Sometimes success isn’t about doing the thing. It’s about doing the thing at the right moment. Passport photo at home, zero fluorescent lights, no strangers, no pressure, and unlimited retakes? Highly recommend. Paying attention to timing saved my kid’s nerves and mine. What’s something you’ve learned is way easier when you wait for the right moment instead of forcing it?
Anxiety is at an all time high where I live. I decided to get my kid a passport photo at home. Sometimes paying attention means waiting for the right moment instead of forcing one. Less stress, more success.
Been thinking a lot lately about what it means to pay attention to what actually works when anxiety is high. And anxiety is definitely at an all time high lately where I live. Like, I need to get my kid a passport photo and just the photo right now. I thought it'd be a first date and I decided to do it at home. So I thought Thursday might be the day. But he wasn't in the right mood, so I paused. Friday ended up being the day. And it was almost like he knew that this was something we needed to get done because he got up, took a shower, let me brush his hair, and ta da.
Suddenly I had a clean, dressed human being ready for a clean photo. That alone felt like a win. Then came the real task. Getting to come downstairs to my studio, stand in front of my screen, look at the camera, and smile long enough for me to take the photo. Now, doing it at home made all the difference because I was able to keep it fun. We could keep it light, and if it doesn't work out, we just try again in a few minutes. And I can't imagine doing that for us in the passport office with all the fluorescent lights, the str dangerous, and the pressure of getting done the first time.
So choosing what works for him is also what's choosing to work for what works for me. Less stress, more success. And sometimes paying attention means waiting for the right moment instead of forcing one. And that counts as progress. So for you, what's something that's easier when you wait for the right moment instead of trying to push through.
