  1. 0:00Another strategy to improve your old attention is using Win W I N

Use the strategy called Win W I N stands for what's important now. Our brain and our body respond best to specific and deliberate cues for us to focus in on. You can use this strategy with anything, really.

All right, y' all got another strategy for you to improve your old attention because again, we all can need it. I talked about that in that mindfulness video, which is again, the number one way to train your attention consistently over time. And something I hadn't mentioned, that video is also, it's not just how you feel, but there's actual changes in your brain that happen from mindfulness training. So that one's great. Another strategy to offer, and one that I've used a lot is I've actually created a video back when I first started on Cadre, created a video on this.

I just want to add to it. It's using the strategy called Win W I N stands for what's important now. That's just a way to kind of hone in your focus. Because our brain, our attention, that capacity is very limited as far as what we can focus on. So our brain and our body respond best to specific and deliberate cues for us to focus in on. So when and what's important now is a really helpful way to do that. You can do that with anything, really. I mean, if you're in the context of performance, use this a lot.

With soldiers, if they're at the. If they're qualifying their rifle at a shooting range, there's a lot to pick in on. So maybe it's, hey, what's the number one thing you need to focus on to perform well? Maybe that is the trigger squeeze on their weapon or focusing on the target that they have. It could be even their body position internally. So there's a lot of different ways I use it when I'm running. Most important thing in a long run for me, I tend to carry a lot of tension in these old shoulders.

So my cue for what's important now is to relax my shoulders. If I'm playing pickleball, it's just keep your eye on the ball. Or it might be follow through on the serve. If I'm golfing, I've made videos about golf. If you've golfed, you know, there's so many things to focus on. You can get overwhelmed really easily. So it might be focus on the follow through, keep the, the lead arm straight. Or maybe it's 50, 50 grip, something that I use. So it's not 100% being super tight, 0% being really loose where I'm not holding on the club.

That makes sense. 50, 50 is like, that's the amount of pressure I want to grip the club. So there's different ways. But you can also be talking to your kids, talking to your friends, it's, hey, most important thing right now is just listen. So that's my win. That's my what's important now? Listen. Whatever task you're doing, whatever. Whatever performance you're doing, I could go on and on and on, as you can see with examples, but it's a really simple idea of what's the number one thing. I need to focus on what's important now and let me just choose it and go there so I don't get overwhelmed with my attention.

Hope that helps. I'm sure it will if you practice it. So start today. What's something you can apply this strategy of win towards?
