Join me every week for real time anecdotes inspiring you to make your big dreams come true!
Good morning. Was just talking for the last two minutes. Realized the live stream wasn't going. If that doesn't surmise my week, I don't know what does.
Risa: It's been a really hard week for me. Things that are out of my control that I can't fix. But I woke up this morning to a direct message from somebody from my high school. She apologized for not being the most easy person to deal with. There's a huge difference between good control and bad control.
You have to take some accountability. What do you need to resolve with somebody to get rid of the roadblocks on the way to making all of your big dreams come true? If this inspires you to go out and clear the air with one person, I would love to hear about it.
Good morning. I wanted to give it a second. Was just talking for the last two minutes. Realized the live stream wasn't going. If that doesn't surmise my week, I don't know what does. You guys. Hi, it is Friday, and like always, I am here talking about making your big dreams come true. However, I was just to nobody, making an analogy about how well, normally I have a notebook of notes planned and I know exactly what I'm going to talk about to you guys. And, you know, something happened in my work week, that week, that inspires me to share with you and teaches me a lesson.
And the download for my lesson literally came in when I woke up this morning. So I don't have a notebook full of notes. And I'm just going to speak to you from my heart because this one hit pretty heavily. And I think there's, like, a lot of things that I could potentially unpack in this messaging. But, you know, it's been a really hard week for me. Like, uphill battles, things that are out of my control that I can't fix, which. One of the things that I hate as a Virgo and just as somebody who likes control is when things are not in my hands.
It sends me. It just sends me into a spiral because I try so hard to operate with integrity and to have full control over what's happening with what's put out there in my name, the work that I do, just everything. And I have been tested to the limit this week just with things not being in my control. And when that happens and when you feel like you have roadblock after roadblock after roadblock, it's really hard to focus on. Yeah, but my big dreams are gonna come true this week, and I'm doing it.
I mean, like, let's call a spade a spade. There are so many times when I feel like, no big dreams, you're just gonna. You're not happening this week. And there are things that just come up that derail you. And I've talked a lot about getting derailed and don't let anything derail you, but there are going to be moments when your big dreams are just. They seem like an afterthought, when you have some bigger problems going on. But I woke up this morning to a direct message from somebody from my high school, and I've talked a little bit on here about getting bullied in high school and people treating me terribly even after high school.
Like, I tried to plan my ten year reunion because I was a class secretary and I got kind of forced into planning it. And then everyone, like, turned against me in my ten year reunion. Okay, this is ten years after high school. I mean, you can't make this stuff up. Where I'm from, it ain't no hallmark movie. Okay? So anyway, this girl that, I had no idea why she hated me, but, like, through the grapevine and, like, going home for thanksgivings, you know, in my twenties and thirties, I had heard that this person hated me.
We were best friends in high school. Anyway, I have not talked to her in 25 years. And I got a direct message from her and she basically broke down. Why? She apologized to me. She said my feed came across her page and she saw what I was doing and what I had been through with my car accident and how hard that must have been. And she apologized for not being the most easy person to deal with in high school. And she also told me why she didn't like me. And this is where, like, it really hit home for me.
And sharing this is really hard because I pride myself on being, you know, anti bullying and such a good person and, you know, but who we were in high school doesn't necessarily reflect who we are today and the work that we've done. But she said that a friend of mine and me told her at her house, I guess the things that we didn't like about her now 42 year old Risa would be like, you go, girl. But in high school, that can be really, really hurtful. And I take full responsibility for treating her badly and telling her the things that maybe would hurt her.
And why did I need to tell her that? I have no idea. Hurt people hurt people. And I think I was hurting so, so badly that any chance I had to have the upper hand, my ego got the best of me. Any chance I could tell somebody else what they were doing wrong, I felt in control. And it all comes back to this control thing. Like, I'm in power. I have full responsibility for how I'm behaving, how I'm acting, and how I'm making this person feel. And, well, there's a huge difference between good control and bad control, I think.
But in that moment, I hurt her so badly that she never wanted to talk to me again. And it ruined the rest of her year. I mean, to get that message this morning, all I could feel was humbled and so grateful that she told me because I wondered for so many years why I never heard from this person again. And I knew she didn't like me, so I didn't want to reach out to her. I'm like, I'm not putting myself in that position to be like, hi, why don't you like me? I'm just going to move on from it, right?
