both can coexist.

But don't let this moment define you. Don't let it define what you believe about yourself, what you believe is possible. And it's not always going to do that in loud ways. Sometimes it's a little subtle stuff, like you get yourself through it for a moment and then later on just something comes up. Oh, that's awesome. You had a very good phone call with your estranged daughter. That is huge. Thank you for that share. You know what? Let's all do that. I want to invite you for a moment. Let's share some good.

What's something that you've experienced or you've done that is going well? I actually just got out of a moment that was hard and good. It was a moment of me being able to support some people that were going through a really, really tough time in experiencing loss. But I felt really great because I was able to give them tools and I was able to hold space for them to be honest about what they were experiencing without fearing that they would be judged. So, hard moment, but good moment, right? What else is going well?

And that's actually a skill. Did you know that there is something called neuroplasticity? If you've been around me, you've heard me talk about it before. Neuroplasticity is our ability to change, to create new synapses. And when we actually practice taking time to acknowledge and name what is good, it creates a spark into the reward center of our brain, which creates dopamine that lifts us up and it's pretty powerful. But not often something that we do, because that's the thing about letting that tough moment define you, is then we can start focusing on what we're not doing.

We're focusing on the to do list. And I still haven't gotten this and right. And we don't want that. But when we take time to actually acknowledge, here's what's going well, here's where I'm showing up and I'm neutral or proud. Despite everything that's happening around me. That neuroplasticity is there, that creates something very powerful and luscious in the brain. It's good for the heart, it's good for the soul, and it's good, good for your momentum. So with that being said, I want to remind you, just as we pull everything back together again, make sure you pause multiple times throughout the rest of the day and the weekend.

Right? Yes. Gratitude over attitude. Make sure that you are being intentional about acknowledging the good in equal amounts that you may be acknowledging the hard. And more importantly, pay attention to any part of you that is defining yourself or allowing a tough moment to have way too much momentum. Right. Don't let a tough moment create momentum that will take you in the wrong direction. Whatever you're navigating that's challenging. Remember, storms never last forever. Eventually things clear, the clouds roll back, the sun comes out and the warmth will be felt again.

So hang in there. Alright? Have an amazing day. I'm gonna pop in and continue to come in and spend time with you. So I'll do my best to let you know ahead of time and put it in so that you can be here with me. But come back and be with us all and know that you're always welcome in this space. We are here for you. You are important to us. Thank you for spending some time with me today. I hope you have an amazing rest of the.
