Weekly anecdotes and inspiration to help guide you in your quest to make all your big dreams come to life!
Today is actually the 9 October. I thought Wednesday was Friday this week, and I totally attempted to go live here on the platform and I missed the mark by two days. So anyway, hopefully somebody hops on here so I know that I'm in the right place at the right time.
Today there's a couple things on my mind from this week. I want to talk to you about how I sort of flipped the script on my own. And I also want to tell you about an acronym that I saw and loved and wanted to pass on to you guys. It's one on one today.
LZ: I've been waiting and waiting to hear back from the team about the national anthem. She says a wardrobe stylist told her how much she admired her work. LZ: The waiting game is the absolute worst.
Risa: I realized that her path is not my path. Her dots that are connecting are not my dots. I'm singing the national anthem at the Cubs versus Angels game. It's number 14 on my list of 14 huge things that I want to accomplish this year.
LZ: I encourage you to make sure something is true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, and kind before you put it out there. LZ: My videographer and photographer are coming to capture my process as well. I'm going to have it on my live stream on instagram. Thank you for being excited for me.
So thank you for being here, you guys. I hope you enjoyed this livestream. Happy super bowl weekend. Say hi to Gracie and all the doggies for me. I will see you same time, same place next week.
Good morning, Cadre family. It's actually Friday. Funny story. I thought Wednesday was Friday this week, and I totally attempted to go live here on the platform and I missed the mark by two days. Has that ever happened to you where you're just like, yeah, today is definitely Friday, or today is definitely Monday. What the heck? So anyway, today is truly Friday. Today is actually the 9 October. Oh, and on my notebook I even wrote January 9. That's how behind I am, you guys. I'm thinking it's January.
I'm thinking it's Wednesday or Friday. I don't even know what day it is. So anyway, hopefully somebody hops on here so I know that I'm in the right place at the right time and talking to at least one person today. But if not, that's no big deal. We're just gonna go for it. You guys can watch it back and laugh and hopefully, yeah, I'm not the only one who thinks like, today is whatever day speak, wonder what's up. Okay, we have an audience here, guys. All right. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad you're here.
And I'm so glad you look forward to my Friday lives and not my Wednesday mistake lives like I did this week. Okay, so we're here. I'm so excited to talk to you guys today. Clearly. I was so excited that I hopped out on Wednesday. Like, I even put it in the community feed. Like, yeah, see you in the live. And then it was like nobody showed up. I'm talking to myself. I don't think it actually even recorded. Oh my gosh, you guys. Okay, so anyway, today there's a couple things on my mind from this week.
I want to talk to you about how I sort of flipped the script on my own. Comparasitis, if you will. You've heard me talk about that if you've been here for a while, I want to talk to you about the outcome of my national anthem. And I want to talk to you about an acronym that I saw and loved and wanted to pass on to you guys. I have not reckoned with January being over either. Yeah. I can't believe it. In my notebook I was like, okay, 1724. That's what I wrote for my live stream this week. Well, the 7th was Wednesday and we are not in the month of one anymore.
Okay, so like, I am so confused. I better edit that because I go back and reference these journals. Okay, so even if it's just you and me speak wonder. It's one on one today. Hopefully some other people are on here, and if not, that's okay. All right, so this week, okay, a couple of things. I have been, like, waiting and waiting and waiting to hear back from the team about the national anthem. If you were on my live a couple of weeks ago, you saw that I just totally threw myself out to the wolves and saw an opportunity come up and grabbed it by the horns and was like, opportunity, you're coming with me.
And did this audition for a spring training game. And it has always been on my heart and on my goal list to sing the national anthem at a professional sports event. I used to sing it in college and high school, and it's just been a really long time. And I said something to somebody the other day. I was like, I kind of gave up on my dream for a while, but apparently my dream did not give up on me. And she, like, loved that. And so that was cool because, like, I had this just kind of, like, moment where I was like, I sort of put it on the back burner, right?
And sometimes, like, our dreams, they. They sort of. They sit on the sideline, but I never, like, let them get derailed. But I did sort of let this one go for a while. So, anyway, I've been waiting and waiting and waiting to hear back, and it's been over two weeks. And if you've ever auditioned for a play or a part in something, or if you've ever auditioned for anything at all, the waiting game is the absolute worst. You start thinking about all the things you could have done differently, all the things that you messed up on.
What could I have said to get in a little bit more with the person making the decision? I don't know. My brain was doing swirly whirly flips and mental gymnastics. So, anyway, all the while, I've just been on social media and constantly checking my email, and I saw that this girl, who is also a wardrobe stylist, she shall remain nameless. She is in the Los Angeles area. She dropped into my DM's one day and just sent me the nicest voice mode. Voice note, this is weeks ago. This is before the national anthem, but I promise I have a point.
