In our conversation today, we are going to fill our gratitude buckets, and the buckets of one other ….
Jean Mitchells with special guest Major. What have you done for you today? Maybe this is it. My invitation today is if you have pen and paper, feel free to pull it out. Jules, you painted your nails and binged a little on Netflix. Just let go.
Jeanine: Here's my invitation on Self care Sunday. What are the things that bring you the most joy in your day and write them out. For me, Jean, if I'm writing down on a piece of paper, I would say Walks with Major. Also what brings me joy is teaching spin classes.
Make a list of the things you're grateful for. When we physically tactilely write things down, it solidifies it in our brain. How often do you hear that somebody didn't invite you to something because they thought you were too busy?
The third list that I'm going to invite you to write down is what are your dreams? We have less than 65 days in this year. Write the list of your dreams. And then what's gonna happen? January is gonna come.
So in a month of November where we are focused on abundance and gratitude, we're also entering into holiday season. Make your list. What are your dreams and your goals? I love you all with all my heart, and I will see you soon.
Hello Cadre family. This is Jean Mitchells with special guest Major. Come here, Major. He's on lookout. He's on lookout. Today I am always excited to be here holding space with everybody. Today we're holding space outside on a beautiful fall day. Literally. Major is taking care of everything. Hello Viera, how are you today? Happy Sunday. Hello Jules. Self Care Sunday, we have arrived. What have you done for you today? Maybe this is it. My invitation as you come on in to our stream, take a deep breath, say hello to Major.
He's commanding some pets. And if you are willing and you're not driving. My invitation to you is to type in the chat. What have you done for you today or this weekend? Have you taken that walk? Have you written that postcard? Who writes postcards anymore? I'm bringing that back. That's a new thing. I'm bringing it back. But today on Self care Sunday, the title is the list. And so my invitation and through our conversation today, I'm gonna bring in. Hello, speak wonder. Your buddy's here. He's on lookout.
My invitation today is if you have pen and paper, feel free to pull it out. If you are on your computer, maybe pull up a note tab, find something that maybe you can start a little list. Jules, you painted your nails and binged a little on Netflix. Nice. I did a little Netflix binge yesterday too. Between taking some classes and it just felt nice. Just let go. And today we got to sleep an extra hour because tis the season to fall back in time. I found that teaching a spin class this morning. Everybody in my class was super groggy.
It was kind of funny because we run so thin and think about the number of days or nights that you don't get enough sleep, the sleep that you need. And then magically you get an extra hour. And our bodies are like, I would like more of that. Our minds are like, yes please. Our emotions are like, ah, an extra hour of calm. Isn't that something lovely. So today our conversation on Self care Sunday is the list. And so my invitation was if you have pen or paper to pull it out, feel free keep looking off to the side to try to see what Major's looking at.
But I'm focused. I'm here. So here's my invitation on Self care Sunday, if you're willing, I'd love for you to type down or write down what are a few things on your list that bring you the most joy. And you can insert happy, you can insert calm. What are the things that bring you the most calm in your day and write them out, like physically write them out so you can see on paper the things that help you reset. For me, Jean, if I'm writing down on a piece of paper, I would say Walks with Major. The amount of time that I find a walking meditation to be super gratifying is significant to the point where I crave it, especially in moments where I feel really anxious.
Also, I'm really sorry if there's a lot of wind in the background, let me know. I'm trying to hide in a corner to block it. So on my list of bringing joy or finding that calm is a walking meditation. So when I travel, I'll even try to find space to get outside and do that. Even when I travel, it just helps me to reset, it helps me to think, it helps me to just let some ideas go. But also what brings me joy is teaching spin classes. I love it so much. I love picking out the songs. I love challenging everybody.
I love sweaty high fives after class. So it's on my list. It also brings me joy and satisfaction when I read a new book and I pay it forward to somebody. I love sharing books. I love having that conversation with people about what I just read and and who might really like it. So I like finding that uniqueness about it. So making that list. Now the second list that my invitation to you would be on Self Care Sunday. What are you grateful for? What are you grateful for in this moment? And if you want to type some of that in the chat, feel free to type it in the chat.
