Story of my wife. Broken ankle.
Good morning. I feel great. Good morning. Hope everybody had a phenomenal weekend. I'm feeling great. I hope everybody had what they needed.
Here we are. It is a beautiful Monday here in Minnesota. Thanks for showing up. The music makes me want to be in a drum circle. Feels really good.
There's some times where you just don't need to be a hero. My wife was complaining of an ankle injury six weeks ago. An X ray showed she had a fracture. She's in the boot. It's like a four to six weeks recovery.
Luke Wetland: Sometimes we are in the mindset to be the leader and we ignore the red flags when we should stop for a moment and address them. What do you need to ask somebody else for? For help? Think about that question. Have a ridiculously awesome week.
Good morning. Good. I feel great. I feel good. I feel good. I feel great. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Hope everybody had a phenomenal weekend. Good morning. Good morning. Hope everybody had what they needed and got what they needed this weekend. Here we are. It is Monday. I feel good. I feel great. And if you don't, that's okay too. But I am here and I'm ready to rock. And I'm here with you all. Thanks for showing up. It is a beautiful Monday here in Minnesota. Thank you. All the names that have continued to pop through.
It's great to be here today. Good to see all the faces. Good to see all the names. The music makes me want to be in a drum circle. Me too. Feels really good. Good morning, junk food junkie. Good morning, Speak wonder. Good morning. Good morning. So, just got a quick one for you all today, but something I want to share, right? So in any times of running, business, personal endeavors, goals, da, da, da, da. There's like these hero moments, team moments, and all these other things. And then there's moments where, you know, like the anti hero kind of wins too.
So I want to share a story of my amazing wife. She's remarkable. She's the rock of our family. She is everything, like literally everything. She keeps the train on the tracks. She does it all right. And she goes and goes and goes and. Remarkable woman. But she. About a month ago, actually six weeks ago, she was complaining of like an ankle injury. She's like, you know, I just got it. I got, I got pain in my ankle and it hurts and I got pain in my ankle. And I would like every night, like literally every night after, like kids go to bed, all the things.
I'm like rubbing her ankle and she's like, it hurts so bad. And I stretch it and I pull it and I pull it to the side and I do these things. Like, honey, you gotta go in like week one, week two, week three, week four, right? And she's like, she's running on it, she's hiking on it, she's doing all these things. So finally, you know, we were up north at my in laws. So we were up north of my in laws and like, it got to the point where we had more time, right? So we had more time because my father in law is in the hospital and you know, time just kind of slowed down.
Like we, we sat there, we had a lot of time to reflect and think. I'm like, you know, babe, while we're here, like, why don't you just get your ankle looked at like, we're here, we got time. Like, just go, go have it looked at. So she goes and has looked at, they take an X ray, and sure enough, she has a fracture. So she has, for literally five to six weeks, has been running, hiking, walking, all of it on this ankle. And I just, I, I, I, I mean, like, at a certain point I'm like, you're gonna do more damage than actually going, getting it done.
So my message for you all today is this. There's some times where you just don't need to be a hero. And I, I kept telling her this. I'm like, just go get it looked at. Go get you what you need. So now she's in the boot. She, you know, the cast, the boot. She's got the whole nine yards, right? And, and there's some times where, you know, hero is a really good thing and standing out, doing what you need to do and just figuring it out and making it happen. And then there's other times where it's like, is this the best decision?
Is this the right decision? Should I just take that pause for an hour or two and go, go get my ankle looked at, or should I take that pause and say, if know I'm going to meet with the team, you know, I'm going to take that pause and I'm going to bring more people in on this than just me. Like, I don't, I don't need to be a hero here. And so I wish my wife, six weeks ago, or whatever it was, would have stopped and paused and said, you know, honey, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to go in, I'm going to get this looked at and whatever.
Because she would have been healed by now. This is, it's like a four to six weeks recovery. And so now with all that pain, she would have been healed. She would have been off and running, doing the thing, but instead, you know, she's reverting back and now she's got to propel forward, which is fine. C. always talks about it. Regression, progression, I get it. So we're progressing now, which is fine. But nonetheless, there's some times where you just have to take a step back and say, am I being a hero or am I being a hero?
Or am I best served to say, I'm gonna pause and stop and get this looked at and, or bring in the right people, bring in the right team, bring someone here to support, make sure that I do the right thing for not only myself, but others, right? And we see this at business a lot, right? You see this at business a lot. Heck, you see this. We've seen this in our grade school days, right? Of, you know, imagine doing the. Imagine doing like the 7th grade, 9th grade project where you get a team of four, you get a team of six, right?
You get a team of four, you get a team of six, then you have the one person that's going to be the hero and do it all. And most of the time, everybody else just kind of wanted to do it with you and support with you and be a part of it with you. And you kind of like alienated yourself by trying to be that hero. And I'm not saying that's what my wife did, but she did it in a different way. So what's something that's on your plate right now? What is something that's on your plate right now that you can ask for help for?
What's something on your plate right now that you can ask for help for? What's something on your plate right now that's going to make you. Cause pause. Hold up for a second and say, hmm, should I go get help? Should I ask for help? Should I find somebody that can. That is a professional here that knows what they're doing? Can I get my teammates in? Not saying having a pain threshold and going out and trying to win and, you know, fulfill and execute and do all those things is wrong. It's not. But I really think it's a good moment of time to pause and to ask yourself, where do I need help?
Or what have I been holding back in my life? That is a great moment of time to ask for a different resource, a different opportunity, a different talking point, a different narrative, etc. So Emily says, good morning, Cadre. Good morning everybody. Speak wonder. I love this question. Junk for sometimes we are in the mindset to be the leader and we ignore the red flags when we should stop for a moment and address them. Agreed. On all fronts. In. In the red flags. I just want to make sure junk food junkie, that it doesn't come off negative, right?
Like, the red flags don't mean that it's always a bad thing. The red flags could mean it's a good thing. Like you have all the good intentions in the world to be be that hero. But ultimately sometimes it's best to pause and say, is this serving everybody? So I leave you with that and I leave you with this. What do you need to ask somebody else for? For help? Think about that question. Have a ridiculously awesome week. I'M always here with you. That just depends on the week and depends on my schedule.
Again, my name is Luke Wetland. I've been a Cadre since day one. I love going live on Monday for Monday motivation. I live for it. Sometimes I do Tales of Leadership on Thursday, sometimes I do Wednesday Wisdom. And then sometimes I do, like, these impromptu lives because I'm just feeling it. So I'm here with you all. I'll always be here with you all. Thanks for participating with me at Cadre and let's have an amazing day. Feel good today. I, like, feel.
