JC opens the daily video with a friendly morning greeting, mentions the time of year and his role hosting Cadre Spear. He sets a warm, personal tone and asks viewers how they're doing.
JC introduces the word 'lessish' and explains his love of making words, positioning language as a vessel for meaning before defining the new term.
The host contrasts selfish and selfless behavior, noting cultural pressures around self-care and the risk of burnout from constant selflessness. He breaks down the wordplay of removing 'self' to reveal 'ish' and combines concepts to explain how neglecting self-care results in feeling 'lessish.'
JC urges listeners to proudly take care of themselves while also sharing with others when possible, suggesting this balance makes sustainable giving more likely.
He closes by inviting viewers to refrain from being 'lessish,' wishes them well, and says goodbye.
Hey, good morning, Cadre. How are we? How are we? How are we on this Tuesday in Minnesota? These are some interesting weeks because we're in unofficial fall right now. Fall starts sometime in the latter part of September, 24th, 23rd, 24th of September. But after the state fair wraps up, we kind of move into this, it feels like fall. We're planning for fall. We're excited for fall. We're mourning summer. So that's what's going on in my world. What's going on where you are? I hope something good, but if not, here's your daily reminder that even when you're not feeling good or when things aren't going smoothly, you are still incredibly capable.
worthy and you're probably still going to accomplish some pretty miraculous things today. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. My name's JC and I'm here every darn day doing this, stirring the magic of the Cadre Spear to remind every one of you that there are lots of different ways to be well. And you're going to see people to be settling in right here. Speak Wonder says today is a lessish day. Lessish is one of my favorite made-up words. I love making up words because language is a bunch of vessels, right?
Words are vessels and it's what we place in them that gives them worth and meaning. So here's what lessish is. If we think of two acts, the act of being selfless and the act of being selfish, Both of them kind of have some slippery slopes in the modern day world. We're not supposed to be selfish. So anytime we do anything for ourselves, which is needed, if we don't take care of ourselves, we can't take care of anybody else. You can't pour from an empty pitcher. You need to put your own mask on before you put other people's mask on.
We have all the phrases, right? In the world of selfishness, we always have to hide those times that we're doing something for ourselves. And because we're hiding ourself, if we remove self from selfish, you're left with ish. Hold on to the ish for a moment. Now let's talk about being selfless. Oh, selfless is what we're always supposed to be and we're always supposed to be selfless, selfless, selfless. And after we do it for a long time, we end up burning out. We end up not having anything left to give.
Same thing. You can't pour from an empty pitcher. You need to put your own mask on. So and so forth. So whenever we're doing selfless things, quite often we have to protect. We have to remove ourselves from the selfless things so we don't burn out. If you lose yourself in selfless, what are you left with? Less. Now think about what you had before, the ish. Now you got less. Less ish. Here's the deal. When you remove yourself from doing things that are really good and nourishing for you and really good and nourishing for everybody else, You're left feeling lessish.
That's nothing that nobody needs. So loudly, proudly be selfish. And loudly and proudly share of yourself for those people who need you and the things that you have. When you do, you may be able to do it for a long time, y'all. That's my invitation today. Refrain from being lessish. Have a good one.
