We tried something new today. Just one day a week. My kiddo took school transportation home for the first time. And somehow, that one day felt like an eternity in my head. Full soundtrack. Worst-case scenarios. The whole thing. I’ve been driving him for years, so of course my anxiety clocked in early. Is he okay? Is this going to be a whole thing? So I showed up at school as a backup. Just in case. Turns out… I was not needed. He got on transportation. Got home safely. Walked into the house and went straight to his room like this had always been the plan. Meanwhile, I emotionally aged about seven years for no reason. A good reminder that sometimes the thing we’re bracing for turns out to be no big deal at all. So tell me, what’s something you’ve been catastrophizing that might actually be okay once you try it? 💙
My kiddo took school transportation home. We only started with one day a week. Sometimes one step feels enormous, and sometimes it really just takes one day. What's something that you tend to catastrophize when it might actually be okay?
Wanted to share some good news from today. It was the last day of school before winter break. And it was also the first day of a brand new adventure for us. My kiddo took school transportation home. Now, let me be clear. We only started with one day a week. Just one single manageable day. And somehow that one day felt like an eternity in my head. You know, I've been driving him for years. But for his autonomy and honestly, to give myself a little breathing room, we decided it was time to try transportation, starting with just one day a week.
And of course, my anxiety immediately clocked in early. Is he going to be okay? How's it going to work? Is this going to work? And what if this whole thing just blows up in my face? And then I caught myself, we've been practicing this. This is good for him. And sending negativity into the universe is not going to help either of us. So I told myself, get it together, mom. Now, I still went to school as backup, just in case he decided that this new adventure was a hard no. But he got on the transportation, no problem.
He got home, problem. He walked into the house, no problem, Went straight to his room, like, hey, this was always the plan. And you know what? It turned out it was no problem. So here's my question for you. What's something that you tend to catastrophize when it might actually be okay once you give it a chance? Sometimes one step feels enormous. And sometimes it really just takes one day a week.
