I missed my time this morning, so I’m bringing you a lesson from the day that came from what I’ve learned in eight years of therapy. It’s a good one!
Shannon lives with anxiety, cptsd and I'm a caregiver to my son with autism. Her live stream is called. things that I learned in eight Years of Therapy. At 6:46pm here, Central Standard Time out of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Shannon: Being calm when we get into a conversation with someone about something is something adults need to do too. Shannon: We're in a season of growth at Cadre. We have to slow down and Junk Food Junkie wait for the storm to over and wait for calmness.
Hi, Cadre. Happy Tuesday night. It is 6:46pm I was supposed to come to you live at 9:00am this morning, and I did not because life. So I just thought I would pop in here. I'm just post workout, so I'm a little bit, you know, I've got some good energy going. So I'm just coming to you now at 6:46pm here, Central Standard Time out of St. Paul, Minnesota, in my basement. Because I just wanted to share something that I did learn today. And my live stream is called. Usually it's called things that I learned in eight Years of Therapy.
So I'm someone. Those of you who don't know me, my name is Shannon. I am someone who lives with anxiety, cptsd and I have. I'm a caregiver to my son with autism. So those are the things that I live with. And I see you guys coming in. Hello, Jules. I was just thinking of you today. Speaking. Speak, Wonder. It's nice to see you. And Junk food junkie. Hi, you guys. Ah, I'm so happy to see you all. So today, you guys, I just wanted to share. I just had a lesson today, and it's funny because it came from me thinking that I was teaching my son a lesson this morning, and, you know, he was getting.
We were getting ready for school and he was. He was crabby and he was, you know, he was. He was crappy to me, basically. And I said, you know what? Let's. So let's talk about this when you are. When you're calm. Let's revisit this when you were calm. And he got really mad and he's like, mom, that's so rude to say to me, like, I don't need to be calm to have this conversation. And. And then I said, you know, Wyatt, this is my son with autism. Not that it matters, but I think I tend to be more patient in explaining, you know, societal norms with him or communication norms or whatever, just because, I don't know, for better or for worse, that's, I think, what happens.
And so I'm telling him, you know, when. One of the things I've learned in therapy is that being calm when we get into a conversation with someone about something actually is something adults need to do too. Like, we don't just tell kids to do that. We also tell adults to do that. Like, I've had to learn that as a person because a lot of times, especially with my anxiety, I'm not calm when I get into a conversation. If it's something I care about if it's a conflict, I can be not calm at all. And then I, you know, I tried to tell him some science, which, you know, I don't know.
I don't know what to do with that because I'm not a science person. But I tried to share with him what I learned that, you know, your lizard brain takes over when you are in fight or flight. And so you are not in your most resource self when you're trying to work through a conflict with someone. Someone. So he just said, hey, you know, we all have to take a break when we are in a moment. And so adults have to do it too. It's not just kids. And he's like, oh, really? I'm like, yeah, dude. Like, we don't know what we're doing either.
We're just, I mean, frankly, nobody really knows what they're doing. And so you gotta just take a break and step back so that you don't say something you don't mean or you don't just create a fight for no reason. And. But as I'm telling him all this stuff, I'm like thinking about it and just thinking, you know, of course, I mean, I need to take my own advice. And so that is for any of you parents out there. And I know that we have some on this stream right now. You know, it's so easy to lessen our children or give our children lessons, but I was like, God, I need to just take this advice myself.
And so we're in a season, and I'll just speak about Cadre. We're in a season of growth at Cadre, and it is, as you guys know, speak Wonder Junk Food Junkie, Jewels, you guys have all been here since the beginning. We have all these new people joining us and our family is growing and it's awesome and it's beautiful and it's, it's new stuff that's happening and it's new things. And, you know, sometimes it can be, I, it, I, I can be reactive. And so it's just as we grow and evolve and learn in life, whether it's at work, at home with our dogs.
My dog Gilbert is about to. Yep, I'm just gonna show you my dirty house. That's fine. He's there he is. He's trying to get into this picture. We have to, like, slow down and Junk Food Junkie wait for the storm to be over and wait for the calmness. And I think, you know, again, like, I was telling him all this stuff and then I'm Like, Shannon, you have to do this yourself. And I just thought that's a good lesson. And it's a good lesson for me in life. It's a good lesson for me, frankly, and in all the world.
And honestly, where our world is today. And it's also election day. And so for whatever that means to you, I'm not going to touch it. But just to say, as we go out into the world with each other, you know, yeah. Like junk food junkie says, let's, let's. Let's wait for the calmness to discuss things. Right? Let's. Let's slow down a bit. Let's be extra kind to each other. Let's give that extra breath. Let's let our lizard brains chill out a little bit before we enter into a conversation. And so, you know, I'm just grateful that my children, my children always remind me the things that I too get to work on as a human.
So. So that's all I have for you guys tonight. But I just want to say hello and I'm so glad, you know, it just made my day to see you guys in here. Jules. Speak Wonder junk food junkie. I am glad you guys are here. So thanks being for being part of our Cadre family. And I will give you a shot of the dog. There he is, Gilbert, who is clearly wanting to also be part of the Cadre family. And he's telling us. So have a great night, you guys. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being here. See you again soon in the Cadre sphere.
Bye, guys. It's gonna go.
