  1. 0:04Alec Dewitts: Consistency is key to success in life

Do hard stuff is not something that you jump into right away. Consistency is the key to success in life, in all areas of life, especially working out. A lot of times we just want something quickly. Life is a marathon. It's not a sprint.

  2. 2:47If you can be consistent with something for three weeks, it becomes a habit

If you can be consistent with something for three weeks, you've now turned it into a habit. You must be consistent at the basic things. Starting at that base level and working from there is the key to getting started with doing hard stuff.

What is up, Cadresphere? It's Alec Dewitts. This is my first live in a long time, and this is going to be my segment called do hard stuff with Dewitts. I'm going to wait and see if people are going to join in here. Cool. Well, welcome. This is the first segment today. I just want to start off very lightly because doing hard stuff is not something that you jump into right away. A lot of times you're looking at. We've brought up examples like David Goggins in the past. People like whoever some other hard people are, if you want to drop them in the chat below, they're on the far extremes of life.

They're doing things, you know, off the deep end where, like, a lot of. A lot of people just can't handle that type of hard stuff. And a lot of times you need to start off very slowly. And one of the things that you really need to start with is consistency. Something that I've struggled with in the past has been consistently going to the gym. Every thought leader, every influencer, everybody in fitness says consistency is key. Consistency is the key to success in life, in all areas of life, especially working out.

And I would 100% agree with this. A lot of times we just want something quickly. We want success to come very fast. We're not willing to wait for it, we're not willing to be patient for it. And life is a marathon. It's not a sprint, as much as we want it to be sometimes we want to hit those goals, we want to hit those weight goals. We want to gain muscle, we want to lose weight, we want to feel great, and we want to diet, because dieting is the key to solving the world's problems. That's what we were told 2030 years ago.

But I do want to talk about consistency, because if you can be consistent with something for three weeks, you've now turned it into a habit in your life. And I think it's five weeks now, is the science that turns it into a lifestyle. And that habit turning into a lifestyle turning into. If you miss going to the gym, you miss eating healthy, you actually feel bad about it. Like you, like, those rest days are like the hardest days of the week for me, specifically. I've been going pretty consistently to the gym every single day for the past two and a half months now.

And I was very fortunate to have a group of friends that we would go to the gym every single day. We have a group chat, we just say, all right, gym at four today. Let's go gym at 430 today. Let's go. And that accountability has really helped me to stay consistent in going to the gym every day. And so I encourage you to find your own accountability buddies, too, and maybe we'll talk more about accountability in the future. But doing hard stuff in order to get there, you must be consistent. You must be consistent at the basic things.

You must create a base level of in all areas of your life, whether that be fitness, nutrition, sleep, not drinking, not doing drugs, like whatever it is. You have to create that base level of discipline in order for you to take it to the next level in order to do those hard things. So that's something that I challenge you to do. And maybe it's only three days, maybe you can do a week. Maybe you can do three weeks. That's awesome. Three weeks from now, when we chat again, I'd love to hear where you guys are at.

I'll be doing this pretty consistently now. Try to do it every Saturday on our personal growth Saturdays. But, yeah, I challenge you to try something for just a few days. Going to the gym, whether it's going to the gym, choosing your own diet, not like a dieting plan. Like, I'm going to go on a diet and eat this amount of calories or whatever. Like choose a diet like no gluten, no dairy, no added sugars. I'm not going to get a candy bar. I'm not going to get a cookie with my meal. I'm going to set aside this food.

I'm going to cook my own meal for three days or a week or whatever it is, and I challenge you to try that out and see how that consistency works for you. And let's create this base level together, guys. And I want to take this to the next level with those who are interested, with those who are on board for doing hard stuff with dewitts. I would love to see you guys just take things to the next level. And if that's not what you're willing to do or not something that you're wanting to do at this time and it's just not a goal of yours, that's totally cool, too.

And we're all about that. We have plenty of other people on Cadre in the Cadre sphere that take things slowly. I do enjoy balance as well. I think balance is extremely important. But again, starting at that base level and working from there is the key to getting started with doing hard stuff. So I'm going to leave you with that short, quick, sweet, and we'll see you next time on in the Cadre sphere. So, see you guys.
