Kanji: We've got the dogs going a little wild over here. There was an office themed run in Scranton recently. I am so in for that run next year. Thank you guys for tuning in today.
Today I want to share with you the acronym for fear. Face everything and run. And then a story about how I'm facing my fear tomorrow. What are the things that we're doing to help chip away at our big dreams?
Cadre: Tomorrow, I am facing a fear, and it's not even really a fear. I have wanted to sing the national anthem at a national sporting event since college. Here's how I could have gotten myself out of this.
Phoenix Suns are looking for a national anthem singer for their spring training games. When we do things that we don't want to do, we are actually growing a part of our brain. The risk is so worth it.
Joe Bajoy challenges listeners to do anything they're scared of this year. Challenge includes singing the national anthem in front of a crowd. Share your experience on Instagram and share your wildest dreams.
Good morning. I'm gonna give it a second here. We've got dogs going crazy over here. Oh, gosh. We'll see how this goes. The dog party, you guys, is out of control. Okay, I'm gonna give one more second. Wait for everybody to come in, or anybody to come in, I should say. Or maybe I'm just gonna have a conversation with myself for this moment, and then people can watch it later. That's the beautiful thing about Kanji. Live streams. Good morning, junk food junkie. We've got. We've got the dogs going a little wild over here.
We're gonna hope that they calm down. Okay, guys, they're wrestling, and. Which is something I normally want all the time. And then, of course, the minute I go live, the chaos happens behind me. So, hey, we're gonna. We're gonna let them chill out for a second. The jaws of life are out. Speaker one, speak. Wonder Jopa Joy. Oh, my gosh. Good morning. The gang's all here. Okay, you guys, I'm gonna get right into it. We're gonna hope that these dogs just chill out. For those of you who haven't joined my lives on Fridays, the dog, the puppy, he's still new.
He's six months old tomorrow, which is so crazy. He's getting so big, and he is my little fireball. He's my little burst of energy. He's absolutely nuts. And I live for this normally. But of course, you know, you know, the vibe. So I can't crate him because he'll just bark. It's a whole thing. They have separation anxiety. I mean, like, it's just. Just. It's real life. I'm a dog, mom. Okay? Oh, yes, of course. I loved your 30 day challenge, obviously. Snowy day in northwest Pennsylvania. Okay, funny story about Pennsylvania.
Before I get into what I'm gonna talk to you guys about, I don't know who watches the office, but I saw that there was an office themed run in Scranton recently, or, like, nearby somewhere in Pennsylvania, assuming it was Scranton. And I was like, sign me up for that next year. So does. Has anybody ever heard of that? I saw it on instagram or something, and I was like, oh, I am so in for that run next year. I guess the costumes were epic. Snowing in Maryland, too. Oh, good. I love to hear where everybody's chiming in from.
What's up, Luke? Oh, my gosh. Okay, so speak. Wonder if you watch the office, look into that race. They just had the office themed race in Pennsylvania. I'm going to that next year. I'm going to dress up, I guess. The costumes were so epic. Somebody, like, strapped, like a garbage can onto them, like, hysterical. Anyway, thank you guys all for tuning in today. I have so much energy. I didn't really sleep that well because I just have so much energy. I. You guys, I want to talk to you today about the word fear, an acronym I have for fear.
And then a story about how I'm facing my fear tomorrow. And I think it always comes back to, obviously, you know, what are the things that we're doing to help chip away at our big dreams? That's always my message here, but I love sharing with you guys, like, my anecdotes and things that are happening in reality, like, in my real life day to day, because I live in this constant state of dream stasis where I'm always going after my big dreams. And I'm always, like, considering myself in that place of achieving that goal or that big dream or checking that thing off my bucket list.
And this year, I have my whiteboard in my, well, my house is like one big living room because it's so tiny, but I have my whiteboard just like, right, you know, 15ft away from me. And I stare at it every day and I'm. And I'm looking at it and I'm letting it sink in and soak in. So today I want to share with you, you've probably heard the acronym for fear. Face everything and run. F e a r. Sorry about the dogs, you guys. It's total chaos. So that's the old way. Face everything and run. We're not doing that here, okay?
