Join me as we take steps toward actual change in your life!
Cadre family hopping on this live stream. I have a change in my employment coming up that's taking a lot of space in my mind. The possibility of something going wrong is often the root of our fear. But that obstacle is an opportunity to let things be different.
It can feel good to set up goals for ourselves, but can also set us up for reiterating identities, ideas, labels of ourselves that aren't fully true. What's something you can start today? Five minutes, ten minutes before the new year. Find something, do it wrong. Do it without a reason.
This is a hodgepodge of things that have been on my mind. If you're watching this after the fact, feel free to comment. What are some things that come up the most in transitions? I hope you all have a happy new year, and I'll talk to you next week.
What is going on? Cadre family hopping on this live stream. I had some technical difficulties that were on my end, and so I don't know if many saw that my live was going to be popping up today. So if you get a chance to join me, that's awesome. If not, I will be live again next week. And so today, I'll be honest, I was anticipating this live and kind of at a place of uncertainty about what to delve into. And I think with the chaos of the holidays and the new year and things like that, just been very much so existing in this place of responding every day responding and getting to a place where I don't have much planned.
Today, I want to be present. I want to let that be okay. I think sometimes we set ourselves up with expectations to be something beyond what we are. And it hurts. Maybe not hurts, but it's not easy to acknowledge that we maybe didn't do what we could have to prepare for something or plan for something. But as I hop on today, I feel the inclination to just be here and be authentic and be vulnerable. I have a change in my employment coming up that's taking a lot of space in my mind. And along this journey of this transition, there's been a lot of points that for whatever reason, fear has come up in my life.
A lot of fear, specifically financial fear, not having a lot of extra to bridge the gap in employment and income and things, things like that. And I found myself pushing up against this bubble that seems to be there constantly. And just then, this idea of a person pushing against a tree in the wilderness, trying to knock it over, comes to mind. And I could stand there my whole life and push it and nudge it and hit it and kick it, and it might not move a thing or do a thing. Maybe a branch will fall eventually and hopefully not hit me on the head.
But the solution to that problem, when a tree stands in our path, or what we thought was our path, is not to keep pushing the tree, but look to what our other options are, the way in which we framed our environment. I think for me, it's been an opportunity to truly practice letting go, to taking away some of the power. My mind that likes to think three, four, five steps ahead and saying, hold on a second, hold on a second. The future is yet to be determined, and my actions and attention go in the direction that doesn't support what I want to have happen when all I am focused on is the possibility catastrophe.
But let's think about that for a second. The possibility of something going wrong is often the root of our fear. And yet, you and I know from life experience that even in the midst of the things that go wrong are often the things that contribute to the most needed changes in our lives. And so now I'm faced with the circumstance that is, on one hand, either things don't go wrong, and I had nothing to worry about in the first place. Or secondly, something does go wrong. An obstacle enters my way. But that obstacle is an opportunity.
It's a chance to face something that my fear has told me is out of my bounds. That's a valuable experience. The difficulty and struggle of it all, our perspective of what those obstacles mean in our lives, have an influence over how open we are to facing them. Can I choose to look at that obstacle, to take a step into uncertain territory, to let things be out of my control and take action on what the next right thing is? As I'm showing up here today, I hope that that's relatable. I know for me, it's something that feels incredibly human, especially when money is involved for some reason.
It's a tender point in the human spirit and mind, but also an opportunity to let things be different, to let those things that we always wish would change, to actually create an opportunity for it. I hope you all have a great new year. And stepping into the new year, you know what I would encourage you to do? You know, it can feel good to set up these goals for ourselves, but can also set us up for reiterating identities, ideas, labels of ourselves that aren't fully true. What's something you can start today?
Five minutes, ten minutes before the new year. Particularly because it's not the new year yet for me. Recently it's been sewing, I've been learning how to sew, and it was something I always said, you know, maybe next year, right? Maybe once I have a little bit more time on my hands. And then I would catch myself watching tv and be like, well, I just need to relax right now. Turns out what I was afraid of was doing it wrong. Turns out that when I tried that sewing for the first time, I did it wrong.
But I loved it. It was fun. Find something, do it wrong. Do it without a reason, like the new year. Do it to be curious. That concludes my time here. I know I kind of hit a couple different things in this live stream, as it's a hodgepodge of things that have been on my mind, maybe floating underneath the surface. If you're watching this after the fact, you know, feel free to comment. Like what? Either a what's one thing that has always kind of been there that you've wanted to try or make room for learning that just have always been, there's always been a reason not to right or waiting for the right reason to do it.
I'm curious to see what other people have that come up for them in that. And then, secondly, if you're like me and human and facing changes, transitions in your life, what are some things that come up the most in those transitions, and what are some ways that you found you've been able to face those transitions and be open to what is to come? What's that point that allows you to open up to what's to come? I hope you all have a happy new year, and I'll talk to you next week. Take care. And five second finish.
Three, two, one.
