Chapters

  1. 0:01Opening greeting and identity

Kathy greets viewers, states where she's broadcasting from, and explains she's watching her grandkids. She also shares her CADRE handle and mentions her Harbor Pilots logo to orient the audience.

  2. 0:44Caregiver metaphor and setup

She uses the Harbor Pilots image to describe caregivers guiding each other to respite, then describes being at a playground with a porta potty and kids playing. Kathy notes she may need to leave quickly because of caregiving duties but is happy to help.

  3. 2:24Park details and coffee

Kathy mentions stopping at Tim Hortons and enjoying a matcha latte, and talks about the children's TV viewing (Blippi and Miss Rachel). These everyday details set the casual, in-the-moment tone of the stream.

  4. 3:11Interruption and parenting moment

A bumblebee and other interruptions make this a short stream, and Kathy shares a meaningful exchange with a four-year-old named Tully about feeling grumpy and expressing big emotions. She explains how articulating feelings can diffuse tension and supports emotional development.

  5. 4:22Sign-off and handover

Kathy warns duty calls are pulling her away, reminds viewers they're a safe harbor, previews upcoming Cadre speakers, and is then summoned by the children as she says goodbye.

Good morning cadre. Mid morning. About 1/2 an hour away from being noontime in eastern Pennsylvania. I'm broadcasting today from the beautiful little town of Edinboro, PA. It's where my grandkids live and I'm watching both of them today. Ergo, this might be a very short. Very short live stream. Hey Randi, thanks for joining. My name's Kathy. My CADRE handle is SpeakWonder because I love to write and I love poetry. I love to speak wondrous things into your life. And my logo for CADRE is Harbor Pilots.

It seems appropriate on Caregiver Day, Thursday, that we might compare ourselves to boats in the harbor helping each other find our way to safe mooring to peaceful harbor and to respite in the midst of our being out at sea, caring for others. I am going to be looking over this way quite a bit because we are at a playground, complete with a porta potty, very necessary, and all kinds of climbing equipment. And of course, my grandson has found the one puddle amidst the really fun equipment. He has found the puddle to play in.

If I have to make a quick departure, you'll understand. One of them, Oliver is two years old and Matilda is going to be five in a couple months. Busy children. Sometimes caregiving means being on call, and today it does. My daughter had a schedule change with her job and there was no child care to be had. And while I am one of the ones as the OMA or the grandma to watch the children once a week, sometimes I'm called into service right away. Today was one of those days. So I happily did it because my schedule was clear enough.

I do honor my rest days and my own respite days. Today I felt like I could do it and so I am. I'm here at the park. We just went to Timmy Horton's. I don't know if you guys have those in Minnesota or where you're watching from. Tim Horton's is a Canadian born coffee place and they've made their way into the upper part of the US. I mentioned Canada, right? Okay, this is so good. This is a matcha latte. Today at their house, when I first arrived and mom left for work, I had the two watching a very popular kids show.

I think it's PBS. It's Blippi. Kind of drives me crazy, but the kids love him. And then there's Miss Rachel. Anyway, what do you need? Okay, there's a bumblebee in the porta potty. This might call for a quick departure. Can you believe it? This is the shortest live stream I've ever done. I just wanted to tell you that while I'm walking toward the crisis, I wanted to tell you that I had a really great conversation with the four-year-old Tully. We talked about big feelings. It was wonderful because we talked calmly after having a disagreement.

about how sometimes we feel grumpy and that's okay. It doesn't mean that we don't still love our oma or our granddaughter. It really is okay. And sometimes we're super happy and that's good too. Little kids have big feelings and it's wonderful when they get to a point where they can articulate them to some degree and express what's going on because it can diffuse an otherwise building situation. Okay, duty calls. More to come next week on the Cadre. Remember you are somebody safe harbor. Stay tuned for Shannon Paul and comedy in the chaos.

Later on we have I believe her first name is Michelle and she's going to talk about dating while tired. Alrighty, I'm being summoned. Bye. Oma! Oma! Oma! Oma!