We're not doing that. So we're going to face everything and risk. Face everything and risk. I have gotten over embarrassment, okay? Like, I'm just. That's gone. Got rid of that a couple years ago. But fear sometimes tends to creep in and, you know, I don't really get scared of a lot of things when it comes to taking risks or trying something new for my business or my life, but sometimes it tends to just kind of weasel its way right in there. So I'm thinking this acronym I'm going to live by, face everything in risk, and it's gonna help me get through these big challenges that I feel like might be in the way of some of my big dreams.
Okay, so I have a story for you. In regards to facing everything and risk, I have had a bucket list on my goals. A bucket list item forever. You guys, I'm gonna let the dogs out. Who let the dogs out? 1 second be right back. Come on, guys. Outside. Come on, come on. Quick, quick. Okay, I'm coming, you guys. I'm coming back. I mean, if you didn't sing that, who let the dogs song out loud with me? I mean, are we even friends? Just kidding. Okay, bye bye, dogs. Go play. All right, you guys, here's my bucket list item.
Okay. Tomorrow, I am facing a fear, and it's not even really a fear, but I have had on my list, and I'm only sharing with this. This with the Cadre family. I'm not sharing this on my instagram yet. You are the first to hear what I'm doing. So, back in the day, I've talked about this on here before. I was a cheerleader in college, and one of the reasons that I wanted to be a cheerleader at this particular school, Umaine, was because I wanted to get to sing the national anthem at all the sporting events.
My coach was the head of athletic promotions, and she got to choose all the events that happened at sporting events, and one of them was who got to sing the national anthem? So I've had this. Like, I sang it in high school for years, and then I went on to sing it in college. And for those of you who haven't been here before, I thought I was going to be a Broadway actress. I wanted to be a singer, and then I was in a car accident, and my life just shifted. But I always find a way to get back to the arts and to, I don't know, take out my rose gold microphone and sing to myself every night.
You guys. It's the true story. So, anyway, here's what happened. Well, first of all, there was an opportunity that came up, and I saw it on Facebook, and I'm never on Facebook, you guys, like, very rarely do I go on Facebook. It's usually Instagram. And I saw an opportunity pop up, and it was like, auditions for the national anthem. And I have wanted to sing the national anthem at a national sporting event since college. I was like, I will do this nationally for a national sports team. Now, in my mind, it was always, like, the NBA or something, because I love singing, like, in that type of arena.
But they made their way back in, but I think they're gonna calm down, but I don't know. I just knew that it would be something. And I've been manifesting it and writing it down, and it's on my. It's. It's, like, on my goals list for this year and haven't really said it out loud to anybody. But anyway, this. This audition pops up on Facebook from somebody that I know that I was on a board of directors with, and I was like, okay, face everything and either run or take a risk. And here's how I could have gotten myself out of this.
Here's how I could have talked myself out. What? Number one, I could have ignored the post, right? I mean, I could have ignored it and just been like, oh, that's so cool. Somebody's gonna get this really awesome opportunity. I mean, there's so many. It's for a spring. It's. Oh, did I tell you what it's for? It's for spring training game, okay? And spring training happens out here in Arizona, so I totally, totally left that out because I'm so excited. If you can't. If you can't feel the excitement and the nervousness and my sweaty palms through the phone, like, it's happening.
So, anyway, I was like, okay. I could just ignore this and be like, oh, somebody's gonna get the opportunity of a lifetime, you know? Like, or they're gonna be able to check something off their bucket list. Or some cute child who can sing from the theater is gonna get an opportunity, which happens a lot around here. Or, like, somebody who knows how to play the trumpet is gonna get to, like, perform their trumpet performance of the national. And, like, all these opportunities for other people started, like, rolling through my head, and then I was like, ugh, no, no.
I need to be one of those people. I was like, there is a reason I popped onto facebook. There's a reason this is happening, like, right in front of me. So, anyway, I could have the out. Could have been, I ignore the post. No big deal. But instead, I chose accountability. And I commented on this post and was like, I tagged my friend who was on the board of directors with me, who posted it, because he's in this charity group that it's their stadium. And I said, should I do it, Bill? No word. Here's the second way I could have gotten out of this.
