Join me every week for real time anecdotes inspiring you to make your big dreams come true!
Good morning. Hi, Duncie. Got my notebook, and I think we are officially live. Let's hope my small one behaves. You never know what you're gonna get in this household.
Alec: How is it almost thanksgiving? I usually spend some of it alone. My message today is a little bit of the FOMo message. We're inundated with things that are going on around us. There's a reason why you're not in some of those rooms.
FoMo would have loved to have been at the Cadre wellness summit. It's okay sometimes to miss out on things, and it means that you get an opportunity to work on something that maybe was on the back burner for yourself. I will see you guys next week.
Good morning. I'm gonna give it a minute to see if anyone pops on. I've got all my dog friends here. Let's hope my small one behaves. Here he comes. You never know what you're gonna get in this household. Hi, Duncie. Got my notebook, and I think we are officially live. Good morning, everybody. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. How is it almost thanksgiving? I cannot even believe that we are almost at the end of 2023 when my Christmas tree goes up, which it normally does on November 1, but I had to be a couple days delayed this year when my Christmas tree goes up and I start getting organized for holidays, I host thanksgiving, so I get really excited just because this time of year just feels really cozy and magical.
And I know the holidays bring up a lot of hard things for people, but. And for me included, too, I usually spend, you know, some of it, like, alone. I wake up alone on Christmas day. I have been doing that for years, and, I don't know, I've just been able to find, like, the joy and the beauty in that. So whatever your situation may be, I hope you can find the joy and the beauty in this time of year. But that's not what my message is about today. My message today is a little bit of the FOMo message and a little bit of feeling like.
Like you can't attend something or you can't be a part of something, and, like, how that feels when you're working toward making your big dreams come true. We're inundated with things that are going on around us, and it's hard to not be at all of them. For instance, I would have loved to have been at the Cadre Wellness summit. I am in a very busy season of work right now, and I have a new puppy. It's really hard for me to just hop on a plane like I used to be able to do and show up places, but it also means that I'm missing out on being in the room with really special people.
I'm missing out on networking opportunities, and I'm missing out on potential life changing experiences. And I found myself having a lot of fomo lately, and I'm not normally a Fomo person. I'm normally paving my own way. I don't really care what other people are doing. I used to, but now that I've done the work, I don't anymore. But lately, I felt like, ugh, I really wish I could be here or there. And I've also found myself saying, like, I really can't afford that. And whether it's a mastermind, a conference, a special event.
Like, I've been saying to myself, like, I can't afford that. I can't afford that. I can't afford that. And I've kind of been living in this, like, scarcity mindset, but I think what I'm learning is that I need to reframe. I can't afford that to. That isn't for me right now, or I'm not supposed to be in that room right now and sort of changing and reframing how I view the things that I'm missing out on. And here's why. I think oftentimes we feel this, like, deep disappointment around being left out.
But I do think that the universe, or whoever you think is guiding your path, or whatever you think is guiding your path, they have a plan for you. There is a plan for you, and there's a reason why you're not in some of those rooms. And I've been experiencing, like, the very clear lessons lately of the whys. I've had to miss a lot of things, but I'm almost gonna change that, too. I've. I've gotten to miss a lot of things because what has happened in on the flip side of that, and had I been at those places, I would have missed x.
And I think if we can start thinking about these things that we're not attending or that we're not able to be at, or that we're just not in attendance at, if we can start reframing that to think about why and where we were and the magic that happened while we were in the place that we were at. Yesterday, I gave a podcast interview. Hi, Alec. How are you? I love you. Yesterday I did a podcast interview, and my interviewer is almost ten years younger than me. She's, like, nine years younger. And she was, like, talking about how all of her friends are married with kids, and she doesn't really get invited places.
And I firmly believe the reason why. And I if I wasn't a few years ahead of her and just having gone through that same experience because I'm single, all my friends are married. Trust me. I'm 42. All my friends are married. If I hadn't had experienced that myself at her age, and even now, I don't think I would have said anything. I just would have, you know, maybe said, oh, that's really hard. But I was like, can I just tell you why I think that might be okay for you? Or, you know, I asked her if I could, which you always want to do, you don't just want to be like, well, I'm older than you, so I know, and let me tell you.