And she voice noted me, telling me how much she looked up to me, how I was an expander for her, and how she just admires my work. And I was like, wow, that is so kind. Like, oftentimes it's competition over community in the Instagram space, and you see other people doing what you want to be doing, and you don't champion them you get jealous, and you talk about them behind their back to maybe one of your friends, and you're like, ugh, that person is, like, succeeding, and they're doing so well, and it's really bugging me.
I mean, if you haven't done that before, like, are you even human? And so I just loved her message. So I voice noted her back and was like, oh, my gosh, thank you so much. That was so kind. Like, nobody has ever called me an expander before. Like, wow, that's probably one of my favorite compliments ever. And I was like, you know, we should catch up on Zoom sometime, and we should totally, like, get to know each other and see if there's a way we can help each other. And she just, like, loved that.
And we were communicating back and forth, and we had set up a date, and then she got sick and had to cancel. And then I saw that she was working with a high level coach that costs a lot of money and started noticing, like, that she's kind of dripping into a community that I know quite well. And I was like, wow, she. It's interesting that she called me an expander. She's, like, surrounded by expanders. And I started, my brain started to go, like, hmm, well, do I want to sit down to coffee with this person?
Do I want to share anything about what I'm doing? She's got the best of the best at her fingertips. I sort of pulled back and became a little bit cautious, and I just, I was protecting myself because I've worked really hard to get to where I'm at ten years in. And then all of a sudden, like, on Monday, I think it was, or Tuesday, I saw that this person was featured in a publication that is international on the front page, talking about the work that she does in styling. And I was just like, ugh.
Ugh. Uh, uh. Right to the heart. Like, man, oh, man. I just was like, what is she doing calling me an expander? You know? All these, like, thoughts went through my head, like, she. She's the expander. She's the one progressing. She's doing so well. And it made no sense to me in my brain at that time why she came to me and went out of her way to tell me that she admires my work when she's, like, on the precipice of getting international press. And I really, like, thought about that for a minute, and I was feeling so discouraged.
I also was, like, waiting in the wings to hear back about my big dream, right? And I'm like, gosh, doesn't it feel that way when you watch other people around you? Like, win after win after win after win? And you guys, I've been at this, like I said, for a decade. I've been doing rescue kit for four years. We're still pre revenue. Like, I share all of this with you guys. This is the reality of my life, right? Like, this is. This is hard. It's all hard. We're all working on a goal, and we all have a dream, and then we're watching other people around us, like, hit home runs.
And it's like, you guys, I'm still sitting in the dugout sometimes is how it feels. So, anyway, part of my brain was like, you should sit and spiral right now. It's like, this shoulder was like, you. You need to spiral. And this shoulder, a couple minutes after spiraling, was like, you should congratulate her. Like, this girl is clearly striving for something right now. She poured herself out to you, told you that she looked up to you, and then she just got a huge win. And you are connected to her.
You're in now her circle. So Risa, a few years ago, would have probably ignored it and just let her, like, have her glory, but said nothing. And then Risa today was like, you need to drop into her DM's. You need to voice note her. And this is what I said. I said, so and so. I saw your press. I saw your piece. I'm so excited for you. I know how hard you're working, and I hope that you can look in the mirror now and see yourself as the expander, because I remember you telling me that you thought I was an expander, but you should see yourself as your own expander.
And it was like a moment where I sort of flipped the script for myself, which is really hard to do when you're feeling like total FoMo about what other people are accomplishing. But I did it. I'm super proud. It was really hard. But I also stepped back and was like, is this publication that she got featured in even on your vision board? No. I've never even said this publication's name out loud. It's not in my path, you guys. I realized that her path is not my path. Her dots that are connecting are not my dots.
I didn't want that publication. It's not on my vision board. Other things are on my vision board that is not on my vision board. So, like, it was a light bulb, brain blowing moment of, like, her path is not your path. You are not her. She is not you, her clients are not your clients. Like my clients are not hers. Whatever she is destined for is not my concern. I'm gonna just bless and move along, and I'm gonna congratulate her because I know that when I have a win, she'll drop in and congratulate me and we can cheer each other on as opposed to be each other's compassionate competitors.
So, anyway, I felt really proud of myself. And then later that night, I got the email that they chose me for the national anthem. And I had been waiting so patiently, and I felt like the universe was just holding on tight to tell me until they knew I could handle it with grace. My gosh, like, get a little grace Risa. And it felt so rewarding in that moment. And I would have been excited either way, but, like, after feeling like I totally flipped the script and I. I don't know, I just felt like I handled it with humility.
