Poll: Where do you feel safest expressing yourself — online, at work, or with close friends?
Alex opens the livestream, names the series Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays, and introduces the episode question about where people feel safest expressing themselves as part of a broader month-long focus on safety and vulnerability.
Alex explains his personal preference for face-to-face connection and how video preserves more cues than text or email, then outlines common offline places (gym, college, grocery store) where people naturally form connections.
Alex describes how digital interactions helped him build professional connections—sharing the story of a podcast guest leading to a Cadre contributor role—and highlights that online channels can create meaningful opportunities.
Alex emphasizes the need for both online and offline connection, recounts mid-year feedback about improving active listening, and reflects on challenges like anticipating responses and steps he's taking to improve.
Alex invites comments about how viewers prefer to connect, mentions small livestream moments (water, shirt) and talks about everyday life details like buying protein powder and an upcoming trip to Japan.
Alex briefly explains a recent break due to a family health issue, thanks the audience for their time, promises to schedule future lives, and signs off with promotion for upcoming Sunday Spark Sessions and his social handles.
30 PM Pacific. This is Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays. This is your host, Alex from Mindset. And tonight is all about where do you feel safest expressing yourself? Is it online? Is it with your friends? Is it in person? Offline? Let's dive right into it. So a big part of our theme for the month of September, which we're coming, September is flying by. is talking about safety, talking about authenticity, vulnerability, and a big part of that, gotcha I sphere, is where we feel most comfortable expressing ourselves.
For myself, I definitely feel the most comfortable in person because I can really establish that connection with someone face to face. through text messaging through phone calls through e-mail still to me next best thing to in-person face-to-face connection would be this video right you can still see my face you can see my kind of mannerisms where you know where my head's at pretty good but of course you still want to be in person because that is the best way to connect in my opinion Because a lot can get lost in translation via text, e-mail, phone calls, et cetera, et cetera.
So I think a big part of, yeah, this month is about, yeah, teaching people how, and I'm asking all of you, where do you feel most comfortable connecting? Is it offline, in a coffee shop, in a bookshop, at the gym? That's kind of where I like got super social growing up. When I was in college or university, I would go to the gym and I made a ton of connections there, like really good connections. Or then at school, right? In college or university, when you're going to college or university, you're making good connections in your classes and stuff like that.
And so it's a great way, you know, utilizing those mediums, college, university, the gym, grocery store to make those connections and to, yeah, like connect with people in that way. And then online, yes, you can definitely make some awesome connections online. This is how I built this connection. I got this connection with CADRE to become a contributor 'cause I had a podcast guest on, Dr. Therese Johnson on my show. And then she said, you'd be great at this. You'd be an awesome addition to the CadreAsphere contributor team.
And I looked into it further and I was like looking into the brand. And then I talked to the CEO, Luke Wendlett, and then I had him on the show and just incredible opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself and to, yeah, like be there and show up in this way. and help all of you build a mental mind, body, and soul. So there's lots of different ways you can connect with people, right? And I know a big part of the world right now is digital and online, but we still need to have both mediums offline and online to be able to connect with one another and establish strong connections, strong relationships, strong friendships over time because and one thing I actually had my mid year review at work and one thing that they mentioned is, Alex, you're doing really well, but you need to work on your active listening skills.
They didn't say it like that harshly, but they said that's an area where we feel once you can find ways to because I always ask, you know, is there any books I can read or podcasts or audiobooks I can listen to to make improvements? Because I'm obsessed with improvement. I always want to improve. And then they said, you need to work on your active listening skills, which I know I'm I'm I'm guilty of I have I do have a harder time with active listening because I'm always when I'm listening to someone, I'm always like, I'm always thinking of how I'm gonna respond.
And that's difficult to listen to what they're truly saying if I'm already thinking about how I want to, how I'm, oh, how do I need to respond? So that's difficult for me 'cause when someone says something to me and it's almost like I, again, I'm anticipating the question and then how to answer, but that anticipation of trying to figure out how to respond is taking away from my listening time of that delay, right? Like I need to just spend extra time with the listening, which is, and I know there's other people out there too that struggle with this.
It is not easy, but I did find some audio books and podcasts that I can listen in on, take some notes on to help develop my active listening skills better. So, and that goes hand in hand with developing connections, right, where you're, you know, certain people are really good listeners. And I think a big part of it is like nerves, right? When you're dealing with maybe certain clients or certain people that could be more aggressive and that plays a role in how much I absorb on what people I interact with too.
And that goes for other people I bet as well. It's not easy to be an active listener. It's a developing your own awareness on how to do that and And it's definitely, definitely something I've been working on, but yeah, it feels good. This is like therapeutic talking about it, but what, going back to you, Codre Sphere, what are some ways that you like to connect online or offline? Let me know in the comments. I know no one's tuned into the live yet, but I'm just having a little drink of water here.
But yeah, I wanted to see what you guys thought on how you connect. Oh yeah, I got this funky shirt. I just got some more protein powder 'cause me and my wife ran out 'cause I always make us protein smoothies every day for like our breakfast. And then I, 'cause we ran out of Protein powder and creatine. I'm really low on creatine, so I got both. So then, 'cause I spent a little bit more, so they gave me a free t-shirt and then I got some samplers like the greens, like the veggie greens to help boost that immunity, right?
'Cause me and my wife were going to Japan end of October. So it's gonna be awesome. It's already coming up. We're like 30 days out already. Yeah, 29 days or 28 days out. So super stoked, super excited. So, but, but yeah, I'll give, uh, I'll give it a few more minutes here and to see if anyone chimes in and to, yeah, help, help this live be more collaborative because I don't want to feel like I'm rambling. I know I sometimes ramble sometimes because, you know, I've got so many thoughts, but, um, I want this to be each live to be as impactful as I can make it for you guys.
And, and I know I missed a few, not too long ago there, but that was due to a personal matter that I had to attend to with the health of one of my family members, my father-in-law, because he's got cancer, so I had to be there for him over the last little bit, me and my wife. So yeah, but I'm happy to be back and making content and yeah. I'm just going to see if anyone else chimes in I'll keep this live super short like probably another minute or so Darn. I gotta, I definitely gotta do another like reminder in my YouTube channel and TikTok, like when I go live on Cadre again, I was doing that for a bit and I need to do that again.
So it doesn't, unfortunately no one tuned into this live, but I will let you guys know when the next ones are. And again, I'll schedule all that content in advance. So thank you all for tuning in Cadre Sphere. Really appreciate your time, your energy. sep on my TikTok channel. m. Pacific.
