The host explains the title In Curvatus Se, attributing the phrase to Augustine and describing how he 'curved in on himself' during difficult times. This provides historical and conceptual context for the theme of inward withdrawal.
Using analogies like turtles and snails, the speaker explains how people withdraw for protection and sometimes out of habit even when it's unnecessary. The host then invites listeners to look up, uncurl, and notice what's around them.
The host shares Joy Oladokan's song 'Look Up' and repeats key lyrics and the line 'Hold on because somebody loves you' to emphasize care and encouragement. This section functions as an emotional uplift and reminder of available support.
The video closes by reiterating the viewer's capability and worth, encouraging them to 'uncurl' and face the day, and ends with a friendly goodbye. This leaves the viewer with a concise actionable affirmation.
Hey Cadre, happy Tuesday! It is Tuesday in Minnesota, USA. Um, and I hope you're doing great. Uh, it is a summery day where I am, um, which is interesting because yesterday, um, I was, um, leaving Australia where it was the last day of winter and the first day of spring. And now I'm back in Minnesota where it is the waning days of summer as we head into autumn in a couple of weeks. This planet is so peculiar when you look at it as a whole. This planet and the universe in which we exist and all the things.
And all of that is to say that you're doing pretty great. You may not feel like it. You may not have what you had yesterday or you may not have what you'll have tomorrow because you're working up to it and you're growing and so on and so forth. But right now you are incredibly capable, incredibly worthy, and you're probably going to accomplish some pretty miraculous things. I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know the things I know and I care about you. So. Some Latin in the Cadre Today title today, In Curvatus Se, to curve in on oneself.
There was, as most of them are, an old white guy named Augustine. Augustine lived in Hippo over on the other side of the world. And Augustine went through some rough and tumbly times. And when Augustine was going through some rough and tumbly times, Augustine said that he curved in on himself in curvatus se. So much so that he was incapable of seeing the world around him, seeing light and joy and capacity and support and all these things. He was incapable of seeing those things because he curved in on himself.
We all do that. The beautiful thing about our nervous system is that like a turtle in a shell or anything else with a shell, a snail, I keep thinking about things with shells or like birds who can burrow their heads in the ground or into their feathers or humans who can burrow their heads into their laptops or into their work or into whatever is comforting until all of a sudden it's not comforting anymore. we are incredibly capable of protecting ourselves when we need to protect ourselves. And yet sometimes we even do it when we don't have to protect ourselves, but just because it's our routine to close ourselves off from the world.
My invitation for you today is to make sure you take some time to look up, to look out, to uncurl yourself, to see what there is around you. There's opportunity, there's support, there's cadre. It's a beautiful thing. Joy Oladokan has that song, Look Up, which I often play quite a bit here in the Cadre Sphere. Look up. Look up. Hold on. There's words in between, but I think that says it enough. Look up. Look up. Hold on. Actually, I like the hold on line. Hold on because somebody loves you. It's true.
We do. Y'all, I hope you're having a good one. But even if you're not, here's your reminder that you are still incredibly capable, still incredibly worthy, and you're probably still going to accomplish some pretty miraculous things today. So uncurl yourself and go do your day. I'll see you tomorrow.