I'm grateful for Major's need to also hold my hand while I pet him. He's on my list a lot, but I'm grateful for the strength of my body to be able to move. I am grateful for a community of people that appreciate art. I say that because I have different groups of people that we're all getting together and we're going to have a date night and it's going to be going to see a performance called Primary Trust at the Guthrie here in November. An individual who rides at our studio just for this month is the lead actor.
And I am grateful for the fact that I've been able to spend time with them. So I live close to the Guthrie and after they take my classes, they take the bus there and then after class I drive them back to where they're staying. And I get to have the gift of time with this individual learning about their craft, learning about who they are. So anytime that people can give the gift of time, I'm sorry So blessed with that. Because how often do you hear. I mean, I hear this a lot, but how often do you hear that somebody didn't invite you to something because they thought you were too busy?
Now, let's be clear. We're all super busy. We might have kids, we might have dogs, we might have parents that we care take for, or family members we care take for. Jobs, hobbies. We are really great at being human and filling our time. But I'll tell you what, if you're like me, I will drop everything I can when someone reaches out with an invitation to go to coffee or go for a walk or go to a movie or a play. I'll literally readjust my schedule when possible. Possible if someone reaches out and asks me to do something.
Because in those moments, it's a moment of connection, which means that we're both getting out of our busy lives to make a human connection. So I am grateful every time somebody reaches out to say, hey, do you want to do this thing? Let's make it happen. So, like Jules, when you come to Minneapolis and you say, hey, do you want to meet at Fragment for coffee? Yes. Yes, I do. So make the list. Why am I asking you to actually write it down on paper? Here's why. We can think about all the things we're grateful for.
That's amazing. But when we actually pick up a piece of pen and paper and we physically tactilely write things down, it solidifies it in our brain. So our brain remembers the effort that our hand took to pick up the pen and to write the words. It remembers the script that we use. It visualizes the piece of paper that we're writing it on. But it grounds it into our core, into our center, into our heart. So using that piece of paper, and I'm even saying, don't even use the iPad with the pen. If in doubt, if you don't have anything else accessible to you, absolutely write it in a note on your phone and type it.
But there's a lot of science around what happens when we physically write and how it connects to our brain and connects into our heart, into our attention space. So make the list. Now, the third list that I'm going to invite you to write down is what are your dreams? The wind just literally picked up, which means this is the right topic. The leaves are flying everywhere. It's so beautiful. I'll show you. Write the list of your dreams. Now, some people who are really logical might say, I don't dream great.
What are your. What are your goals? What are your inspirations? We have less than 65 days in this year. Somewhere around fast math 58, less than 60. So 60 days left in this year. And then what's gonna happen? January is gonna come, when we're gonna set new resolutions or new themes or insert whatever. But what if you practice at the beginning of the month making that list of dreams, of goals, and maybe you create some action plans around it, maybe you don't. Maybe you simply just write it out and write down what it means to you, what this goal, if it comes true, what it means to you, write it out.
Because inevitably, when I look back on all of my lists, things in all of my notebooks that I have because I write a lot, I find those and then I remember them, and then I can assess, did I do something to make it move forward? Did it happen? Because I manifested it. But writing out our dreams puts them into the forefront of our mind, puts them right up here so that we remember them. So in our busy days, when we're doing all of the tasks, maybe we do a couple of tasks that help our dreams come to life.
One of my girlfriends just announced that she's launching this new thing called Spark Life because she loves sparklers. She's been thinking about this idea and percolating on it and doing some little mini toe in the water things for three years. Hard launch. It's not about the fact that it took her three years to hard launch, it's the fact that she took the time to write down her dream and let it percolate, massage it, tweak it, so that it became something meaningful. So write them down. So your three things, what is bringing you joy right now?
What are you grateful for right now? Tomorrow that list could be different. What are your dreams and your goals? So in a month of November where we are focused on abundance and gratitude, we're also entering into holiday season. And holiday season, quite honestly, is not easy for everybody. Honestly, it's not easy for me. So when we come back to those things, our joys, our gratitudes, our dreams, we can be grounded with purpose and move forward together. But even more fun, you can go to coffee with that friend and you can ask them what's on their list and then you can have a conversation because maybe together you can help spark it, to help it come to life.
