Struggling to stay focused during your round? This video breaks down simple strategies to sharpen your focus, stay present, and play your best golf one shot at a time.
Golf is a game of moments. Stay present helps you commit fully to each shot. Use a pre shot routine and play one shot at a time. Breathe with intention to instantly reset yourself into the present moment. Try one of these tips and watch how your game changes.
Have you ever stepped into a shot and thought about your last shot, a previous bad swing, your score or the water hazard ahead? Your mind might be costing you strokes and you don't even know it. Golf is a game of moments. Each shot is a new challenge and distractions, frustrations and future thinking can take you out of your rhythm. Whereas staying present helps you commit fully to each shot, both mentally and physically. So I have three tips to help improve your focus and your presence when you're golfing.
Number one is to use a pre shot routine. This is one of the biggest tips that helped me as I've gotten more and more into golfing and helps my consistency overall, but especially my focus. A pre shot routine creates the mental consistency and signals your brain and body to lock in. Same steps, same mindset every time. More and more you practice it, the better it becomes. So you can utilize it at the range and when you go out and actually complete around. And the second tip to help your focus and presence is to play one shot at a time.
Let go of the last shot and don't predict the next one. Treat every shot like it's the only one that exists. One helpful acronym for you is W I N win, which stands for what's important now. So think to yourself, what's the most important thing I need to focus on right now? Simplify your focus to one cue and execute on that focus. And the third quick tip I have to improve your focus and presence is to breathe with intention, which can be incorporated into the first two tips. Implement a deep breath before each shot and that can signal to your brain and body to instantly reset yourself into the present moment.
It helps calm your nerves and it helps center your mind. Those are three quick tips just scratching the surface on them. But if you implement those, those can help. You likely have helped me and I think about golf as you don't need a perfect swing swing. You need a clear mind. So go ahead, try one of these tips and watch how your game changes.
