Weekly anecdotes and inspiration to help guide you in your quest to make all your big dreams come to life!
Good morning, everybody. I've got all my therapy dogs with me today. It has to do with mental health and making our big dreams come true. We're gonna hope that the dogs are on their best behavior this morning.
Marissa Mayer: I am in a season of total overwhelm. She says there's a lot of things that you need to be navigating in this time. What do you do to get out of it? Mayer: One of my favorite things is to look at the roses in your life.
Dempsey says she is cutting anything that makes her feel anxious. She is also calling people that are her safe place to land multiple times a day. Now is the time for a therapist, she says. Dempsey: Live authentically. Use the tools inside of you.
I hope that this is helpful. Google calendar is my final safety net. I am singing the national anthem on March 16 at a Cubs versus Anaheim Angels game. Should I livestream it as my, as my live on Saturday the 16th?
I have a crazy day today. Let me know in the community feed if there's anything else you want me to talk about. I'm going to check out your Tuesday's food for thought. And thank you guys for being here. Happy Friday.
Good morning, everybody. I've got all my therapy dogs with me today. I've got one down here and one back there. Give it a second to see if anyone pops in. Got Dempsey paw patrolling in the window. Good morning, junk food junkie. Oh, my goodness. Okay, we're getting going, guys. I, like, chopped my hair. I went super blonde. What is happening? I'm gonna talk about that in my life stream. Trust me. It has to do with mental health and making our big dreams come true. Good morning, junk food junkie.
We're gonna hope that the dogs are on their best behavior this morning. They haven't had a lot of exercise, and the rubber chicken is already going. But the squeaker came out of the chicken. You guys, it wouldn't be a day with me if there weren't. If there wasn't, like, some dog chaos happening. Okay, come here. All right, so today I want to talk to you guys about navigating overwhelm while you're working on your big dreams. Because let's face it, not everything is sunshine and roses that I want to talk about.
I mean, obviously, there's always a little anecdote about, like, what's happening in my life, and, hey. And right now, it's, I am in a season of total overwhelm. And it's almost one of those things where it's like, okay, careful what you wish for. Careful what you ask the universe for, because you are going to get inundated with it. If you are in the space to receive. And I am inundated with clients and things, I'm gonna go through my whole list. But I want to talk to you guys today about what it's like to be in that space of total overwhelm.
Nikki, good morning. Great to see you. And then what do you do to get out of it? Because while we're navigating the biggest things in our life, we're in a season of could be overwhelmed. Like, I'm feeling. It could just be imbalanced. Whatever it is that you are working to achieve, it's probably taking a lot of your energy. People around you are probably feeling it, hey, come here. Come here. And they're probably. They're probably uncomfortable with what you're working on. And there's a lot of things that you need to be navigating in this time.
And I personally am in a place where I sometimes I just want to scream. I'm like, um, help me. I am solo. I am all alone. I'm trying to do everything by myself. I've got a chicken eating dog over here and rubber chickens flying everywhere. And then I've got my calm old man right here. So, anyway, a couple of things that I'm feeling lately, and maybe you can relate to this. I'm forgetting a lot. I'm, like, putting things on my calendar, and I know they exist. There's alerts, and I'm still forgetting to go to appointments and things.
I mean, has anybody been there? I'm feeling really stressed, and stress manifest. Manifests its way in my body in, like, weird ways. Illness, all the things, which is totally normal. I'm. I wouldn't say feuding, but I'm just gonna use that word. I know that's a little rhetoric going on there, but I'm having. I've had an altercation with a very close family member, and it feels very uncomfortable because we have never had an uncomfortable feud. And it is ruling my life right now, and it's ruling my emotions, and it's taking up brain space, and it's, like, crushing my soul.
I'm cancelling plans, even though I was supposed to be so intentional about my yeses in 2024 and putting myself out there, putting myself in the room for business events and literally was supposed to go to a new hotel, ribbon cutting and opening for a potential partner last night and was like, I don't want to go. And I've been looking forward to this event for the last month, and I just am mentally drained and did not go to this thing, and it could have repercussions for my business and potentially making one of my hotel partnership dreams come true.
What the heck? I have been overly emotional. I love emotions. I'm not usually, like. I'm not like, an everyday crier, but when I. When I'm in it to win it, you get a good cry out of me. I call my friends crying. It's like, it's a whole thing. I have just been so overly emotional, and it's. It's just killing me. And then I've also just been, like, a little reactionary. Usually I'm so good at pressing the pause button, and I've not been pressing the pause button lately and really thinking about where I'm at, just, like, mentally before having conversations with people, especially people who mean something to me.
