  1. 0:00Rachel: I asked my audience to share their best advice from therapists

The best advice that therapists have ever given. Hi, my name is Rachel. I'm a mental health advocate and writer, and I've been in therapy for about 20 years. And my goal on this platform is to just help one person feel less alone. So a couple weeks ago, I asked my audience to share with me some of the best advice that therapists have ever given them, and I'm gonna share that list with you now. Okay. Number one, create a what helps me list to come back to on days that you're really going through it.

So this person said that their list is simple. It's like seven to eight hours of sleep, daily meditation, eating nutritious meals, et cetera, et cetera. And it's a list that you can come back when you're having a hard day. So essentially, it's making a list when you're having a good day of things that are helping you so you can go back to that list. It's already ready for you when you're having a hard day. Number two, rate my values from a worksheet. So values work is really amazing for. For our mental health.

I think I have a video on how to make your core values. But essentially your core values are about 3 to 5 different values or concepts that we live by. And there are ways that we can kind of check in on ourselves around, like, am I living in accordance with these values? And if I'm having a hard time, maybe it's because I'm not living through my values. So core values number three, and this is a quote someone's therapist gave them. Let grief give you grace to understand that it is grief that helps you truly love.

This person said, what sparks the most joy is what you should be seeking to do more of. I love that. So thinking about things that spark joy already for you is an indication of a direction to go. This person says, maybe try to approach those thoughts with curiosity rather than judgment. I love that. That's an excellent mindfulness, Zen Buddhist way of looking at things. Here's another quote from a therapist. Love doesn't go away overnight, but wisdom teaches us we deserve better. I love that, especially if we're grieving a relationship or going through heartbreak.

I think that's phenomenal. This person's therapist said to them, no decision is final. There's always another decision that can be made. There's only one decision that is final. Everything else you can come back from. I think that one's my favorite. This one says two truths can exist at the same time. It doesn't have to be an either or situation. This is another amazing dialectical thing where there's a both and so, like in dialectics, we think about how it can be rainy and sunny at the same time.

Even though those two things don't feel like they should be happening together, two things can coexist that don't seem to go together. I'd love to know if you have any amazing things that therapists have shared with you or advice therapists have given you in the comments. It's always lovely to hear what other people have learned, and it's also really beautiful too, to see that other people are learning really similar things to us, because it's amazing to be able to grow together. I hope that these were helpful and I will see you next time.