They are accepting video submissions. So I could have said, oh, I'll just do, like, a video submission. That'll work. That'll be great. And then I was like, no, no. Can't do that. This. You have to be the energy of the national anthem. I don't know if any of you ever have ever sang it. I mean, that's kind of a random question, but the energy and the nerves that you feel when you're singing in front of a live crowd is, I mean, you. All of a sudden, you're hitting notes that you couldn't hit. Like, it's crazy.
So I was like, no, I am going to RSVP to this and I'm going to tell them that I'm going to be there. I was like, okay, so not only did I, like, post it on Facebook, but then I RSVP'd and I texted my friend and I said, I think I'm going to do this. And he said, I think you should do it. Why not? And he wasn't like, yeah, you're going to get it. Like, you know, he's on the group of organizers who's probably choosing who gets to do it. Maybe that helps me out, maybe it doesn't, who knows? But instead I put it on my calendar, I RSVP'd, and then I texted my friend, and I was like, okay, you guys, now I'm in.
Now I'm in it. Now I am singing the national anthem whether I like it or not, okay? And I. And I'm building my entire weekend around this big goal. Okay? All right. So the point of this story is, like, the risk, like, is more worth it to me than running, taking a risk on myself. If I didn't do this, well, this opportunity presents itself because this is my only foot in the door. I have tried to email the Phoenix suns. I know everybody over there and be like, hey, if you ever need a national anthem singer, but nobody's gonna think of me for that.
This is like a full blown audition where they're gonna choose somebody for their spring training games. There's a bunch of games at this stadium. They might choose multiple people for the entire season because I imagine that there's gonna be somebody singing it at every game and knowing that this was right in front of me. If I didn't take it, I would be developing a pattern of letting myself down. I would be starting a pattern of just being like, no, I'm gonna take the outer. But to me, letting myself off the hook like that, it's not worth it.
I don't want to be that person who lets himself off the hook. I want to take a risk. I want to prove to myself that no matter what, I'm willing to try. The risk is so worth it. Maybe it'll end in reward. And if it doesn't, talk about conquering a fear. Talk about facing everything and just, like, putting myself on the line. I don't want to run. I want to risk, because the risk might end in a reward. And you are risking failing yourself by letting yourself down if you don't take an opportunity like this.
I recently watched or listened to a podcast with Andrew Huberman where he talked about, and I'm going to butcher this, but he talked about the fact that when you do things you don't want to do that you're not conditioned to do. Like, for instance, for me, it would be like working out. I hate to work out. But Andrew Huberman has looked into the science behind. When we do things that we don't want to do, we are actually growing a part of our brain. It's like the prefrontalobal cortex, something or other.
I don't know. I'm not a brain doctor, and our brain is actually growing when we're doing things that we don't want to do. And if we are doing these things on a daily basis, something we hate, not something that you love, if you love to run every day, that's not gonna. That's not gonna exercise the part of your brain that needs to grow. I'm not saying that your brain's gonna shrink. I'm just saying that it's not gonna grow in a way that it would. If you chose to do something that you absolutely hated, if you hate to make your bed every day and you just want to, like, leave your room super messy, and you forced yourself to make your bed until you developed that habit and then moved on to something else that you hated, your brain is gonna continue to grow and grow and grow and grow and grow, and you're going to exercise part parts of your mind that you didn't even know you had.
When I think about things like this, you guys, I love to sing, maybe in the privacy of my own home or, like, you know, in a closed studio or whatever. This is scary to me because it's in front of a live audience of a bunch of people that could potentially be judging me. But it's. I don't love to do things that make me uncomfortable, if that makes sense. So this is going to make me very uncomfortable, but I'm excited to do it. And I'm just saying that might not be the best example of doing something that you don't want to do, but think about challenging yourself.
And I see fears as the kind of mental exercise that will no doubt get us one step closer to that big thing that we want to accomplish. So, that's my sermon today. m. I'm going to be pits sweating, palms so wet. I'm going to be. I'm gonna have to have an out of body experience, and you guys, you know, I'm gonna talk about it next Friday, so if you want to know how it went, you're gonna have to tune in next Friday, so I'm gonna catch up on some of these comments. Okay. Oh, my gosh. Okay, let's go back.
