Chapters

  1. 0:12Opening song and reflection

The video opens with the host reading lines from Angie McMahon's 'Letting Go' and briefly reflecting on the song's comforting refrain. This sets a gentle tone and introduces the theme that life isn't scripted.

  2. 1:07Host introduction and frame

The speaker explains the intention behind the Cadre content, emphasizing diverse ways to be well, then personally welcomes viewers and introduces themselves as JC. This orients new listeners to the series and speaker.

  3. 1:33Question: work versus rest

The central question—do you work harder at work or at rest—is presented and unpacked using language and examples. The host argues that rest is an activity that often requires intentional effort, challenging the idea that rest is simply the absence of work.

  4. 3:12Invitation and closing

The speaker invites listeners to 'work really hard to rest really well,' offers a warm goodbye, and closes by repeating the song's reassuring mantra about making mistakes. This wraps up the talk with an actionable takeaway and comforting sign-off.

I might have spent six months lying in my living room slow. I might have been sick and welled in sick someone. I might be proud of me than I ever have been. Read those lyrics. I might have spent six months lying on my living room floor. I might have been sick, then well, then sick some more. I might be prouder of me than I've ever been. And the song is called Letting Go by Angie McMahon. I'll play the end at the end. But it goes, it's okay, it's okay, make mistakes, make mistakes, it's okay, it's okay, make mistakes, make mistakes.

And it just keeps going on like that in this beautiful joy of dance of saying, hey, This life is not scripted. There's not a play-by-play. There's not a here's the seven steps to doing it right. And that's the daily reminder speak wonder that what we're doing here in the cadre sphere is showing the world that there's lots of ways to be well. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. My name's JC. If we've never shared time and space together before, thank you for the chance to spend some time with you right now.

So question, do you work harder at work or at rest? Do you work harder to do the work that you do or do you work harder to rest? It's funny, the English language kind of sets us up for some like, oh, that's interesting. Right? We work at things, like we work at work. Same word, right? working at doing work may be redundant, but also it's not. Because what are we saying is, or what we're saying is, what I'm saying is, work is the effort to do the thing that we're doing. We actually call the thing that allows us to do the thing, we use the same word, work and work, which I think sets us up to think that rest is something that should not take effort.

We think that rest should be easy. I always love saying rest is not the absence of work. That's why most of us are not super good at resting because we go, okay, I'm not doing anything. I must be resting. It doesn't work that way. We need to work at rest. Rest is an activity. Silence is not the absence of sound. Silence is an activity. Stillness is not the absence of movement. Stillness is an activity. So we look at how all these things fit and we go, We need to work at our work. And we also need to work when we're doing some rest.

That's my invitation for you today. Work really hard to rest really well. Have a good one, y'all. We'll see you tomorrow. It's okay, it's okay. Make mistakes, make mistakes. It's okay, it's okay. Make mistakes, make mistakes. It's okay, it's okay. Make mistakes, make mistakes. It's okay, it's okay, make mistakes.
