  1. 0:01welcome and opening

Dr. Jessica Green welcomes viewers, shares the show's focus on mindset reset, mental health, and personal growth, and sets the scene with a casual update about the morning and location.

  2. 1:24metaphor and mindset framing

Dr. Green introduces the deck-of-cards metaphor to explain how we respond to difficult circumstances and emphasizes choosing to 'play to win' rather than fold, outlining that growth involves awareness, strategy, and goals rather than perfection.

  3. 4:45folding behaviors explained

She describes what 'folding' looks like—avoiding crucial conversations, passive communication, fear, overhelping, and shutting down—highlighting how these patterns keep people in survival mode instead of growth.

  4. 8:17practical mindset exercises

Dr. Green prompts listeners to identify things to start, stop, continue, and change, encouraging boundary-setting, vulnerability, and reframing responses from 'because of' to 'in spite of' to actively write one's narrative.

  5. 10:11closing and encouragement

She closes with reminders to be courageous, compassionate, and connected, and notes listeners can replay the talk if needed.

Good morning cadre world. This is Dr. Jessica Green and I am so happy that you all are able to join me and be with me today as we focus on mindset reset and we dive in and we talk about all things mental health and mental wellness, along with personal growth. Good morning, Steph. Today is going to be a fantastic Wednesday. It is warming up. Spring is starting to spring, finally. Here in the wonderful city of Myrtle Beach along the Grand Strand, it is 55 degrees. So yes, I have my blazer on. I have my scarf on.

because it is a little chilly. And if you are in your office, you may be like me. I have my heater under my desk because I need something to break that chill. Good morning, Shannon. So today we are going to talk about something that focuses on, again, personal growth, but it also focuses on that mental health and mental wellness. And it is reminding ourselves that in life, right? So life is like a deck of cards. It may not be the hand that we want, but it has been the hand that we have been dealt with.

So we have two options. Either we're going to fold or we're going to play to win, right? And for us, we're going to go with the ladder. Our goal is to play to win. And you may ask yourself, what does that look like? And if we think about some relatable things that we go through with life, some of those relatable, tough hands that we are dealt, and please list some of them in the chat. I'm gonna talk about some of them, but there are some that I may not mention, like, Hey, Jess, what about this one?

So in life, we deal with anxiety. You know, if we think about the culture of our environment and the things that we're going through on a daily basis, whether it's work related, whether it's home, whether our kids are currently on spring break right now, or we are on that vacation, there may be a sense of uncertainty there. When we think about trauma, whether it's workforce trauma, whether it's home, whether it's through lived experiences, We did not allow those things to determine who we are or where we're going.

And then also our ability to change that language where we're not saying because of this, we're saying in spite of this, I was still able to accomplish those goals. When we think about loss in the terms of grief, We may ask that question, why me? Why my family? And when we think about disappointment, not allowing those cards that we have been dealt to allow us to ruminate, where we're having those thoughts or rethinking, I can't move forward. What am I going to do and what does that look like? Because with those cards, we're not going to allow those to be chains.

to hold us down. We're going to think about those chains that are trying to hold us down and think the opposite of, hey, that momentum of not allowing those chains to hold you down and stop you from growing. So when we think about that shift with mindset, right? When we think about winning, winning isn't always about having that best hand. All right. It's about how you play it. And when we think about mental health, when we think about mental wellness, when we think about personal growth, it's not about that sense of perfection.

It's about increasing that sense of awareness, having that strategy, having those set goals, which allows those opportunities for growth. So when we think about folding, right? And what does folding looks like? Folding looks like avoiding those critical and crucial conversations where we're using that passive communication as opposed to that assertive communication. Now, I don't want us to use aggressive. I don't want us to allow people to become innocent bystanders. You know, we're having a bad day and they say, hey, Shannon, Let me grab that for you.

And Shannon says, No, I got it. I got it. I'll do it myself. In that moment, that individual was there to help you, but they became that innocent bystander. Had nothing to do what was going on in that previous conversation or their previous relationship or meaning that you had. But in that moment, Tad, they were it based on that moment, and that situation of you not being able to have that conversation with others. The fear of making decisions, that sense of vulnerability. Yes, we are fearful, but we have to be courageous at the same time.

Because what happens when we don't stand up for ourselves? We allow people to walk over us. Sometimes individuals, because we say yes, yes, yes so much, they come to us first because they know we will say yes as opposed to asking someone else. And then sometimes individuals want that instant gratification. Hey, let me go ask Jessica because she'll tell me what to do as opposed to showing me what I need to do next. Also shutting down when things feel overwhelming. So here we go, we're hopping in that fight or flight.

Where instead of us being able to say, Hey, setting those boundaries. Hey, I'm not able to do that. I am at full capacity. We do it anyway. When we continue to pour into others as opposed to pouring into ourselves. And I want you to think about this. It's not a sense of growth. But in that moment, you're in survival mode. We're trying to figure out who we are and where we're going. So when we think about life and we think about the cards that we have been dealt, I want you to ask yourself, am I going to fold or am I going to play to win?

Am I going to allow people, places, and things determine my worth and determine my value where I'm continuing to give, give, give to others. But then when you ask me, what are the things that I enjoy doing? What are the things that I do for fun? I can't tell you because I'm always pouring into everybody else. So I want you to take that moment and ask yourself, what is something that you want to start doing? When life gives me this hand, and it's not the hand I want, but what can I do to change that mindset and change that shift?

So I want you to think of four things. What's something that you want to start doing, something you wanna stop doing, something that you wanna continue to do that's going great, whether we're setting boundaries, we're pouring into our cups, we're able to have those critical and crucial conversations with others. And then something that you want to change the way you're doing it. You like how it's going, but you want to change it up a little bit and mold it into something that works for you. Because remember, you are the one who's writing this narrative.

And people only do what we allow them to do until we set that boundary. until we allow ourselves to see vulnerability in a positive light and reminding ourselves, if I do not say something, I'm not setting that boundary. And people can't read our minds. So if we do not tell them, they're not going to know. So instead of us folding, on people, places, and things when we have trauma, disappointment, loss, that transition. We do not say, oh, because of this. We say in spite of. We write that narrative because when it comes to that deck of cards, when it comes to life, it's not going to be if it happens, but when it happens.

And then what's my reaction? What's my response to it? Am I going to fold or I'm going to play to win? And I know for me, I am going to play to win. So as always, continue to be courageous, continue to have compassion, and continue to build connections. And also, if you are driving, if you are in your vehicle and you're not able to listen as you want to tune in and take some notes, remember that with Cadre, you're able to see this in replay, all right? So if your kids are home and it is organized chaos, make sure you Hit that replay button and you listen to it again at a moment at a time that is convenient for you, so whenever you are in, you are all in.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, again, be courageous, have compassion, build connections, and be true to you.
