“50 Years of Choosing Resilience,” a celebration of resilience: yours and mine.
All right, well, Cadre. Gotta fix my hair. Here I am. I'm lost track of time.
But guess what today is for conscious fatherhood. Well, it's having a spur of the moment trip to Malibu to have lunch with your daughter. Acceptance and fatherhood, that's everything, right? That is every thing.
Rick Cadre: Acceptance is the answer to all my problems. I accept my daughter for who she is. He says fathers must accept their role in their kids lives as it changes over time. Cadre says it's more about the relationship that the parent creates with the child.
All right, well, Cadre. Cadre sphere. Gotta fix my hair. Here I am. I'm lost track of time. But guess what today is for conscious fatherhood. And what is conscious fatherhood? Well, it's having a spur of the moment trip to Malibu to have lunch with your daughter. So that's what I'm doing. And that is what I took a quick break from when the little thing came up saying, hey, you forgot to do your live stream. So fair enough, I forgot to do my live stream. So I'm doing it now. So acceptance is all the answers, man.
Acceptance and fatherhood, that's everything, right? That is every thing. When it comes to being a parent, when it comes to being a conscious father, I mean, my daughter just drove. My daughter just drove to Malibu. That's an hour drive. I was just in my car. In the car with my daughter. An hour in traffic and all kinds of turns and all of that. We wanted to talk about acceptance. Acceptance. That one. I not in control. I'm not the one driving. I'm the passenger. I've been driving her for 16 years now.
I'm the passenger. Wow. Then, you know, there's this whole acceptance of, like, you know, like, wow, my daughter's growing up. My daughter is a young woman. She's going on a date tomorrow. Except I don't think the kids call it a date at this point because they're still talking. So it's not really a date. Or maybe it's a date, but they're not dating. It's getting to know you, which I think is actually a really cool way of doing it. It's like, hey, let's get to know each other before we date. And, yeah, so lots of good stuff.
But acceptance, right? Acceptance is the answer to all my problems. And I. I accept my daughter for who she is. And frankly, for me, that's not that hard. I mean, we're driving here, we're having some nice conversations. She wants to call, like, my friends and talk to them. And so we're calling them and talking to them and having a good conversation. And, like, one of them is like a old best friend of mine from high school. And we used to act so silly, and she knows some of our silliness, and so we were just all doing it together on the drive.
So that was a pretty amazing, beautiful thing. But, you know, we passed one of the universities or colleges that she's thinking about going to on our drive. And, you know, it was just like. It's all part of acceptance. All part of, like, being in the moment with my daughter. Not the way that I think she needs to be. Not the way that I think, you know. Well, I really, I don't have any, I don't have any complaints regarding my daughter. She's just an amazing kid. But that's not really the full point, right.
It's conscious. Fathers have the ability to not only accept their kids but like be able to accept their role in their kids lives as it changes over time. And that is what's really critical right when it comes to acceptance. And there's a bunch of stuff out there. I mean I just watching something that said, oh, a child is going to be much more successful if a father does this, this and this and only a father. And I'm like, I'm not buying it. You know, Is the role of a father incredibly important?
Yes, it is. But if the mother does all those things and the father doesn't, the kid's screwed. Just like if the father does all those things and the mother doesn't, the kid's screwed. I just don't buy it. I don't think it's about that. I think it's much more about the relationship that the parent creates with the child. You know, Lucky mom and I get along great co parent well, you know, we accept kind of each other's co parenting styles for the most part and support each other and help each other along the way.
But you know, that's, that's what it's really, that's what it's really about. So acceptance is a beautiful thing. It is a gift that we have. You know, it's a gift that we have because when you're fighting something, when you want your child to be different, you know, that is definitely not acceptance. Right? When you're fighting for them to be something, when you're saying things, when you have that energy that says that implies there's something wrong with them. You know, the first step really, the first step is really to have an opportunity to look at myself and look at how I'm doing and all of that.
Rick, great to see you. You catch me right as I'm heading out and getting back to lunch with my daughter. So on that note, I wish you all very well. Have a great rest of your weekend. Cadre Sphere Peace.