I've got my own healing to do. I've been through enough. But when you are seeking power and your ego is seeking power, it never leads to good things, ever. And you have to be so mindful and careful about what you say to people and how you treat them because you never know how that person is going to resurface back in your life in 1020, 30, 40 years. And let me tell you something. Like a lot of my personal brand is rooted in how I treat people. I mean, without a doubt, I pride myself on that because I've been on the other side.
So to get this message. But all she wanted to do was clear the air, apologize, say to me how hard it must have been through what I had been through after high school with my car accident, emotionally, mentally, all the things physically, and say, it looks like you're doing really great things, and I'm really happy for you, and I wish you nothing but the best. And it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders that I had been carrying around for 25 years. And I'm sure that somebody out there that's watching this has somebody that they're seeking an apology from or that they need to give an apology to.
And I wrote her back, thanked her profusely, said, there's probably a lot to unpack here, but first of all, thank you. And I am so sorry. You know, I never want somebody to feel hurt by me, ever. But it's bound to happen, right? And all you can do is say I messed up. Your feelings are valid. I hear you, and I am so sorry. And then if you want to talk about this further, I told her, I said, if you ever want to unpack anything, or if you just want to say something to me to get off your chest, I'm always here.
I'm going to catch up on this. Luke. Only way I miss burning, bleeding, barfing soap up to. Oh, my gosh. Luke, are you okay? I hope you're okay. Oh, my gosh. You're not really sick, are you? Oh, Marissa. Hi. I'm so glad you're here. So, anyway, this message was, like, earth shattering to me. And it was such a good reminder that what you say to people really, truly matters. Be careful what you put out there. Whether that's on the Internet, in an email, in a voice note. Everyone has the ability to capture you in every way, shape and form.
I'm realizing this hard lesson this week that my words have been twisted by someone, and I'm trying to deal with that right now. And, you know, you can only, like, pass so much responsibility on to the other person. Like, there's. You have to take some accountability. Luke always talks about blame, claim, or shame. You know, you have to just, like, own up to, like, where you're at and what you've done. And, you know, also, like, when people misconstrue things, you know, there is a certain level of defense that you need to have for yourself.
But I'm just learning that, like, in this digital age and even back in the nineties, people remember and the world remembers. And are you proud of the. Of person that you are, how you treat people, what you say to them, what you say about them? Are you spending time gossiping? Are you spending time talking about other people? Or are you spending time putting good out into the world? And I really was reminded today that this person might not be the only person who was hurt by me. So if there's anybody else out there watching this, please reach out.
I am an open book. I am here for you. I would love to own up to my mistakes. God, there would be nothing that would feel better than owning up to my mistakes from 1999. Okay. And closing the book on that. And if only everyone were as brave as this person, maybe none of us would have any enemies. So my message to you today is, what do you need to resolve with somebody to get rid of the roadblocks on the way to making all of your big dreams come true? Because I can guarantee you, when you take some of that stuff off of your plate and get it out of your way, the road becomes a lot clearer for the things that really matter.
And to me, it's working toward my big goal of having a household name company. So Dempsey says hi. He's my little couch dog, and he's my therapy dog. He's my snuggle bunny. So whoever your snuggle bunny is, hold on to them tightly. I hope that this message resonated with you guys, and I hope that it brings you into the weekend and into the holiday season, letting go of some things, clearing the air, letting go of your ego, and just operating with kindness and an open heart. So I love you guys. Happy holidays.
I will see you here every Friday this month. And then it's the end of 2023. It's blowing my mind. I love you. Make all your big dreams come true today. Go out and do one thing that scares you or makes you super uncomfortable. I'm about to have a bunch of uncomfortable conversations today with random people because this message inspired me so much to go out and make contact with certain people that I might be holding on to some things with. So, anyway, let's freaking go. I love you guys. Thanks for tuning in.
Luke and Marissa and to whoever else out there watches this. If this inspires you to go out and solve one problem or clear the air with one person, I would love to hear about it in the community feed or on Instagram or wherever you want to find me, I'm fully available. Like I said to everybody, or if you just want to complain about, you know, the way somebody treated you in the past, I'm here for that, too. But I encourage you to solve that problem with them if you can. So, love you guys. Go out there and like Luke said, go get scared.
Go get uncomfortable. Go solve a problem for yourself or someone else and just, you know, operate with no fear, no embarrassment, and no remorse, and just get it done. Get it done. Love you guys.
