Christy opens the video with warm hellos, remarks about the weather and her excitement for the week, and introduces the theme of gratitude, noting appreciation for even small everyday blessings.
Christy describes visiting her mother after brain surgery, explaining how family caregiving has given her perspective and set the context for her reflections on gratitude.
Christy contrasts routine, automatic 'thank yous' with intentionally specific acknowledgements, offering concrete examples from the hospital and home (bringing socks, calming a patient, doing chores) and explaining how specificity deepens gratitude for both the giver and receiver.
Christy reiterates her commitment to express gratitude more intentionally, encourages viewers to do the same, and closes with thanks, well wishes, and a sign-off for next week.
Hello, Cadre Sphere. Hello, hello. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. A beautiful day in the neighborhood. Hello, welcome. My name is Christy Larson. I'm always excited when it's Wednesday and I can be with you all. It is absolutely beautiful here in Minnesota. We've got great weather. We're going to get some humidity, so we're going to enjoy it while we can with the beautiful bright sunshine. Yeah, it's just gorgeous. It's summertime. So welcome. Thanks for joining me. I am always, like I said, excited to see you and excited to be here.
I am full of gratitude all the time. I think about all the things we have to be grateful for, even the small little teeny tiny things like being able to put some socks on our feet or brush our teeth at night or whatever your thankful gratitude moments are. I was thinking about this as I was visiting mom in the hospital. Mom is recovering from a brain surgery for those of you that have been kind of following along with me. Slowly but surely, she's recovering from her brain surgery and we've been spending, dad's been there all day, every day and I've been joining him when I can during the week in the afternoons and evenings and sitting with her while she eats her dinner and gets tucked into bed.
So it's been a very huge blessing for our family to be able to have mom. make it through and be on the journey of healing. So I was thinking about this greatness of gratitude and how I have really started to try to be more specific with my gratitude. We say thanks a lot. Thank you. Aw thanks. You rock. Thank you. However you use thank you when you are in your day-to-day. And it's always make someone feel good when you thank them, right? And recognize them for something that they've done either for you or for someone more specific to you.
But thinking about making those moments more specific and thanking people for very specific things. And I've been trying to do that more and more in the hospital. And I think about Thank you for picking that up for me. That was really nice. I wasn't sure a guy could get to it. Or thank you so much for making dinner tonight. I was really tired when I got home from work. Or thank you for cleaning the bathroom. That was not something that I really wanted to do this afternoon. And so I found this kind of to be really helpful with the nurses and the assistants and the people that come in and out of my mom's hospital room, just in terms of hopefully they hear thank you all the time.
Hopefully that's something, you know, patients and support family members, friends of those patients are saying, but I'm trying to get more specific with it. So when folks come into the room and they do something for us as a family, for my mom, I'm trying to be very specific with my thank you. And what I found with that is it really, it creates in me those moments where I recognize how grateful I am for that thing that someone did. It's not necessarily just for them, but it also reminds me of that gratefulness that I have for the people that are around us and the people that are doing things that sometimes are small or sometimes don't get recognized.
And it's important for us to be able to take a moment and really think about some of those things. So whether it's Thank you so much for bringing new socks for mom. She really needed them to thank you for being a calming aspect. When mom was upset the other day, it really helped to calm her down. Thank you for offering to sit with her. She loves to have company. Whatever it might be, trying to be more specific with those thank yous because I feel as though, again, for me, it reminds me of those things that I'm thankful for.
And it's not just a thank you, right? In and out, kind of an exchange of a moment of recognizing what in that moment we're thankful for. And so it's important to do that I think every now and then, really get those specifics out. I know thank you is just like, hi, how are you, right? We say it a lot. Sometimes it's just automatic and we don't necessarily realize that we're saying it. Sometimes we are saying it because we are incredibly grateful and full of gratitude. It really just depends. But I think For me, I really like giving it that memorable moment, that one specific thing that I am grateful for or thankful for, and allowing that to kind of sit both with me and with whomever I am thanking on the other side.
So that's what I wanted to say to you today, Cadre Sphere. I am full of so much gratitude in so many different ways and want to express it in whatever in however many different ways that I can, but doing it in a more specific or giving that giving it a little bit more oomph, I think sometimes is really important. So that's what I have for you. Take care Cadre Sphere. Be well and thank you for being you both inside and out. I'll see you next week on Wednesday. Y'all enjoy the rest of your week. Take care and enjoy your Wednesday.