And she was like, yeah, tell me, you know, what's your perspective? And I was like, I honestly think that God or the universe are preparing you to carve out your own path. And when I spent a lot of time with my sister and her married friends when I first moved here, and I really, honestly believe that I was so focused on feeling like I belonged with my sister and her friends because I didn't have my own group of friends that I think I missed out on an opportunity to carve my own path and really surround myself with the type of people that were going to serve me at that time in my life.
And I think with her. She's just launched this podcast. She's just gotten out of a really toxic relationship. She's finding out who she is. She's doing therapy, she's doing the work, she's restarting her life. She has just put the key in the ignition, and she is turning the key. And I think oftentimes we think, like, well, this is where everybody else is at in their life, so I need to be there, too. But if we can reframe that and say, it's great, I have my married friends, I can spend some one on one time with them if I want to and really schedule that.
But the more we obsess about being on other people's path and in that group, the less time we spend carving out our own path and realizing what could be available for us in our own journey. And yes, we're always going to feel some semblance of FOMo, but I think if we can reframe that to say, hi, Luke. I think if we can reframe that to say, it's okay that I'm not with those people, they're always available to me when I want to see them. I'm not getting invited, maybe because I'm not supposed to be invited.
And do I even really want to go to the boring backyard barbecue in the neighborhood with a bunch of married people and their kids while I could be home, like, plotting my future? Or I could be, you know, ingesting something amazing. Remember how I always refer to your inputs? Ingest new, positive, useful tools when you're at that neighborhood backyard barbecue with all the families? Are you ingesting new, positive, useful tools, or are you just, like, babysitting somebody else's kids that day? I think we need to start reframing our alone time as opportunistic and the fact that we're not in the room because we're not supposed to be in the room at that point in time, the room is always going to be there for us.
Maybe we might miss one event, but the hypothetical room is always going to be there for us for the taking. But God and the universe are not putting you in that room for a reason. It's because you have to work on yourself. So my question that I posed to you before I say goodbye for the weekend is, what are you getting to skip? What are you getting to skip? So you can get to the next level in making your big dreams come true. And then what are you doing with that time? And when you pull back the curtain on some of these big rooms or some of the neighborhood backyard barbecues with all the married people.
No offense. Married people. Okay, no offense. This is just an example that I used with one of my single friends. When you pull back the curtain on some of those things, everything is not always as it seems. So sometimes, before you even want to get in the room, maybe do a little bit of research, maybe talk to some other people who have been in the room and see if you can get the curtain pulled back a little bit. Because the minute you do, I think you start to realize that, wow, I'm actually really glad I wasn't in that room.
So start reframing those situations as I get to miss this. And it's for me, and it's the best thing that could ever happen for me because I know that I'm on my path, and those types of events could potentially distract you or they maybe just aren't meant for you at that moment in time. So, anyway. But I do know that I would have loved to have been in the room at the Cadre wellness summit I was watching with major FoMo. And that's the beautiful thing about social media, is that you can feel like you're in the room, you can feel the energy, and you can cheer your friends on from afar.
And, you know, I know that I'll be at the next one. And I think because of the season of work that I'm in, I was supposed to stay right here with my babies, with my dogs, putting together Ikea furniture, all the things, working on, you know, my big plans for the fall, staying focused on work. But I know I want to be in the room for the next one. So it's okay sometimes to miss out on things, and it means that you get an opportunity to work on something that maybe was on the back burner for yourself or that maybe needs to stay at the forefront of what your big dreams are and your big plans are so.
I love it. Lyop. What's Lyop? I don't know what that is. Love you guys so much. Oh, we live your own path. There we go. Okay. Live your own path. I love that. I love it. I'm like, what's Lyop? Yop. I love you guys so much. Thank you for being here. Luke and Alec Dempsey says hi. Welly says hi. All the dogs are here and I wish there was like a camera in the room for the wellness summit. I would have loved to have been there. Congratulations to you guys for executing an awesome event. I heard so many great things and I can't wait to be at the next one.
And please enjoy this little puppy who thinks he's a cat behind me. I will see you guys next week. Even though thanksgiving is on Thursday, I am still going to go live on that Friday. So I hope you can join me and we can just talk about the gratitude we feel at this time of year. And, yeah, I hope you guys have an amazing weekend. Alex says hi to the dogs. They're just being crazy. Love you guys. Have a great weekend.
