Today in the caregiver community, I want to talk about two things. One is practical and one is emotional. Today, I'm specifically talking about folks who are taking care of others. I hope that it's resonant with you.

Hi, Cadre. Happy Tuesday afternoon. It is Shannon from Cadre. Welcome to our platform. So, for those of you who I've never met before, my name is Shannon. I am part of the Cadre team. I am a person who lives with anxiety, cptsd, and then I am a caregiver for a child with autism. And so I go live and I talk a lot about being a caregiver. That's one of the many things I talk about. I'm also not a mental health professional. I'm not a therapist. So I'm here to share my lived experience with you. And so today in the caregiver community, I want to talk about two things.
I think a lot in terms of practical support as a caregiver, and then I think about emotional support as a caregiver. And you might be a caregiver of any kind. Right. So when you think about a caregiver, it could be for your spouse or parent, your child. There's a million ways in which you might be a paid caregiver. You might work in a profession where you're giving care. Today, I'm specifically talking about folks who are taking care of others. I do think today I'm talking a little bit about an unpaid caregiver, probably because the paths that we navigate to get to help can be murkier.
We're not connected into an ecosystem of care. Often we have to figure things out by ourself. So today I'm going to talk about two things. One is practical and one is emotional. I hope that it's resonant with you. I cannot see comments, so if you're adding them. Thank you. Sometimes as caregivers, we have to navigate systems of care. My son Wyatt is 16. He is 16 and a half, and soon he'll be an adult. So one of the things that I have to navigate is getting resources for him for that transition. I live in the state of Minnesota, and so we were advised to get talk to our healthcare ecosystem and talk about getting something called Medicaid.
I'm not going to get into all the words, but it's basically assistance as he becomes an adult to see if he qualifies. So I don't love. I love words, but I do not love navigating systems of finance. I don't love acronyms when it comes to finance and finance, I mean, paying for things in healthcare. So that stresses me out. It probably or potentially stresses you out as well, but I was tasked to do that. So I wanted to give you a practical resource today that's a little bit of a hack. Find a person.
And I know that makes it sound really freaking easy, and it's not. That is part of why we are here today is if you need a person to help you solve a problem as a caregiver in whatever state you live in, drop that information in our chat. Message me join my particular community and I can help you with this. We will go to battle with you in finding resources. But for my son, I found a person who understands it, who understands what it means to try to get financial support in the state of Minnesota.
So what I had her do was something really basic that she did for me. And she gave me a script. She said, what you need to do is get your kid. And in this case, it's called Smurded, and it means State Medical Review Team. When she gave me that acronym, I had no idea what it meant. And I can infer some things, but it's confusing. She gave me a script, and the script was this. Call this number. Gave me the number. I'm going to just show you, actually, the script. I hope you can see it. I'm going to look here.
There you go. And I'll actually put this in the chat. This is Call this number.