I felt like, what a win. So, anyway, all of that long story to say, say I'm singing the national anthem at the Cubs versus Angels game. It's a Saturday game, you guys. This is a huge win for me. It's been, like I said on my, like, list of goals in my head, and I finally wrote it down this year. See the power of writing things down. I finally wrote it down this year and it is coming true. In the first quarter of the year. It's number 14 on my list of 14 huge things that I want to accomplish this year.
I might not accomplish all of them. Some of them are incredibly lofty. You would have thought that this would have been my loftiest one. It's not. And it's happening. And the organizer that I was communicating with this week told me that it's a Saturday game versus the Cubs, that it's going to sell out. So I could be singing to 9000 people. So careful what you wish for because it just may come true. And if you're hanging out with me and you're on these calls, whatever you're wishing for is probably gonna come true because you are the company that you keep.
So that is, that is my update. That is my long winded story about how sweet that feels after feeling like I could have easily gone the other way with championing somebody else and realizing that my path is my path. So I came across this acronym, and I'll leave you with this and then I'll catch up on some of these comments. I saw this acronym called think, and it just got me, like, thinking about how we react to people, how we respond to people and, like, what we put out there. And I just loved this, so I'm gonna share it with you.
Think. T, is it true? H, is it helpful? I is it inspiring? N, is it necessary? And k, is it kind? And I encourage you to make sure something is true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, and kind before you put it out there. And when I was thinking about whether or not I was going to respond to this girl, like, if you don't have something kind and necessary and, like, uplifting and inspiring to say to somebody, go write in your journal, go talk to your therapist. Go call your mom or your best friend or the.
The person that you confide in the most. Maybe they're on this zoom today or this live stream today. Talk to your significant other, like, get it out somehow so you don't sit with it. But before you put it out to the person or out into the Internet or out into the world, really think about it. Are you spreading goodness? Are you spreading gossip? I just loved this acronym so much. So. Oh, my gosh. All right. So comparison. Oh, my gosh. Oh. Who doesn't struggle with comparison? Newfie lover. Sue.
Oh, my gosh. Do you have Newfoundland, sue? Have we. Have we not met before? I grew up next door to somebody who had a Newfoundland, and his name was Jedediah Blue. Such a crazy name, and I loved it. He was. He's so big. Oh, my gosh. But he was just a, like, big fluff bug. Your audition was audacious. Audacious. An audacious act of courage. Thank you. Speak, wonder. Flip the script. Oh, my gosh. Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Cheering over here. Jump. Joyful jumps. So, you guys, I am going to.
I'm going to record it. I'm going to have it on my live stream on instagram. I wonder if I could live stream it on Cadre. We'll have to figure that out. And my videographer and photographer are coming. They're gonna capture it, like, professionally and on social media, and I'm gonna just capture my process as well, because my mom and I are going to make a custom something. I don't want to say what yet, but we're gonna make something custom for me to wear, which is gonna be so super fun. So, of course, I'm gonna bring fashion into it.
Of course. And it's gonna be such a fun process. So thank you for being excited for me. I'm so, so excited. I started, like, practicing last night. I mean, I sing it all the time, but I'm starting to, like, really figure out, okay, what notes do I want to go up on? Like, where do I want to just, like, keep it standard, like, the whole thing? So I'll probably end up calling, like, a friend of mine who is a vocal coach just to, like, run it by them, just to make sure I don't blow it. Anyway, I've had three newfies over the years.
I have yellow labs now. Aw. Well, I have two labradoodles that are. One of them is really tearing apart his toy bucket right now, and the other one is laying down like a good boy. So you. If you come here often, you will hear the squeakers. You will see the romping. We keep it really dog friendly and real around here. So, anyway, I am so grateful that you guys tuned in. I'm so appreciative that I had a couple of people to share my great news with and just my little anecdote about, like, other people's paths not being your own.
Corgis are the best. Think wonder. Oh, my gosh. You're gonna need to put a picture of your corgi in the community feed, please. Those little fluffy tushies are just the cutest. Dempsey is tearing apart his little bed over here, so I'm sorry for the background noise, but. Or his little toy bin. Anyway, love myself some dog parents. We are. We are the best, and the dogs are the best. So thank you for being here, you guys, and I hope you enjoyed this livestream. I know that there's a lot coming down the pike and just been a lot of excitement and a new energy here on Cadre.
So I'm so grateful to you for always tuning in and just being so supportive and being a part of this incredible community. I've just, like, loved being a part of this community. So before Dempsey knocks over my camera, I'm gonna say goodbye and wish you the best weekend. Happy super bowl weekend. Go, everybody. Say hi to Gracie and all the doggies for me, and we will talk so soon. I will see you here same time, same place next week. Bye, guys.