So it's like, all of these things. I don't know if anyone can relate. Good morning, Marissa. One of my favorite things is while you're looking for the roses in your life, don't forget to look at the orchids that come along in your life. And appreciate their beauty like you would the roses. Yes. And orchids are my favorite flower. So I love that. It's so true. And it's like, that's great advice for when we are sort of in this state of panic and we are in this state of overwhelm, like, what do we do?
I feel like when I'm in this state, I'm torn because the people pleaser in me wants to chronically people, please and wants to go back into those tendencies. I want to say yes to everything. I want to be there for my friends who are like, please, please, please come to my husband's 40th birthday. I can't come to your husband's 40th birthday. I love you. It doesn't mean I love you any less. I have family in town. I have things going on. Like, I have got to realize my time is valuable. And, like, even though it means something to you, like, I really have to audit what it means for me.
So these are the things that I do when I'm feeling all of those ways. So if I am feuding with a family member, for instance, and they're trying to get a hold of me or have some kind of resolve, and I'm not there yet, I don't pick up the phone. How many times have you picked up the phone when you know you didn't want to and you weren't in the mental state to be the best version of yourself? Raise your hand. I am ignoring calls, and I am taking them on my own time. I'm calling the person back when I have collected myself and when I have eaten something and when I feel hydrated and when I feel like I have low stress in my body.
And that's when I approach a conversation with a person that I might not love in this moment. Love them to death, but I might not like them right now. So that is my tactic for when I'm dealing with people that I really need to make sure that I am controlling when the communication is happening. If I am forgetting things, I set extra timers, extra alarms. And then here is my pro tip. Here is my pro tip, you guys, for forgetting stuff. If it involves plans with somebody else, I am asking them to ping me again and multiple times.
You know how people just don't want to be bothered and they're like, I don't want to bother you. I don't want to annoy you. No, no, no, no. Send me all the text messages. Send me all the reminders. If you're willing to do that for me, I could really use it. Right now, I am in a season of overwhelm. So if I know that I have to drop something to a client, and I know that's my responsibility, but if I'm friendly with these people and I feel comfortable enough, I'll say, hey, can you ping me again tomorrow just to get it, like, top of my brain?
Would that be okay? And I know that that might make you feel like you look unorganized, but I think that they'll probably get some reassurance on their end too. So it's just, like, one more line of defense. And that is, like, my favorite pro tip is to put it back on the other people that you're doing things for paid, not paid, whatever. If it's taking your time and it's adding to your plate, get somebody else to ping you. Okay. All right. If I'm feeling, like, overly emotional and stressed, I am cutting anything that makes me feel anxious.
So you guys already know I'm living an alcohol free life right now. And thank goodness I say it almost every day. Thank God I don't drink right now. I can't imagine adding a toxin to my body in this, like, at this level of stress or anxiousness. I'm. I'm dressing about 20 people right now, and that's multiple things for multiple occasions. And I'm getting ready to give a speech. I'm about to travel. I'm leaving my dogs, which always makes me anxious. Like, oh, my gosh. So anything that adds to my anxiety, I am cutting it.
And that means, like, foods, like, extra sugar. I'm trying to cut back on my caffeine because that makes me a little bit anxious, but I love it. I'm making sure that I'm, like, on the flip side of that, like, doing all the extra self care, extra sauna blanketing, extra showers, extra baths, extra walks, like, really flipping the script on adding to my self care routine. Another thing that I'm doing is I'm calling people while I'm, like, controlling the phone calls with the people that I really have to manage my time with.
On the other side of that, I am calling people that are my safe place to land and that are grounding for me multiple times a day. I'm like, hi, it's me again. I'm still stressed, but just wanted to give you an update. My stress level has dropped from 90% to 80%. Thank you. Thank you for listening. Amazing. So I'm just, like, keeping those people top of mind. Come here, Dempsey. And I'm leaning on them. But also now is the time for a therapist. So if you are reverting back to your old ways and the tools are rusty and it's been a while and you feel like it's time for a refresh, you can't rely on those people all the time.
You need to give them some space, too. And you can't always be calling people stressed out about things. That's what a therapist is for. So get on board, book something through Cadre, tune into Cadre live streams, tune into Cadre content, and rely on your network around you for those tools, and go get professional help, because we can't put that kind of stress and pressure on our people, even though it's okay to rely on them and say, hey, listen, I'm like, you're a safe place to land for me. Can I call you this week?
Always ask their permission. And the other thing that I'm doing, and this is really important for me, and then I'll wrap it up, is speaking my truth. I am living an authentic life right now, and not everybody else is, and that's okay. But I am sharing my truth with people, and I'm saying, are you willing to listen to what I have to say about this? And I'm literally sharing them my exact truth. Come here, demps. And it might make them uncomfortable, and it might hurt them, and it might not feel good, and it might make our conversations uncomfortable, but the way that I deal with stress and pressure while I'm trying to make the biggest things happen in my life is to really lean into who I am.
