Chapters

  1. 0:00Opening and tech hiccup

Luke opens the video, greets the audience, and apologizes for a previous live attempt that failed due to his phone connecting to Wi‑Fi. This short intro sets the scene before he shifts to the main topic.

  2. 0:35Energy givers and takers

Luke defines the idea of energy givers and takers, describing how some interactions leave you drained while others leave you uplifted. This section helps viewers recognize the emotional effect people have on them.

  3. 1:17Identify and limit drains

He asks viewers to consider who in their life drains their energy—family members, colleagues, or friends—and suggests intentionally limiting time with those people. The Aunt Sally example illustrates how to set practical limits on recurring interactions.

  4. 2:07Givers, takers, and balance

Luke contrasts habitual takers with habitual givers and warns that either extreme is unhealthy. He advocates for a balanced approach where relationships include both giving and taking for mutual health.

  5. 2:51Reflect and set boundaries

The closing encourages self-reflection with quick questions—do certain people fill your bucket or drain it, and which calls or messages are worth your energy. He urges viewers to analyze how much time they give to energy zappers and to consider giving them less.

Happy Wednesday. Luke Wentland here. Good to see everybody. Sorry about my little faux pas. Earlier today, I went to try to go live. And real quick, like there's something that we have to do as contributors. You have to immediately put your phone on silent. Anytime it would connect to Wi-Fi, it separates out all the things. And sure enough, like here I am walking downtown Minneapolis. had my Wi-Fi still searching, my Wi-Fi connected, and so sorry about that. Unfortunately, it went sideways. So it is what it is.

But talking about givers and takers. So real quick, I just want to share. My name is Luke Wentland again. Been at Cadre since day one. Just want to share real quick that if you are in relationships, either with friendships, family, you name it, and it feels like your energy is being depleted, right? It feels like your energy is being depleted. You're going through and you're like, oh my gosh, like every time I'm with this person, I feel like I'm getting, you know, it's like they're zapping my energy.

Or to the flip side of the coin, every time you're with them, you feel positive, you feel upbeat, you feel more energy, you feel all the things like there's energy givers and energy takers. My question, have you started to define which ones are in your life? And might be sometimes family members, might be sometimes colleagues and people you work with. And then it's also really good to know of what it means to separate those folks out from your life. Meaning like, this individual really drains my energy.

I only have so much time I can give them in a month or a year. It could be family, right? Like, you know, it's Aunt Sally and every Christmas Aunt Sally brings me in and she goes in negative town and she tells me about this and tells me about this. It's like, that it's time to limit your time with Aunt Sally, of like how much you're gonna be willing to give her because if she's draining your energy. And then also, there's just givers and takers of life, right? Givers and takers of life. So there's energy and then there's givers and takers, meaning there's individuals that are always looking to take.

Like, what can I take? What can I take in business? What can I take in friendships? What can I take in partnerships? What can I take in relationships? And then there's individuals that are givers, that give and give and give. And in both of them, I just wanna make sure that we're on the same page. Either if you're on the far left or far right, probably not healthy on either side. But if you're more of the moderate and in the middle that you're giving, and sometimes taking, so you can take and give, you're probably in a really healthy relationship, right?

So keep that in mind as you continue to think about your day and think about the relationships that really matter. Think of those people close to say, when I'm with them, do I get my bucket filled? When I'm with them, do I, am I depleted? Am I drained? When I see that text message come through, is it like, really? I gotta respond Aunt Sally? And mind you, if you have an Aunt Sally, I'm sorry, I've just used her over and over again today. But think about this today as you continue to move through your life and you know, that phone call that pops up on your phone, you're like, God, I gotta take that.

Or that phone call that pops in and goes, oh my gosh, I can't wait to connect with him or her. Right? So keep this in mind as you go through your day and start to also analyze and evaluate yourself, like, am I giving the energy zappers more? Am I giving those individuals more of my time or should I give them less? So think about that today.
