  1. 0:00Sports psychology can help improve your golf game, especially mental aspects

Even the best of pros with perfect mechanics can fall under pressure because of how their mind is performing. Sports psychology is so important to the game. Next time you play, focus less on your mechanics and more on your mindset. Your swing is important, but it can only perform as well as your mindset allows.

I'm biased, but I believe the mental side of sport is super critical. But especially for golf. Golf is very unique. There's long stretches of quiet and solitude. You have no teammates to rely on and it requires high precision. And even the best of pros with perfect mechanics can fall under pressure because of how their mind is performing. Small mental lapses, whether that be doubt, anger, fear, inability to get over a previous mistake that that can ruin an entire round and destroy your score. And there's key mental challenges within golf, which is why sports psychology is so important to the game.

For instance, your self talk. How does your internal dialogue build or break your confidence, your focus and your presence? Are you able to stay in the moment instead of dwelling on past shots or thinking about your future shots? Also your emotional control. How are you able to manage frustration? Because that is inevitable if you've ever golfed before, you're going to get frustrated. How do you handle your nerves or your over excitement? How can you stay confident, especially under pressure, especially on short putts, tight drives, clutch shots that you need to hit?

Your swing is important, but it can only perform as well as your mindset allows. So I'll make a whole series of these great videos, great content for you to help grow your golf game. I invite you to watch them and then you can go out and try them when you're practicing or during your next round. And I encourage you that next time you play, focus less on your mechanics and more on your mindset. And that's where your real handicap lives.
