Join Alyssa from St. Croix Hospice as she talks about symptoms of caregiver burnout.
Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion. Stressed caregivers may experience fatigue, anxiety and depression. The biggest thing you want to pay attention to when you are starting to feel burnt out is to avoid it.
Today, I'm going to share with you a little bit about what caregiver burnout is. Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion. Stressed caregivers may experience fatigue, anxiety and depression. Caregivers may neglect their own needs and have feelings of guilt for spending time on themselves. I'm Alyssa Griffey, and I am the manager of bereavement services with St. Croix Hospice. In this video, we're going to talk a little bit more about symptoms of caregiver burnout.
The first thing withdrawal from friends and family or the loss of interest of activities. Second, changes in appetite, weight, or even both. Maybe you start to eat more and you're losing weight. Or you can't stop yourself from binge eating. Three, feeling blue, irritable, hopeless, or even helpless. That's another symptom of caregiver burnout. Four, emotional physical exhaustion, changes in your sleep patterns that could be sleeping too much or not getting enough sleep. Five, a weakened immune system getting sick more frequently.
Maybe you're the one that just can't get out of bed and you have stomachaches or feeling nauseous all the time. Six, feelings of wanting to hurt yourself or the person for whom you are caring for. That is the biggest thing you want to pay attention to when you are starting to feel burnt out. Let's watch that next video in order to avoid this caregiver burnout.