Because we have all of the tools inside of us. Everything lies within us. We just have to use it, and we have to know who to lean on, to collaborate with, to bring out the best in us and to really be able to use those tools at maximum capacity. So if I don't speak my truth to people, I create a blockage in my throat and my throat chakra. It makes my throat sore. I mean, it manifests in your body if you don't live authentically. So figure out how to live authentically. And don't worry about those other people.
They're going to be uncomfortable. You're going to be holding a mirror up to them. Yes. Whole 30. Marissa, all the things. I love that you guys can relate. Danny, Parker, more. Yes, I love that you guys can relate. So, anyway, you know, if you've been here for a while, you hear me say, you know, to keep your boundaries strong, I feel so strongly about that. And the last thing is, is, and I said this in the beginning of the livestream, I was like, oh, you guys, I cut my hair and it's really blonde.
Another pro tip. Okay? And then we'll close with this. Don't do a big change in your appearance or your life if you're stressed. I really was not ready to cut my hair and go blonder and, like, it. It just stressed me out even more, especially before a speaking event. And it's like, fine, it's not a big deal. It's hair, but it's more than that. It's more than that. You know? Like, it goes a lot deeper than that. So, anyway, we've got, we've got the sounding bell over there. The dog is like, ding, ding, ding.
Time's up. The people are sick of you. Anyway, I love you guys. I hope that this is helpful. Google calendar is my final safety net. Yes. For reminders, you guys. Listen, I have the Google calendar, the iPhone calendar, the pad of paper, the checklist to do list. I mean, I got alarms, and it's like, it's really, like a state of mind for me. And also, like, for me, post accident, I lost so much memory and I really second guessed myself. So it's just a lot of, like, untraining my brain to, like, be stressed and anxious about what's on the calendar.
So, anyway, thank you guys for tuning in. As always, I will not be here next week. I will be out of town doing my speech. On this exact day. At this exact time, I will be speaking. So wish me luck. I'll try to get something else on the calendar, and I'll update my march schedule because I love seeing you guys and I love you being here. So, muah. Cheers. Happy Friday. Happy march March 1. Oh, my gosh. Where is the time going? Go enjoy your life. Go fulfill your dreams, and I will talk to you guys soon.
Oh, spring training. Wait, I've been wondering, now that spring training games are being played, did you get asked to sing the national anthem? Yes. Wait, didn't I tell you guys I am singing the national anthem on March 16 at a Cubs versus Anaheim Angels game? Yes. Oh, my gosh. I'll be going live before that, and I will be live streaming the anthem on my instagram. But I wonder if I should livestream it here, too. So is that something that you guys want? Should I livestream it as my, as my live on Saturday the 16th?
Yeah. So that is happening. I thought for sure I told you guys what is wrong with me? Yes. I actually had my first voice lesson yesterday, so I'm, like, getting back with a voice coach just to make sure I'm, like, really singing it in the right key, and then I can hit that really high note. Okay. And that I don't, like, hurt the people's ears. I thought for sure. I told you guys. Sometimes I get confused about what I tell instagram and what I tell Cadre. Most the time you guys get all the news here first, so, yes, it's happening.
Oh, my gosh. I thought. Yeah, I thought I told you guys here. I'm almost positive I did. Junk food junkie, did you miss one of my lives? Am I gonna call you out right now? Just kidding. I know you're at all of them. I don't know. I thought for sure. I told you guys. Oh, yeah. It's gonna be a whole thing. I'm like, I've got, like, 50 friends and family coming. It's crazy, crazy. Sometimes I'm like, what did I sign up for? But, no, it's gonna be awesome. It's like. It's a scary, scary, amazing thing.
We've got welly here, you guys. We've got welly right here. Therapy dogs. All the dogs you guys got. Crazy puppy right back here. Anyway, yeah. So I'll talk more about that as we get closer. March 16. I'm sure that's gonna be the topic of my live stream right before I sing Tuesday's food for thought this week. I mentioned you. Okay, I will go check that out. Oh, my gosh. Thank you. I love you so much. Amazing. Okay, well, I don't want to keep you guys any longer. I have a crazy day today. It's gonna be just a wild day of, like, getting things done, vip appearances.
Welly, do you want to say goodbye to all your friends? Yes. Just no. All the. Oh, we got Debsy. We got all the dogs. Everybody's saying hi, you guys. Everybody's saying hi, all. All the dogs. Oh, my gosh. I love you guys so much. This makes my week every week. So let me know in the community feed if there's anything else you want me to talk about. I'm going to check out your Tuesday's food for thought. Junk food junkie. And thank you guys for being here. Happy Friday.