Let's go back. Let's go back. Holy cow. All right. Battery or a vacuum? Energy wise? Good way to start. Yes. Thanks, Luke. Okay, wait. Okay. All right, here we go. Oh, my gosh. The comments are flowing in, you guys. I love it. Wait, I saw something about Whitney Houston. Okay, hang on. We are your tribe. Thank you. The next best Whitney Houston. I love you guys. You have. Okay, Joe Bajoy, you've sung it out of game. The adrenaline is awesome. Oh, my gosh. Thank you. Okay. You can relate. You just kind of, like, flow out of your body.
It's so true. Like, when I used to sing and it was televised for hockey east tournaments at Umaine, I would have to walk out onto the ice. They would roll out a mat for me to walk on, and then there was, like, a section of the ice that wasn't matted. I was scared out of my mind. Not only was I gonna fall, but, like, I'm kind of obviously an emotive speaker and talker and singer. So I was worried I was gonna, like, make one move and, like, slip and fall on the ice. It was really scary. But, like, the adrenaline keeps you going.
You think you're gonna forget the words, but they come out of, like, the depths of your mind. So I'm so glad you can relate to that. I can see now all the baseball players there with the hats off on the field and the fans in the stands and you singing at home, play huge face. Yes. Singing in front of all that going on. I know, I know, I know. Let's put that in perspective for a second. Imagine doing something in front of all of these people giving a speech, or it's crazy, but if you can do something like that this year, I challenge you to.
I mean, the fact that, like, I may or may not get chosen for this. Okay. There might be a thousand people there auditioning. I don't know who's gonna audition for this. Maybe there's five, and my chances are good. But, like, if there's a thousand people who show up for this thing, like, my chances become smaller and smaller and smaller. And, like, I'm not singing the Whitney Houston version of the national anthem. I don't have a full band behind me. This is like acapella. I barely sing anymore. I only sing in my living room.
Like, I'm just gonna go and do it and hope for the best anyway. Risa risk is so amazing. The best acronym ever. Oh, my gosh. Okay. Yay. I'm so glad, you guys. Well, thank you so much. Anything you don't want to do is now scientifically backed as one of the best ways to grow your brain. Yes. It's so true. And when I heard that on the podcast, I was like, I am going to grow my brain so big this year. I don't know about you, but I had to attend a funeral for somebody that was my age the other day, and it really put things in perspective.
And he passed away from cancer, and he was a friend of a friend. I had met him on a few occasions, but my friend was looking for people to support her there, and I am so glad that I went. He was a fire captain in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the amount of people that showed up for him was unbelievable. But what I took the most from it was like he lived his life so big every single day, and everyone talked about that. And I think about this idea that, like, life is just going to pass you by if you don't grab it, take it, take opportunity, and do everything that you're scared of at all times.
It's such a gift to be able to do that, that we have our health, that we have a roof over our heads, that we have pets, and people who love us, surrounding us, and people who support us, and that we have this Cadre community that is cheering us on at all times? Like, I feel like I get to share things with you guys that I'm. I don't even share with my parents. I didn't even tell my parents about this yet. Because sometimes your chosen family is the safest place to be able to share your wildest dreams.
And aren't we glad and aren't we blessed that we have that here in this group? So, anyway, I can't thank you guys enough for tuning into this wildly energetic conversation this morning. I hope it inspires you, as always, to go out there and just crush it. Go. What's your national anthem? Okay. Go crush it and tune in next week to find out how it went, because I'm gonna share all about this next week and the experience and share things with you guys that I don't necessarily share on Instagram. Challenge yourself to conquer your fears.
Will always be so powerful for your mentality. Yes. I love you guys. I love you guys so much. Thank you for being my family and for cheering me on always. This is the safest place on the Internet. I will just go ahead and say that disclaimer. So thank you. I love you guys and I will see you soon. And stay tuned for national anthem recap next Friday. Cheers. Love you guys.
